How many of us are lucky enough...

... to have someone that can braid and do their hair? I cannot braid my own, or it looks like crap, and I was thinking of getting a Barbie so that I could teach my boyfriend how to. I was just wondering how many of us are lucky enough to have a husband/boyfriend/friend/lover/SO/other that can braid and do pretty good hair-do's.

If you do, did you have to train them?

If you did have to train them, do you have any tips on how to train properly?

My bf says he can braid hair. I've never let him. No reason to. Once after a car accident he washed it and put it in a ponytail for me, but... not since then. Maybe tonight I'll ask him to play with it for a while. He knows I love it when people play with my hair :)

I've got short hair, though I love how my lover pets my hair. =)

Unga 01-01-2004 02:10 PM

you should just teach him how.
i once had a friend ask me about it, and he picked up braiding pretty quickly

Unfortunately I don't have anyone to do that for me :( but thinking back, I don't think any of my previous b/f's knew how to!

I can braid my own hair though so it's no big deal to me but it would be pretty cool to have a SO that could do things with it! The best part either way is having someone who plays with my hair...nothing better than having fingers running through it!
;)

I can braid my own hair but it is really fine so I don't do it much. As for my sweetie doing it? Um, I've never thought about it. I'm doubting it. I'll be asking him.

i have two sisters, so i'd never really have to go elsewhere. however, my SO once did my hair in a braid and he did a great job.

Hash_Browns 01-05-2004 09:39 AM

I voted yes...but that was before I properly read the first post...My SO used to brush it before I got it permed...But can't braid for shite... ;) sorry to have not paid enough attention!!

What a question! But anyway...

I had to answer that my hair isn't long enough, I had it cut a few weeks ago and my boyfriend is totally crazy about it! He keeps on saying how 'smashing' I look, but than immediately adding that I also looked good before! (scared of saying something wrong, I guess)

I've never asked him to braid my hair when it was still long, since I never wore my hair like that, I mostly just kept it in a dull pony-tail.
But still, not a hair on my head that doubts my boyfriend's capabilities, so I'm sure he could have handled it nicely!

(better start saving again for long hair, so he can prove me right)

I can't braid my own hair. Well, I guess I can, but it looks horrible. I've never actually asked my bf to braid my hair, but he plays with it all the time. I'm not sure if he can braid it or not, so I'll definitely be sure to ask him.

My sister has always been my hair stylist. Every opportunity I get I have her do something nice with it. She's done my hair for all sorts of occasions and can never go wrong. Who needs a S.O. who can do their hair when they have a sister?

Once I had a boyfriend who worked at a hair salon. He tried doing my hair once and it was a disaster! Nothing like what my sister can do. Since that experience I haven't been too anxious to let a guy touch my hair.

i spent hours as a young child braiding and rebraiding my dolls hair, my friends, hair, my own hair...
i just realized a few years ago that many people don't know how to braid... it surprised me... i guess i always took it for granted... i don't even know how i learned... i think i taught myself, because my mom certainly was not the hair expert in the house...

it's like anything else... practice, practice, practice... but if you have someone who can do it for you and does a good job... more power to you. :)

I can braid my own hair. I can even do fancy braids like french braid or herringbone braids. When I got pregnant though I cut my hair short. It's too short to even get in a ponytail right now so braiding it is out of the question. I live like 5 mi from my mom and she can braid hair so if there's something special I wanted to go to and my hair was long I could get her to do it. Also my hairdresser is only a block away and she's pretty reasonably priced.

Last time I tried braiding my hair my arms got aweful tired but that was the only problem. My hair is very fine and very straight so it doesn't like to stay in a braid real well. That's why I went short.

Hubby has no clue how to do my hair and is scared to death to try. My brother could though and he lives only about 3 blocks away.

There is a really nice Japanese lady who styles and cuts my hair exactly how I want it -- even if it's completely torn out of a magazine, she's able to get it right. I also like the scalp massages when I get my hair washed; she's always making sure that I'm relaxed. It's like a mini-spa treatment when I go in for a haircut. She's on maternal leave now, but I've been trying to grow my hair out anyway. Maybe I will give her a call when she returns and do something about these split ends.

I have an 18-month old that likes putting whatever's on her fingers in my hair, does that count? :D

There are only four things my hair will do: fall straight (even after three days without washing or combing), braid (which I can't do myself very well), pup-tails (only for Halloween or someone with a schoolgirl fetish), or ponytail (the usual).

I hate my hair, and yet several of my friends have said they'd kill for my "problem". Bleh, I guess we all covet something.

actually, I know teo people- my sis-in-law's mother (she used to work at Gene Juarez) and a friend who works a ways from here now. I have only asked them both once to do my hair. I don't want to seem cheap or looking for a deal. But I may just ask one of them soon to colour my hair, cuz I want it to look gooooood!
