Cultural traditions of mothers and mother-to-be?
I am trying to find out more about the French culture, specifically the cultural norms of Labor and Delivery and Post Partum.
Where was your baby born (at home, in a hospital)? Was your significant other or anyone else present during birth? What measures were taken to relieve pain? Was it important to endure pain silently or could you make noise? Did you follow any traditions to make sure you had a safe labor and delivery? Did you do anything special with the placenta or the umbilical cord? Did you want a girl or a boy? How long was your recovery period? Were you expected to rest in bed for a period of time while others cared for you and the baby? If so, how long? Any restrictions related to the environment, personal hygiene, or diet after you gave birth? Any traditions related to the items above? How many children do you think make up an ideal family? Who helped you after you gave birth? Who did you ask if you had questions? Who named the baby? Does the name have a special meaning? Thanks so much!! |
