New Book Club? The DaVinci Code

I enjoyed reading everyone's post on "the Virginia Suicides" and am wondering if anyone would like to read "The DaVinci Code" with me? Lebell and I are leaving on our honeymoon tomorrow (yeah!) I should get some reading in during the week -- but imagine it will take two weeks before I'm ready to discuss it. Any takers?

SexyCat 07-15-2004 07:39 PM

I already read the DaVinci Code, but I wouldn't mind discussing it once you finish.

StickODynomite 07-15-2004 10:24 PM

Ditto.

I loved it. It's suspenseful and though provoking.

Read it, then we'll talk... or, I guess type.

Thanks for listening,

anti fishstick 07-16-2004 02:30 PM

sure! saw that my dad had it. i'll definitely take a look :) i'm currently reading the fall by albert camus and also started one hundred years of solitude.. but i've always been a multiple reader.

edit: just on a side note, how does this book club thing actually work? does one person just pick a random book, and we all decide to read and discuss it? or is it more than just random... were there other discussions besides the virgin suicides or was that the first one? sorry.. i haven't been keeping up with the boards well. :o

StickODynomite 07-16-2004 02:43 PM

Ok, im getting my hands on that book for sure. We'll talk in 2wks then.. when i get back.

No one give away any juicy stuff.....I am only on like chapter 13.

aphroditeskiss1 07-16-2004 08:52 PM

I've already read it, but I'd love to discuss it here.

Unga 07-17-2004 05:58 PM

Virgin Suicides was the first book. No official rules were set up as to how books were picked. First come, first served seems to be working. (Basically, if you want to read and discuss the book, great, otherwise wait til next month - when there'll be a different book)

The only suggestion that we had for book selection was that it not be a "best seller" since many folks rely on the library, best sellers are tought to get. (DaVinci Code has been around for so long, I don't think finding it is an issue)

imperfect_anya 07-17-2004 09:05 PM

I've read it and would be more than happy to take part in this discussion! Not to take away from the reading, but has anyone else seen the dvd that is also about the book?

la petite moi 07-18-2004 07:03 AM

My boyfriend read it and loved it. I hear it's like a detective case/mystery book...not exactly the kind of novel I like to read, myself.

It's not really a detective story. It's got romance in there, adventure, intrique, actual research about certain biblical and historical characters.

It reads really fast, everyone I know who has read this, myself included, had it finished in a few hours.

Try it -- you might like it.

We're back from the honeymoon. It was atotally awesome cruise to Alaska but I still managed to read some and only have 100 pages to go. I'll start a discussion thread as soon as I finish unless someone else wants to start us off -- feel free!

(BTW, I don't usually read suspense and I LOVE this book!)

ShaniFaye 07-27-2004 02:33 PM

I wish I had seen this two weeks ago!! I guess I will have to wait for the next book :(

If you liked DVC - Put Angels and Demons on your list of books to read, I thought it was a much better, and I liked DVC.

I am only about a 33% through with the book as I only read a couple of chapters a day.

Unfortunately reading books for school takes up most of my reading time.

It is not too late -- the book is a wuick read and you are welcome to join the discussion when you finish reading it. I think I finished "The Virgin Suicides" several weeks after most simply because I had a hard time finding a copy. So, please join us.:icare:

You are not the first person I've heard that from -- consider it done and thanks!

meh..just seeing this thread too (been busy moving for 1+ weeks)..

Perhaps I can find time to participate, I've already read the book a few months ago, and (if I can find where it's packed) wouldn't mind giving it another read (and yes, it is an easy/quick-ish read).

I enjoyed the book (altho, as seems common, I read Angels and Demons after and did like that one much better) but at the same time, it was sort of..lacking something?
Being the analytical type, I would kinda like to pick it apart a bit.

/me subscribes to thread :)

raeanna74 07-28-2004 05:21 PM

I've got the book but haven't had a moment free to sit and read. I may not get around to this for a while. I will come back to the discussion thread though to read it over when I'm done reading.

This is frustrating because I love to read but haven't even been able to read a simple periodical or newspaper much even.

Are we still working on this book?
