Would you do Nude Photography?
My friend is an aspiring photographer, and she just got a new camera. She's asked me to pose nude for her. I'm not sure what to say. My gut reaction says no, but then I think, well why not? Its just a body, many people have seen me naked already and I'm fairly comfortable with my body, no it's not perfect but maybe that's the point you know?
So I'm asking you all, what would you do, if you were me? |

if I knew the photographer and felt comfortable with her, then yes, I would do it. it can be very...empowering, in a way. and fun.

Yes...the human body is a beautiful photographic subject...and not just for porn. I feel comfortable with someone I know, like Lucifer; he's taken several nude photos of me, and I've taken some of myself.
As long as you know what your friend is going to do with the photos, and you approve, then go for it. Last edited by seamaiden; 10-29-2009 at 03:34 AM.. |

I definitely would, as long as I was comfortable with the context, posing, and use of the photos following the session.
Sounds like fun!

The only question I'd have: is she developing her own film? If yes, I'd do it. If no...well, I'd have to think a little harder. I'm shy, y'know.

If you trust her, then it shouldn't be a problem. Also if she's an aspiring photographer and REALLY serious about, I doubt she would break that trust by plastering you all over the internet. That would be a career ending move for her.
If she's a good photographer she'll be able to have you pose in a tasteful and artful manner. You can be nude in a photograph and not show much. It could actually turn out to be a piece of work of which you are proud. I've always wanted to get over my insecurities by posing for a nude painting. |

I have, many years ago and it was a wonderful opportunity to feel free and extremely beautiful. When I see those pictures now, I'm so glad that I captured myself at that time and place because it represents a wonderful, positive era for me and reminds me that I was once considered beautiful!
Do it! It's art and all photographers need wonderful models. Just be the one to decide where it goes and how far you take it also...get copies and don't sign away your rights.

I think I've decided not to get it done by my friend, but get a professional to do it. Some nice, expressive, tasteful black and white photo's would be lovely. And not that I don't trust my friend but theres a durastically smaller chance of the photos getting into the wrong hands if they're done by a professional. |

I would do it whether I knew the photographer. I would research the photographer if I didn't know them though. I would want to see some of their other work and look into their referances.
I did nude modeling for art classes and loved it. I learned a lot and felt so much more confident about my body. Seeing my naked body posed and turned into artwork made me see it from a totally different point of view than I get when I look into a mirror. The artist managed to show the beauty that they saw.

Hi Ive been reading this post off and on for awhile now
Anyhow you might be alarmed to know professional photographer always want to keep your negatives their excuse is you might want reprints However to my understanding after awhile they are initialled to use your negatives to re-copy and distribute, display and sell your pictures that comes under some law to do with Creative Commons license. However, if it were me and I have done it have your friends take them get some ideas from magazines in what you want the outcome to be. Importance of carefully selecting a good photographer, randomly picking a name from the telephone book - sucks... Who Keeps the Negatives? You will also want to make sure you understand how re-orders of photos will be handled. Will the photographer keep the negatives, as many do, or will he turn the negatives over to you as part of the package? Traditionally, photographers have always kept the negatives. So you need to be Right Out There asking Questions and to hand over those (Negatives) when you purchase the first set of prints... At least with a friend there is some kind of honesty to start off with right so thats my best bet for you Ive read all the others a advice and its good advice. Last words be sure that you are clear on whether or not you will be given the negatives. This is important so that you know precisely what your package price includes and will therefore be able to accurately compare the cost of one photographer to another. Hope it helps... - And, and, and do us girls get a peek-a-boo at the pictures later LMAO have a good day... |

Bryan (bear cub) takes naked photos of me all the time. It's fun. Just don't do anything that you would regret.

Such quaint advice...negatives? Developing film? I doubt there is a professional photographer left who uses film. It's all digital.
If you trust her, then I'd consider it. Talk more about what sorts of images she has in mind. Perhaps talk about deleting any images on site that you don't approve of, who owns the rights to the images and how they can be used. Don't be afraid to ask these questions, this is your image we're talking about. As far as the shyness? Go for it! It's very freeing and might help you see your own body in a new light.
