Shaving down there

My boyfriend loves it when I shave down there, but of course, it itches like crazy when it grows back. I wouldn't mind shaving every day or every other to keep it up, though. What are some tips to keep it from hurting/itching/infecting? I've read that using a scrub with salicylic acid can help.

Thanks!

All i can say is I keep it trimed down there! My hubby likes it that way and most of all i do too! It does itch for me if I decide to let it grow back a lot but I've found that as long as shave just about every day and shave down that it doesn't bother me at all. Like I said shave it down, because with me I notices when if i was to shave up that it does leave irratation bumps. But yeah I just every day or two shave it even though you don't really see anything growing back yet. But you know what works with me doesn't mean it works for everybody I guess!

it's worth the mantinence, imo.

just dont go longer than like 2 days or so, should not itch.

put on some good rich lotion after shaving and then again several hours later.

if the itch gets real bad, just use a topical hydrocortisone.

and, it will all get better/easier the more you get used to it.

Shaving

I've never shaved completely down there, although I keep it pretty trim. My husband would love for me to shave completely, but like others, I was always concerned with the itch and bumps. Thanks for the advice ladies. I may try to surprise him one day

Can I share with you THE BEST thing I found for shaving down there????? INTUITION BY SCHICK! It has a skin conditioning bar on it that is awesome. I have tried everything and this has been by far the best ever. Kinda pricey but well worth it. Oh yeah works great on legs and underarms as well.

Actually, the Intuition razor is what I used this time because I read a review that mentioned that

I'll keep it up this time, I think - I used antibacterial soap, and an antibacterial foam afterwards and no itching, really. I'll keep the hydrocortisone cream on hand too, thanks. My boyfriend is really excited about this.

I don't know if I could have the guts to go for a wax, though!

Yeah, I think I would get one side done with waxing and not the rest--lol. I'll keep in mind though. I will definitely try the intuition razor.

I've been shaving down there for many years now. I found the more I shaved and kept it trim, the less itching I have. Now it never bothers me and all I use is soap and sometimes foam and a razor. I keep a nice strip and on occasion will shave the whole thing bald

i have shaved comepletely for years!! For me i hav efound it to be healthier! but my big beauty secret is conditioner! It keeps my skin moisterized, my pubic hair soft an WAY easier to shave plus it keeps down the after shave bumps! On top of that it has a pleasant scent!!lol

That's an interesting idea, I'll have to try that tonight.

Here's a question - it was itchy as all hell last night and was red and bumpy. Is it still ok to shave then or should I wait until the inflammation goes down?

My bf has been talking to me about shaving. I'm going to give it a try and appreciate the great advice! I do think, however, that I will give him the privilage of shaving me the first time.

sexymama: I dunno about your boyfriends shaving abilities, but mine and I realized very quick that everyone should take care of their own nether regions. It's hard for him to get the feel for the amount of pressure he can put onto the razor and not cut me, and i'm not goin' NEAR something so floppy as a ball-sack, tryin' to shave it!! You may wanna give it a shot on your own first, and let him "inspect" and do a bit of touch up... i've found that takes care of that nooks n' crannies I always miss the first time.

...oh, and SHAVING CREAM! I'm using men's right now, and it works just as well, but let me tell you, it's 10x better'n a soap and water shave (thanks for that tidbit Azh!) and stick with it. it itches like the blazes the next day, but if you keep with it it itches less. get some nice lotion, and rub it in afterwards, and it should help.

Yeah, I definitely wouldn't let my bf try it again...he tried it when we first started dating, and it was impossible! He didn't want to hurt me, but used no pressure at all, and didn't really get too far. I agree with cheerios on the nooks and crannies part, have him try that

i've found personally that most men's shavecream is too heavily scented ...

best cream imo, and all i'll use on my genitals, is Aveeno shave gel. good shit, it is.

what a great forum.
i've shaved once or twice and always found it to get really itchy and bumpy. i may try the keeping it up thing although i'm a bit nervous. i don't know if i'd end up getting lazy and then paying the itchy, bumpy, price.
as for shaving creams, even for legs and stuff, i find it's always best to use anything made for sensitive skin. it's not scented and it doesn't have anything in it that you don't need.
i'm skeptical as to how the intuition really works, cause i was always under the impression that you're supposed to let your shaving cream sink in a little to moisturize skin before shaving, and i don't see how the moisturizers on this razor would have a chance to do that.
i've always just used a venus with gilette sensitive skin shaving cream , followed by lubriderm sensitive skin lotion (not too thick or oily, light but mosturizing). but i haven't been good with upkeep, so i can really only say that it was nice for the first day or so.

I tried the brazilian wax. I think it is great as the initial getting all the hair off. But it is kinda pricey and, for me at least, it grew back quicker than I expected. It didn't hurt as much as I thought it would, but be prepared for tenderness for at least the first two days.

I would say the best thing to do is just keep it up! The more you shave it the easier and more comfortable it gets. The sex gets better too! My man loves it almost bare.

I did shave before flying out and am currently at my bf's home. Wow, what a turn on! Glad I brought my razor as I definitely needed a touch up after two days. I'm glad to read that it gets easier as this is a "whole new thing" for me.

I've had this bookmarked for a long time, mainly because I'm a fan of Abby Gennet's photography (of Prom Mom fame). I haven't tried it yet myself -- mainly because I generally don't have a lot of hair on my body, so I've never had to shave in my life. Anyway, here are some more tips on de-bushing:

I also shave "down there" and what I have found is after shaving I use either baby lotion or baby oil,and you will find that it will stop the itching.

I shaved myself completely for the first time this week. I didn't find that it itched that much. My problem is I would like to keep it smooth but its almost painful to shave the next day. Like the razor is ripping at the stubble. I am wondering if i am going to have to shave every 4 days or something.
Does anyone have any tips?

I usually leave a small strip in the middle, but do sometimes shave the whole thing. The best shave gel for this is Aveeno, good stuff. Noxema makes small razors that are good for going way down there. I always put a small amount of neosprion on after I shave to help any irratation. But you do still get ingrown hairs, but I make sure to pluck them right away with tweezers if you can stand it, helps a lot.

I found that shaving with lotion is by far the way to go, unless you are doing a permanent thing. I had some laser work done and wow! did that hurt...but it's permanent! They also have out a product called BIKINI ZONE and that helps a lot when applied a couple of times after the shave...reduces redness and irritation...

I've found, like a lot of other ladies here, that it's best to mostruize right after. I use Jergen's naturally smooth, and it does a wonderful job of slowing the hair growth and making the hair fiiner when it does grow back. Make sure that you're razor is sharp for each use, and try shaving in a downward direction. It may not be the "closest" shave, but you won't have as much irritation or ingrown hairs. (This is also really good if you shave every day).

are you shaving with or against the direction of the hair growth?
(hint - the proper way is *with*...less painful and avoids ingrowns)

Ok.. I just shaved everything for the first time. I was planning on going to bed after my shower but I'm wide awake now! I guess this is what I get for staying up too late.

Oh yeah, and I must have picked the wrong lotion cause it burnt worse than putting deodorant on after just shaving! Ouch!

First I was shaving upwards, the way i shave my legs, but that hurt. So I tried shaving down, but that doesn't seem to really get at the stubble. Side to side seemed to work the best, but its still hard to get a really close shave every day, without it being painful for me.

I left it for 5 days, then shaved, and it was fine. However, I would like to keep it up more regularly.

Hmm, some good advice here!
I need to try some of this!

I also get the itching, and because I have dark hair it shows straight away when it does start to grow back. Also I hate the feeling of stubble!

The biggest problem I have though, is that it hurts when I shave. Like it's nicking me, even though it's not.

So I tried it for a week and it hurt every time i shaved it. Then I let it grow for about 5 days and then tried it again. It didn't hurt at all this time. So my advice is to stick to it for a few days then quit for a few and try it again. I bought some cocoa butter and it feels good and smells nice. My bf is loving it!

I agree the more often you shave the easier it is. I use an electric beard trimmer most of the time, because razors kill me, and it works good, it gets fairly close and no irritating itchy bumps.
