antibiotics and birth control?
Ok, i know that antibiotics have a negative affect on birth control pills. Does anyone know anymore information on this?
How long is it not dependable after the antibiotics are finished? Do the antibiotics affect the actual cycle? (like can they cause you to be late) Any information is appreciated, thanks |

your doctor or pharmacist is (obviously) the best source of info...
next would be google... lastly.. from what i recall, it's antibiotics of the tetracycline-ish types, but i could be *totally* wrong.

SiN: my insert from the pharmacy says "certain kinds of antibiotics". annie: if you're on antibiotics USE CONDOMS!! ask your doctor or pharmacist how long antibiotics will interfere w/ your birth control. It sounds like "till you next period" to me, but like Sin said, the doc or pharmacist are the ones who know best.

I agree with the others, talk to your pharmacist or doctor to be sure. But, I have heard that it takes at least one week after stopping an antibiotic prescription before you get back on par body wise. I don't think it affects your cycle as far as being late but I could be wrong on that one. Sorry I don't have more info for you.

My best friend had a 2 yr old and then contacted lymes disease. She was on really heavy doses of antibotics and was sicker and sicker.
Her husband was freaking out.. had to take her to the DR one day demanding to know what was going on with his wife, she was constantly throwing up, tired, could barely move, etc. Turns out it was part of the antibotics AND that she was pregnant. They didn't warn her that it would make BC less effective. This was 6 years ago and ... to boot, she had twins!

I currently use Depo and enjoy not worrying about my cycle at all. After being on depo for a year I'm glad to have a medication I only have to administer 4 times a year... I suck at remember daily pills. Two words for getting my meds.. "MEXICO BABY!"
