I Require New Mascara- Got Any Good Ones?
Alrighty- I'm almost out of mascara! Terror, I know- I use Almay something or other- I bought a two pack of it a while back and can't remember the type. Soooo what kinds of mascara do you guys like? I've got long eyelashes naturally and they curl pretty well with an eyelash curler, so Lash Archetect would probably make me look more Tammy Faye than I'd like. I bought some Sally Hansen mascara with the plumping primer one one end and the black stuff on the other, and it makes my eyelashes clump like no tommorow- cute when going for the porn star look, not so much for everyday. Please Help a poor mascara deprived girl out!

1. I'd suggest staying away from great lash. It's the darling of the beauty editors ... and I can't see why other than getting paid to say it. 2. What I use currently and LOVE, for a cheap d/s mascara - Maybelline Volum' Express (using the wp formula). This is what I settled on when I was researching d/s wp mascaras. for higher-end, Dior, YSL, Lancome, and Shu Uemura get raves. and for any makeup rec Q, I always suggest the product reviews @ makeupalley.com ![]() (ps) mal does indeed know everything ![]()

If you've got the cash to throw around, Lancome's Defencils cannot be beat.
But Maybelline and L'Oreal also make really great mascaras. I just got Maybelline's new longwear Unstoppable mascara and I like it--looks natural, lengthens, and stays put, unlike Great Lash (I have never understood why that mascara is so highly recommended--it gives you major raccoon eyes). Those are my recommendations. ![]()

I HATE Great Lash, it always smudges and flakes. I have no idea why it is so popular.
I use Jane mascara. It's cheap, doesn't flake, and curls my lashes just a little bit. I've tried several kinds of more expensive stuff, and I still stick with Jane.

I really like Neutrogena Weightless Volume mascara. It's hypo-allergenic, smudgeproof, waterproof, and really easy to remove at night without tearing out your eyelashes. I bought in a pinch when I couldn't get my Clinique mascara right away and I've been using it ever since.

My drugstore favorites are Maybelline Full n' Soft (natural) and Cover Girl Fantastic Lash (for more of a dramatic look.)
For higher end I've heard good things about YSL Faux Cils and Christian Dior DiorShow (dramatic),and Lancome Definicils (natural). |

Has anyone else used the Loreal Beauty Tubes mascara? I have and for mascara itself its awesome.....but not something you want to be wearing if you're going to be getting your head wet (ie taking a shower with a S/O) the "tubes" come off very easily and I end up with them all over my body while Im taking a shower lol I think it could but a little damper on intimate activities because your S/O would irrupt in a fit of laughter.
Dave saw me covered in them once and giggled all day just as a note....I do not use makeup remover, I prefer to just wash it all off in the shower

In the last few years I've tried other brands of mascaras on the market. But I always go back to L'oreal Voluminous. I love it so much. It works the best with my eyelashes, and gives the perfect pump of volume. It doesn't clump, and is lightweight too. All bonuses.
That beauty tubes mascara sounds interesting Shani. I think I'll give a try next. ![]() I'm currently using Clinique's Volume mascara...I forget the name. but its the highly praised volume defining one. I'm not keen on it. |

I am surprised that no one has mentioned the Maybelline "Define a lash" lengthening mascara!
I absolutely swear by it and I have really sparse and short lashes. What I also love to do is keep my mascara and eyelash curler in my car. I find that my mascara works best when the mascara is warm and the brush is fairly clean. I have used almost all the mascaras on the market and that is my favourite right now. |

I LOVE YSL! It goes on nice and smooth. Diorshow is good, too. Right now I've been trying out Big Fatty Mascara by Urban Decay and it's alright. Nothing "OOOOOHH AHHHHHH" about it, but it works like any other mascara. Estee Lauder was pretty good when I tried it.
I only buy higher-end makeup because I'm such a makeup snob.. but I feel like if I have to pay an extra 20 bucks for a product.. it should work better! Right?! |

High-end cosmetics often have the same ingredients as lower-end cosmetics. You're just paying more for a brand in many cases. For instance, Lancome makes L'Oreal. Most of their cosmetics are relatively similar, just with different packaging. It used to be that Lancome still had better mascara than L'Oreal, but these days I'm not so sure. L'Oreal, because of its wider appeal to consumers, has come out with some really good products in the last couple years in a way that Lancome has not. Check out Paula Begoun's Don't Go to the Cosmetics Counter Without Me!. It's a good guide for buying makeup intelligently so you don't waste your money on expensive products that have a cheaper alternative. I too used to waste my money on expensive cosmetics, and then I discovered that I could buy pretty much the same thing for much less. For instance, BeneFit makes a light pink powder that they sell for evening out skin tone. Rimmel sells a similar shade of light pink powder as part of their eyeshadow line. That's a $12 savings. Additionally, it's a huge waste to buy super-expensive mascara unless you really do have the cash to throw around, because you should be replacing it every four months. You really don't want to know what starts to grow in there after a while.

I read Paula's book earlier this year. Very insightful. I compiled my own list from her list, of possible products to buy that I need. Its so nice to have the useful products without guessing which is best. |

I switched from the Almay stuff to Neutrogena healthy volume. My lashes don't get all clumpy or fall out like they used to. It's made with olive oil and doesn't irritate my allergies like some of the other stuff. Since it's about the only makeup I can wear, I'm glad I found it.

I use mascara a lot.. anyday I'm gonna walk out of the house. And, I usually have helluva lot of coupons/deals for high-end makeup.. and those make them just as affordable as cheaper ones.. sometimes. Sometimes I just like to try more expensive brands just to see if they work better.
YSL is nice and gives me a natural look no cheaper brand can give me. I like Urban Decay's Big Fatty Mascara's brush.. but the formula is like any normal mascara.. so you're pretty much going to pay more just for a nicer brush. But, I got it for sale. Diorshow is pretty nice. But, I've only bought it once before because it came cheaper with the purchase of a lipgloss. (I'm a lipgloss fanatic, too.) Estee Lauder is really nice, too. The brush seems simple, but doesn't clump up my lashes like I thought it would. Napoleon Perdis is the BEST I've tried so far. Also, on the more expensive. Good thing I got it on sale on HSN. woohoo! I've tried cheaper brands, but most of the ones I've tried have always seemed clumpy to me. Covergirl and Maybelline are the worst I've tried. L'Oreal is decent.. Revlon, too. Almay is alright, but the formula dries out pretty fast. I heard Napoleon Perdis has a makeup collection at Target.. so I'm definitely going to try their mascara out. I'm a product whore.. and I'm really searching for the PERFECT mascara. Good brush, good formula, doesn't clump, doesn't crackle and end up on your cheek, etc. |
