Help! My underwear!
Ok,title not withstanding I do actually have a problem. I've been on the pill (ortho tricyclen) for almost two years now. For the last year or so I've noticed that the fabric in the crotch of my underwear has started to appear brittle, and then to form holes, large holes at which point of course they go in the garbage, it happens to all brands and all fabrics. Any idea what could be causing this? I assume my discharge has become more acidic but has anyone else experienced this?
Thanks Lisa |

Never had anything like that happen to me and I've been on the pill for two years. Have you been to the gyno about this?

No I havn't, I've been in university away from my doctor, and have spent my summers away as well, I go back for a pap every march or so but as I recall it wasn't happening then. The doctor on campus is the father of a friend, not really the person I'd want to ask these types of questions to after having been to his house for dinner several times. <grin>

Hmm... You could just be rather rough on your panties... Try wearing pantiliners and see if your underwear still wears out. It's worth it to rule out one option, and save your panties too! Can't you call your regular gyno? Or speak with a nurse at the university health center?

It seems to be over a long term that it happens, and I can't take pantiliners for much more than a few days, they make me feel damp and uncomfortable all day. I'll try calling my doctor, she's hard to get a hold of though. The fabric around the holes is so brittle that it falls apart when you touch it, I don't see how that could happen no matter how rough it was treated, in six months or so.

How strange, my panties have never worn through like that. It does sound like something acidic is making those holes...I'd go to the doctor and get some advice.

How long have you been at campus?? Would this have possibly started sometime after you started school? Since this has been happening for a year yet you've been on the pill for 2 years I would suspect that a change in diet or habits could be partly responsible.
Also, I have to ask, how soon after wearing your clothes do you wash them?? In college I tended to wash all my dirty clothes about once a week simply because I didn't have time to keep up with the washing and drying in the laundry room at school during the week. If you are leaving the clothes soiled for longer than you did previously that could be partly to blame. Try washing and rinsing out your panties as soon as you take them off. It may help clean off the acidic residue so that it doesn't have a chance to harm them. It won't hurt to wash one pair of panties each evening and it easier on the silky fabrics and elastic used in them. They'll last WAY longer no matter what the problem.
