Frivolous question:

Has anybody here been to the Beauty Bar in Hollywood or NYC? I'm really excited to go there and get a manicure and martini for my 21st birthday (months from now) and was just wondering if anyone had actually been there.

I wish I could on my 21st birthday, also just a few months from now. But I will be stuck in Iowa.

Ok, I'm 18 years older than you are, so take my review however you want it.

I went, didn't like it. I don't like theme bars, and this place was trying way to hard to be a theme bar. If I want to go to a dive bar, I'll go to the Billymark's West on 9th Avenue, totally unpretentious, great music on the jukebox, great people. Or the Ear Inn on Spring Street. Hogs and Heffers is a hoot, it's got a little too many Wall Streeters and too many tourists who want to recreate stupid movies, but you can't not have a good time, tell them it's your birthday, they will demand your bra, toss it over the rafters and give you free drinks for the night.

The Beauty Bar was smaller than small, it was cramped, I couldn't get out of there fast enough. Just not my thing at all. (then again, i am old enough to be your momma ) It's definitely a theme bar though -- so if you don't mind that type of place, have great time.

They have a beauty bar in San Francisco, and I'm dying to go check it out! A bunch of girlfriends and I wanted to go get our nails done and have martinis for girls' night, but I didn't know it was a dive bar... I don't like dive bars at all, I won't go if it is one.

Umm, I haven't been yet. But if it's supposed to be all about beauty, then I would guess that it wouldn't be too much of a dive. Then again, the one in NY could be just because it's in NY and there isn't a lot of space for the beauty and whatnot. Who knows?

I didn't know there was one in SF - I had only heard of two. Anybody else been to one?

yeah, exactly, that's what I thought too. But I was a bit confused because of maleficant's comments.

I'll be going to the one in San Fran in a couple weeks.

What's the difference between a beauty bar and a dive bar? sorry for the naivity of this question but i really don't know.

And if you're going to get crazy it's going to require the losing of the bra
