bath time??

I just got done taking a long hot bath and talking to my mom on the phone. I was just wondering how unhealthy baths really are for female parts? Does anyone know anything about this because my mom is constantly getting on me about how I should only take showers? Sometimes I take bubble baths (which I can see how it would cause a problem) but I don't see the problem in regular baths. I also always take a shower after my bath because it's just not possible to get clean sitting in a tub of water.

There's nothing wrong with regular baths. If you want to feel safer, just put some epsom salt in or something. It's good for things like sore muscles, cramps, etc... But there's nothing wrong with taking baths.

Nothing wrong with regular baths.....problem comes when u constantly use bubble bath and bath bombs cause they can cause yeast infections.

Thanks. That's what I figured but you know how mothers are when they get something stuck in their head ;) .

Oh wow, I didn't know that. I love all the things that can be learned in the TFP.

Yeah baths are wicked! More relaxing than showers. I agree with Diddagirl though its best not to use strong or highly perfumed bubble bath etc.

baths are good to soak wounds (or genital piercings) when you add sea salt. i was expecting a forum about how much everyone loves to take baths. i loooove baths!

diddagirl 11-17-2003 12:25 PM

Yes, I too love baths...very relaxing

I had to take only baths for 19 years, as our house is super old and has a cast iron claw foot tub. Once I moved out, I only had a shower, and now I miss baths greatly. I never in my life thought I would say that, but I do.

Baths are the best way to relax your muslces after a nice day of working out. Take a bath in the evening and you're bound to have fewer muslce aches later on. Hot showers are nice too but not as effective.

Unfortunately I have never lived in an area where drought wasn't an issue so I have never been able to feel un-guilty about taking a nice full bath.

onodrim 11-18-2003 06:59 AM

Baths are great! I just love to sit and relax in a tub full of hot water, so relaxing and peaceful. :) Unfortunately I haven't been able to take one in a long time because I'm stuck in the dorms. :( But like others have mentioned, I never knew that about bubble bath, so thanks for the info!

gummby 11-18-2003 08:32 AM

i don't know what i would do in the winter without a bath tub. there is no better way to get that deep down cold away than to hop into a nice hot bath tub for an hour....mmm....so relaxing...now i want a bath. maybe i shall do that.

Eowyn_Vala 11-18-2003 10:07 AM

I miss baths greatly. I live in the dorms and almost every girl admits to missing baths if you ask! It is just a great way to relax.

There is nothing greater than a Big bath tub...I have this small one now...and it sucks..not even worth it...can't wait for my new house...HUGE bath tub...

bernadette 11-21-2003 04:54 PM

i don't have the patience for baths anymore.
i hop in the shower, get cleaned up & then pull myself together. that all takes more time than i'd prefer.

I hate taking a bath if I haven't recently cleaned the bathtub. Baths with bubble bath or smelly salts in can cause feminine problems. I even had an aunt who was slightly allergic to the chemicals that Avon used in their bubble baths. She ended up with a bad reaction mostly on her feminine/more sensitive areas. Epsom salts can be great for you. The salts are a good sitz (sp?) bath for infections down there or for soothing with a minor urinary infection. They are good for sore muscles too. Also Chamomile tea is much less harmless with a mild pleasant oder and supposely good for your hair. Sometimes when I have very dry skin I will poor some baby oil or mineral oil in right before I get out. I get a nice coating of oil on my skin without getting all messy and the smell is nice too. But when I do that I don't end up sitting it it for very long. I don't usually have the time for baths anymore though. Only once in a blue moon.

For 19 years all I had was a tub. Now I have both and I do both. I love the occasional long hot soak with candle light and music. It is a great form of relaxing for me. :)

As far as genital problems, bladder infections and yeast infections can occure from EITHER bathing or showering. The problem isn't bathing, it is soap and other means of cleaning that get in the vaginal area and doesn't get rinsed away thoroughly. And if it gets in the urethra, it travels to the bladder and results in a wicked UTI and/or bladder infection. :(

My mother (a stroke victim) requires help to get clean and I am forever having to remind my Papa the importance of rinsing her well. She likes it best when I shower her for that very reason. I get the whole girl thing. :)

I love baths, I just pour in regular table salt to soak out the muscles. But my bath is TINY and I hate i t, but I still use it. If I had a bigger one, I"d use it more.

mydragonfido 11-25-2003 03:00 PM

Occasionally when I am sore I enjoy a bath. I am a shower person for the most part. I find the fewer baths the fewer infections.

This is the absolute truth - it's not how you wash it but what you wash it with! :D

I was at walmart the other day and found a really good bubble bath. It's Johnson and Johnson baby bath hypoallergenic. This is the only kind that I found that doesn't have a warning on the back saying it could cause UTI's.

SexyCat 12-04-2003 08:32 PM

Baths are my favorite, they are so relaxing and I like to read in the tub :)

I lived in dorms last year and definately felt your pain.
However, now I'm out in an apartment, I take 'em all I want! (ie daily)
