Texas Pharmacist Refuses Pill for Rape Victim
Hi ladies,
A thoughtful member suggested via pm that I bring this up in here - Quote:
I'd already seen the thread, but not yet responded, because I've not been able to think of anything constructive to say, beyond just how pissed off I am about it. It is worthy of discussion, and I would like to know what you think about it. I encourage you to post in the original thread.. however, if you find 'Politics' intimidating, as do I sometimes, here is also OK. Somewhere is better than silence. The thread in Politics is here and for the link challenged, the news article. Quote:

This rape victim is being revictimized. Terrible, simply terrible!
|
That is absolutely horrible.
Someone gets raped...and then *their* morals get questioned?! |
hey, anyone used a IUD for emergency contraception? anyone have omre information on how/why it works?
sorry, bit of a threadjack that makes no sense if you didn't know i was pulling info off of planned parenthoood for the politics version *blush* sorry, don't mind me! ps: pharmacist = asshat. he couldn't know WHY she was taking these meds... maybe there's another ofr them, or something. he may have been condemning a patient to die in extreme cases by refusing to distribue medications on personal moral grounds. |
Rape the pharmacist with a broomstick and no lube, and then deny him treatment on moral grounds; see how he likes that.
If the medicine had been illegal to possess or highly addictive, maybe he could have grounds. We're not talking Percocet or Oxycontin or marijuana here. Only a man could come up with a hypothesis as ridiculous as "it's a human being even when it's only 1 cell, and I'll be killing a person if I give her this medicine." |
What the fuck! Does the pharmacist think hes God or something. She should have as much right to it (well even more) than anyone else. Isnt it bad enough that she was raped without having hassle of the pharmacist?
That is awfull! |
i was raped when i was 17...
the hospital that i was taken to happened to be catholic... the ONLY medication they would give me was amoxicillian... this was in an attempt to thwart off any possible std's... but also to ensure that i didn't take anything that would possibly harm a fetus... waiting for my period to come felt like an eternity that i cannot describe... luckily for me, i was not pregnant. women's health issues (physical & emotional) are constantly overlooked, put on the back burner and discounted... this is yet another example... it's a long uphill battle... but i'm not giving up any time soon... *soft smie* |
I can't even think of anything to say. I'm so much in awe right now. I can't imagine being in her place, but I can imagine being close to it....
Cheerios, PM me if you're still interested in emergency contraception. :) |

What an idiot, and I bet nothing will happen to him. He won't get his licence revocked or anything, because in America we live under the will of god. And springrain, I am so sickened of religion sometimes, well all the time. People are such idiots it's amazing. |
Oh I just read the thread in politics and there is a coment on the first page which really angered me. I've always been respectful to everyone here, but I hate it when men have just fantastic ideas of what a woman can do with her body. I am sorry neither this pharmacist (who I asume is a man) nor anyone else has the right to tell a woman what to do in this situation. I would like to see them in a situation like this and see what they decide.
This is why I don't go to tilted politics, there's always some narrow minded person that really agravates me. Sorry about the rant, I'm really mad right now. |

Ok, I think the real issue here is not whether or not she was raped, which is a HORRIBLE AWFUL TRAUMATIZING thing that no woman *ever* should have to live with- been there, know all about it, but the denial of prescribed medical treatment.
I had an incident one time with a broken condom- and I felt it necessary to take the precaution of the morning after pill. What in the WORLD would I have done if the pharmacist had denied my prescription! Truly, this wo/man (as they don't say whether the pharmacist was male or female) took a liberty not available to them, and in doing so removed a liberty- a legal, valid liberty- away from an unfortunate victim. As against frivilous (sp?) lawsuits as I am, I think this one has merit. |
