Scent Of A Woman

This thread is all about sharing how we pamper ourselves while bathing in the tub, showering, the jacuzzi, being fresh and

clean everyday, and smelling lovely. Let's share our ideas and tips for bath & body products, favorite fragrances and perfumes,

body wash, gels, oils, lotions, moisturizing mousse, mists, aromatherapy, holistic ideas, spa secrets, relaxing music to soak by,

and treating ourselves like princesses.

I haven't tried this yet but it's on my list...

I light a candle, turn out the lights, and watch a documentary or a movie while relaxing in a lavendar-scented bubble bath several nights/week. I love baths: excellent way to wind down after a long day.

I have dry skin, so I always have a hotel-sized bottle of scented lotion in my desk, in my car, and in my purse. Not only are they salvation for my dry spots, they're handy in a pinch when I want a little freshening-up.

I've become less picky about my hair over the years. Most shampoos and conditioners work about the same on my hair type. The few times that I have found something that has some wonderful effect, that effect fades after a week or two. After products and styling techniques make the difference.

I always have a hair dryer and a round brush handy, though during warmer months I don't bother to use it. Recently I have been styling my hair into a tidy side part and pulling it back into a bun while it is still wet. Occasionally I'll throw in a tight braid or two. I find I have greater control when working with wet hair and I need to apply less hair spray to keep its shape.

...your lavendar bubble bath sounds divine GG.

...i always draw my water a little extra warm and then take a quick shower before getting into the bath tub so i'm always soaking in clean water. By the time i get in the tub the temperature is perfect.

...that product in the youtube in my post #1 keeps the water warmer for longer and then i think it's amazing how the "step2" part makes the scented gel soak revert back to clean water for rinsing.

...tonight i used some Bath&Body Lotion and the scent was called Sea Island Cotton. It smells sooo spring time fresh.

I have to be careful about what products I use and where I use them; my SO is very sensitive to fragrance.

I've been switching off between Bath and Body Works Coconut Lime Verbena body cream (smells like summer) and their Japanese Cherry Blossom. These are so scenty I must apply them when he's not around. When I don't want anything scenty, I use Neutrogena's body oil.

I haven't taken an actual bath since the last time I was sick. I should probably do that. I used to take a lot of baths, but I share my tub/shower with three guys, so unless I want to disinfect it prior to each and every bath I just stick with the shower.

wooÐs 05-31-2009 09:01 PM

I used to take baths all the time. But currently I'm in a shower phase. Not too long ago, I learned how FANFREAKINGTASTIC oils are on wet skin. My skin is very dry. I've always had to go for heavier lotions (Nivea, Keri, etc.,) but now oils rule my world. Slather them on wet skin right after bath / shower and pat dry. Some of my favorites:

genuinegirly 05-31-2009 09:03 PM

Hm. I've never considered oil. I always assumed they'd leave my skin greasy. I have terribly dry skin as well, usually use heavy creams. I'm going to have to give oil a try. The three you posted here all look nice - I haven't seen the brand of the first picture you have there - is it "Aura Cacia"?

wooÐs 05-31-2009 09:11 PM

Yes. You can order it at Buy Discount Vitamins, Supplements, Low Carb and More at www.Vitacost.com {if I'm breaking a rule, sorry lol.} That's a great site with great prices on various stuff.

The same brand also makes an almond oil, sesame oil and apricot kernel oil. I've only tried the sesame as well as the grapeseed - the sesame's slightly lighter in weight but that's it. I think it might be a tad cheaper so if you wanted to try that one, you can.

Bonus - the Aura Cacia oils are unscented. So they won't mix with your perfume or what not.

CinnamonGirl 05-31-2009 09:18 PM

The shower/bath is the only place I'm really, truly GIRLY.

Aussie makes my favorite shampoos & conditioner... I usually switch to something else every other bottle, but it remains my favorite. The 3-minute Miracle conditioner is divine... I love when people pet my hair and seem amazed by how soft it is :)

Regular soap tends to dry out my skin, so I'm all about the creamy body washes. Caress has a nice subtle scent that I love, although sometimes I'll get something by Dove or Saint Ives.

I'm also a big fan of oils. At the moment, I'm using plain ol' Johnson's Baby Oil, but I also love Neutrogena's Mineral Oil. Yum.

If I REALLY want to pamper myself (and I don't get to do this often), I'll draw a hot bath, as hot as I can stand it, pour in some kind of oil, and soak for an hour with a glass of Shiraz and only candles for light.

Shell 06-09-2009 12:36 PM

CinnamonGirl...i too use the brand called Aussie and think it's miraculous!

...also, regarding dry skin...Crabtree & Evelyn has a triple-milled French soap with Jojoba oil (and no chemicals) that conditions the skin and also an exfoliating body bar that has Hemp oil in it called Uncharted. They also have an in-shower moisturizer (you shower with body gel, rinse, rub the in-shower moisturizer on you, then rinse lightly and dab with a towel.

Here's Crabtree & Evelyn's description of "Uncharted":

Uncharted
Exfoliating Body Bar with Hemp Oil
All-natural soap enriched with revitalizing hemp oil and finely ground coconut shell to condition, buff and smooth the skin.

• Naturally deodorizing
• Rich lathering
• Skin revitalizing
• Skin conditioning
• Skin smoothing
• Generous 7 oz bar

Scent: Crisp notes of ozone and juniper with citrus, pale woods and fresh green mosses.
Featured Ingredients:
Hemp oil (revitalizing), coconut shell powder (exfoliating)

Cielamara 06-09-2009 01:08 PM

I've been using a handmade soap lately, made by a local company...it's a goat's milk soap of sorts with oatmeal in it for a nice exfoliating kick. It smells wonderful.

As far as baths go...you might sometime try adding about two or three cups of milk to your bathwater, with a generous scoop of cornstarch, and perhaps a fourth of a cup of honey. It's wonderfully soothing. Mmmmmm.

genuinegirly 06-09-2009 01:38 PM

Ciel, that sounds like a fun concoction - what does the cornstarch do for the mix?

settie 06-09-2009 02:43 PM

Wish I could use those bath tips! Alas...I hate baths :(
I feel so icky and uncomfortable sitting in my bathtub.
Showers are all I take. *sighs*

When I exfoliate I use one of two products:
- CAKE Desserted Island Creamy Body Buffer (smells like vanilla and coconut) (sold almost exclusively in Toronto area...bah. Very tough to get my hands on unless I order online)
- Asquith & Somerset Coconut Sweet Lime Exfoliating Sugar Scrub. (smells like key lime pie!) (A rarity...from england!)

Both smell incredible, but are not overpowering.

My shampoo changes alot, my hair is never satisfied  At the moment, its Aussie Cleanse and Mend Shampoo. I rarely use conditioner, my hair is too fine. I maybe put some in once a month. Too much use makes it always feel greasy. yuck.

I don't use moisturizer as much as I should, but when I do, its Olay Quench, either the mousse or regular lotion. I love its summery smell, and texture. ^_^

As for fragrances, I'm stuck on two in particular: J'adore by Dior and Very Irresistible by Givenchy. :)

And, that's really all I have.

My local hippie food co-op sells them in bottles and in bulk. I've been meaning to try the almond oil. I'll have to get some next time I'm there.

Neutrogena's oil is sesame. I apply it right after I get out of the shower, and if it's warm enough, I just hang out and have some naked time while I dry :) My skin ends up extra moist and not at all greasy.

...try getting the tub all ready, then get squeaky clean in the shower first, then relax in the refreshing tub water and just soak until your muscles are all relaxed and your skin has drunk in some scented oils (not too much, just enough to moisturize and subtly scent). I prefer moisturizing bath products that are less oily.

...i have a jacuzzi with jets but i don't use them the whole time because i can hear the motor running. For total relaxation i turn them off and drink in the silence.

little_tippler 06-10-2009 02:19 AM

With regards to the name of this thread, I used to like scented bath products, now I prefer them to be a lot simpler smelling, just clean.

I no longer buy any old thing, and stick to what I know works. I buy most of my bathing products at the pharmacy, to ensure quality, simpler scents, and something that is not too harsh on my body.

I use several producst by Uriage. When I use their shower gel or face wash, I can instantly feel the change in my skin and how clean it is becoming as I use it. All the products smell like fresh soap. They could be unisex.

With my hair, I can use more scented products but I still like quality. Currently I like Aussie and Tigi products, because they actually do what they say and smell divine.

I rarely ever take baths. I'm far too fidgety for baths. I can't sit in one for too long before I get restless.

I think that gel thing in the OP is pretty weird. I wouldn't use it. I certainly don't want to feel like I'm bathing in thick creamy gel. Ugh.

ring 06-10-2009 03:24 PM

whispers of ylang ylang.
a pinch of bergamot,
traces of cedar and sage.

My guy, also loves a fragrant long soak.
A bathtub built for two, is a very fine goal.

I use products from the Body Shop which I love...soaps and lotions. I use a red shampoo because I dye my hair...red!!! I don't take baths just showers.

My husband loves the smell of the vanilla spice lotion from the Body Shop...let's just say it definitely gets him going.

Speaking of baths, I learned very recently that epsom salts can actually help with depression (temporarily.) The magnesium sulfate absorbs into your skin, raising the body's natural magnesium levels, which boosts serotonin. This totally makes sense as I've used this product forever and every time I get out of the bath, I feel fantastic.

http://img172.imageshack.us/img172/1...0000queenh.jpg

Really, check Magnesium sulfate - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia out. After reading, I went and bought 3 bags to have on hand. This stuff is like a wonder product.

Sue 07-11-2009 06:03 AM

I would love to take relaxing baths, but I hate my tub. Stereotypically small and square :\ I want to be covered up to my neck in hot water and good smelly things, but this tub makes it impossible.

wooÐs 07-12-2009 07:13 AM

Yeah that does suck.

But maybe you can still have nice showers? Like, light some candles, do a sugar or salt scrub before getting in (mix equal parts sugar or salt with baby oil or mineral oil and scrub all over your body.) Maybe even treat yourself every couple months to a hotel room so you can take an awesome bath lol.

Allyallyally 07-12-2009 11:10 AM

I really don't do all that much. I use coconut smelling shampoo, and cocoa butter on my skin... occasionally a honey/cinnamon scented body scrub to make my skin nice and soft.

Man, I just realised that I probably smell like a pastry.

My secret ingredient, though, one that has dazzled men and women alike - Jean Paul Gaultier's - Classique. I am absolutely convinced that perfume has magical powers.

...ally, i'll have to check out your suggestion. Is it a light fragrance? I love a light clean smell like Clinique's "Happy"...and even then, just a touch in secret places.

...sue, if you own your own home you could always remodel your bathtub...deep, large, and with jets. Meanwhile, just scooch way down and dangle your toes over the side...is there someone there to give you a foot massage while you soak? ...that would be pure heaven.

...let me know when you want a new large tub installed and i'll be happy to send over my handyman....and maybe he'll throw in that foot massage while you soak...a package deal...and he does have an attractive package :p

Oh, it's very light, with a touch of sweetness. You only need a small amount, it'll linger on your skin for hours after. Lemme know what you think if you do give it a try.

CinnamonGirl 07-12-2009 09:33 PM

Shell... you always post the best pics. And for that I thank you. :)

cellophanedeity 07-14-2009 11:49 AM

I need to be careful with soaps and creams because I have very reactive skin. It itches at the first sight of anything questionable!

I like Lush's products. They're nice and eco-friendly, and they leave me smelling like a very clean hippy.
When I want to really spoil myself I go for their "Big" shampoo, which has sea salts and pretty smells in it, and cleans my oily hair very well. Other days, I just use the solid shampoos, which smell amazing, but are a little less expensive.

For my skin, I like going to bed with the Body Shop's shea body-butter on, but it's much to heavy for me to actually use during the day. It smells amazing, and the next morning I wake up soft soft soft!
