Strange Question
So, I have this yeast infection-like discharge, but no other yeast-infection like symptoms. I told my older sister about this, and she asked if there was any possibility of me being pregnant.
Is this a symptom of pregnancy? Or can you have a yeast infection without the itching and burning? |

Yeast infection like discharge? what exactly does it look like? OK I'm going to get technical here so don't get grossed out. If the discharge is milky white it could be more than one thing. Yeast infection, Bacterial Vaginosis (which is more common than yeast and not contracted only through sex), or just simply ovulating or a change in hormones. If is is thick and has a cottage cheese consistancy it is more likely an infection and if it has any icky odor like sharp cheese or fishy it's likely it's bacterial vaginosis.
Any of these do need to be dealt with by a Dr for many reasons. If you treat for yeast then you just kill off the bad yeast and the good yeast and the BV will grow to be so bad that it can infect your reproductive organs. If you do the opposite (which by the way cannot be done without prescription) than you can give the yeast plenty of advantage to grow. Often these two infections will coincide. Bacterial Vaginosis can simply be caused by a change in hormones and in the PH balance in the vagina. It is more common than Yeast infection. I deal with it frequently and got an ongoing prescription that I can self diagnose and treat myself with it since I have a lot of hormone problems and am more suceptable to it. It is common to not have any symptoms other than a discharge with it but if you start to notice any irritation it can get really bad. I got to the point once that while I was waiting for the medication to take effect I ended up resorting to icing my genitals to take down the inflamation. PAIN. It can result in an abnormal Pap smear and even once it's cleared up can still cause the same simply because it does damage some cells particularly on the cervix. It can also cause cervical cancer if you allow it to go on. I cannot nor should I tell you what is going on but I wanted you to be aware of the possibilities. I know the first time the Dr told me I had BV I freaked. I thought it was some unknown STD but come to find out it's so very common according to what she said and I've read. It was easily treated and once we can get my hormones on an even keel she believes my problem should go away. No matter what you do, even if this is a hormone thing and you just have odd fluids it sure would be a good idea to get yourself to your Dr. The sooner you go the better because should this turn nasty and get irritated then you'll have to deal with that longer while they find out the test results. Get a jump on it and you shouldn't have a problem. Good luck

Raeanna seems much more educated than I am on the subject, but I've had similar problems. About 2 years ago, I had a bit of discharge (just a little, and no icky odor). My main problem was it ITCHED. Seriously itched. I figured it was a yeast infection, and I treated for a yeast infection - after which it got better but then came back. I was about ready to call the doctor, then I got the cottage cheese thing - which sent me to the drugstore at 11:30 at night. Treated again, and it finally went away.
My other discharge experience has been while ovulating - it's heavy enough to require a pantyliner. However, it's been more watery than thick and milky. I don't know if that will help much, but maybe it will help clarify your symptoms. I'll echo the other two ladies and suggest you see your doctor to make sure you're okay. Best of luck to you! |
