Underwear Choices
Recently, I acquired a pair of fabulous underwear, the Ex Officio Give-N-Go boycut brief: PRODUCT: Womens Give-N-Go® Boy Cut Brief (2241-0078) CATEGORY: Bottoms
http://s7ondemand1.scene7.com/is/ima..._5000?$Detail$ I'm so in love. They're stretchy, comfy, and the best part? They're made with a quick-drying material, so I can handwash them and they're dry in a couple of hours (this requires a little work: the underwear must be wrapped up in a towel, then you stand on the rolled-up towel to extract as much water as possible). They also don't get as stinky as some of my other underwear--they've got an odor-resistant finish. I'll be getting some more (and no, I didn't pay full price, I got them off of a website called SteepandCheap--if you like outdoor gear at good discounts check it out). The other upshot is that my SO is in love with the cut. So thinking about my underwear made me wonder--what do you look for in a good pair? Do you have any brands you prefer over others? What cut do you favor? How important is comfort to you in choosing underwear? Comfort is key to me. My underwear drawer is mostly a mix of Victoria's Secret v-string bikinis and ItseBitse briefs from Costco. I like both brands because they wear well and they're comfortable. There are a few sexy pairs, but they don't get worn often because of the comfort factor. I don't really favor any particular cut. So let's hear from you! |
Most of my underwear is bikini styles from Victoria's Secret. I always get a coupon from them every month or so that give me a free panty when I buy something else, so I use those a lot.
Bikinis just fit me right. My rump is too big for thongs and I need cheek protection sometimes, but I hate granny panties, so low cut bikinis are my main underwear choice. Boycuts are nice to sleep in, and thongs and strings are good for preventing swampass on hot days, bikinis are perfect for both. |
OOOOOo those look nice, Snowy.
I enjoy underwear shopping. I go for comfort above all else - no funny pinching, please. Next I think about how long they will take to dry. I do a lot of handwashing as well, and I prefer not to have them sitting on the line for a prolonged amount of time. I have this one pair from REI that claimed to be quick-dry, but they take the longest of anything that I own. I purchased a few boy short-cut panties, only to find that they rode up uncomfortably and gave me a terrible bunching feeling all day. They're fun to wear to bed, though. My favorites have been made of a quick-drying mesh, lace, or my all-time favorite: Vanity Fair Illumination String Bikini. It dries super quick, it's comfortable, and it's incredibly sturdy. I have them in a number of colors. http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/...XL._AA280_.jpg |
Victoria Secret's cotton bikini briefs, beige only, please.
I wish someone would make something like those with tummy control, but alas, anything that says "control" in its name should be subnamed 'Sweatmaker". |
I'll echo the cotton VS low-rise bikini.
And occasionally a microfiber thong for my man. But, I too, have too much junk in my trunk to wear them daily. Boy shorts hit me in a really uncomfortable spot on my hip/thigh area, though. Those look comfy, snowy. |
I used to love thongs, and I have a whole drawer full of them. Once I had a baby though I stopped finding them comfortable. I don't find boy shorts comfortable at all either. I usually stick with a low rise bikini of some kind.
|
depends what I am wearing - atm it's a white lacy thong :p
Thongs and those half binkini half thong ones are excellent for work (Tangas I think they're called) but I will wear anything - I prefer lace and satin to plain cotton simply because it makes me feel sexier and I have a bit of a lingerie fetish. I am always matched top and bottom and own a heap of corsets and garter belts that I wear regularly for example LOTS of colours and different styles - but I can claim lingerie on tax as a dancer which helps. |
My favorite come from Frederick's of Hollywood. I like their thongs and boyshorts. Target is my other favorite place to get undies, I don't really like briefs anymore now that I have worn thongs and boyshorts.

I have to admit that I have acquired a thing for the men's microfiber boxer briefs at Target. They don't ride up like the girl 'boy shorts' do making them invisible under slacks. And they are super comfy. Great for sleeping in. Otherwise I have mostly low-rise hipsters and bikinis in various materials, but mostly cotton or cotton blends. I prefer something with a little stretch to them so they cling to me instead of my clothing. I HATE underwear lines through my clothing and will go without rather than put up with them.
|
I've gotten used to wearing the boy shorts or hipsters. I used to wear thongs all the time but tried the hipsters on a whim and thought they were more comfortable. I wasn't constantly wanting to adjust them. So now they make up the majority of my drawer. There are a few thongs in there but they're for fun or when I absolutely have to hid the lines.

isn't this what they used to call tanga? they're called "cheekies" now.
i'm actually a little interested. |
those look really, really uncomfortable...
|
The cotton versions looks less so. I was looking for a less provocative picture. Cropped it down.
|
Cheekies are Soooooooooooooooooooooooooooo comfy. I was wondering what they're called. The last batch of panties that I purchased were all that style.
|
Someone (a man) gave me a link to a photo of tangas and they look just like regular thongs to me so now I am confused!!!!
NSFW.....Here it is: http://www.supertangas.com/ |
wow, thassa lot of ass
|
Yes. That is what happens when men go looking for Tangas. Ha.
|
a little cursory searching on the internet would suggest that the panties posted by noodle are indeed tanga-style, or what is sometimes referred to as 'tanga shorts'
I think the site you were sent has usurped the name for aesthetic effect 'cause they didn't want to name it 'superthongs.' :p |
I prefer VS cotton low-rise bikinis.
I also love their wide-side thongs (Victoria's Secret - Wide lace-trim thong) and I'm intrigued by hiphuggers, though I don't have the money to go out and buy some. |
Honestly i normally do not wear any underwear. I really don't see the point in them unless it's that special week. Then I love the Victoria bikini cotton ones, really comfy.
I as well went through a huge thong phase and thought they were really hot, now i like to prance around in a tank and boy short type undies in the summer time. These "cheekies" look sexy and supper comfortable all at the same time. I saw a pair and wasn't sure if I should get them. Does anyone in here wear those? Are they comfortable? If they are I would like to get some. |
I wear a lot of different types of underwear, if I wear any at all. I wear mostly thongs and boyshorts or tangas, I rarely wear bikinis or other cuts where a seam sits loosely across my cheeks. Cotton and lace are the two most comfy fabrics to me.

Oh and I usually sleep in boy shorts or boxer briefs for women. |
Thanks that's helpful!
But I've been dying to ask other women, what the hell is the point of underwear? I mean really why do we need them other then that one week a month, I just don't understand the point maybe you guys can help me understand why we need panties. |
Well, especially when the weather is relatively cold outside, I tend to get overly "moist" and I definitely do NOT want it showing up on my work clothes for everyone at the office to see.
|
Tanga to me is the portuguese word for thong or g-string. I think that the word's use over in the US likely comes from Brazil. I'm pretty sure that those "cheekie" briefs are not tangas.
Hipster briefs and boy shorts are similar, though boy shorts give more coverage. I don't like shorts generally, I feel kind of masculine in them. I own a couple of tangas but most of my underwear is low rise bikini briefs - preferably black. I prefer them to be cotton, though I hate that they don't cling as much. I like to be comfortable, but I like to feel and look sexy too. I also like to match the top and the bottom as much as possible. @ Tiny Dancer, I'd love to not wear undies, but I need them most days. I'd get my clothes a little wet regularly if I didn't. Lucky you if you can get away with no undies. |
I need to wear undies as well, same reason as LT.
|
Like other ladies here, I have to wear panties. I can't go without them, otherwise there will be a mess.
|
I always have wondered how woman could go without, like when you see those videos/pics of upskirts.....
I need to wear something even if it is just a thong. |

No kidding!!
Jeans would drive me mad with no undies. I can't be chaffed quite that way! |
Well there is a slight mess but very minimal for me. I don't mind most fabrics they don't bother me too much.
But there would be no way I could wear a skirt without undies though, have to have them when I wear those, or thick tights. You would never get a bare up skirt shot of me that's for sure. But otherwise I don't see much of a point, they get in the way, I suppose I'm just lucky and don't discharge much. |
I was getting so confused with all this talk of Tangas, so I wikipedia'd it out
Lo and behold! Panties - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia There's our answer :) http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...antyStyles.png The two styles I wear regularly are hipster briefs and bikini briefs. I do have a couple of thongs I wear in the summer mostly, as well as some boyshorts, which aren't too comfy with my big figure-skater butt. I always go for comfort when it comes to panties, but on the rare occasion I want to feel sexy, or feel like wearing lingerie, I have my thongs and lacy boyshorts. Most of my panties are lycra material. I'm not fond of lace or cotton or silk. Lycra feels the most comfy. Actually, when it comes to panties, I like it to feel like I'm not wearing any at all, which most of my panties accomplish. My bra and panties never match either, lol. I really don't care. And, as I mentioned in another thread about bras, I only wear Victoria's Secret bras. I'm cheap when it comes to panties, but never cheap when it comes to bras. It goes from one weather extreme to the other where I live, so I wear panties always in the frigid winter, and like to go panty-less in the summer when I wear capris or pants. But never when I wear jeans, gosh, that would be awful. |
Jeans really don't bother me, I have a pair that are silver jeans and they are the most comfy and soft jean I have also the tightest so if i were to wear undies I would have no choice but to wear a thong.
|
I'm a hipster/boyshort kinda gal. I have a variety of other styles--low rise briefs, thongs, string bikins, etc.--because I like a variety. But my I definitely prefer the shorts, particularly under skirts.
|
Cheekies are nice, too. Sometimes they settle weird, but if they're cut the right way, they usually stay put and are extremely comfortable and sexy.
|
i realized i've been quite ignorant with the types of panties I only distinguish between thongs and briefs even if i own pretty much all of the ones listen on the chart. After looking at the panty chart posted by settie, i prefer bikini above all. I have so many panties that are sitting untouched in my drawers because they aren't wrapping my bum the way it should. The combination of material and style makes such a big difference in comfort level because some just don't sit right even if its the right style. However bikini would be my favourite! :)

As long as they look pretty...and suit me.. I like lacey short style ones, silky satiny pretty ones..not a bit thong fan really prefer pretty sexy rather than sexy sexy if you get me! although some thongs elongate your legs:)
