My mom and I went into David's Bridal today to try on my dress and walked out with it paid for!:thumbsup:

So, my wedding isn't going to be until the spring of 2010. We graduate next June and want to get married the following spring. I have always wanted my wedding dress to be a lil different instead of the typical white wedding dress and I love the color red. So I started searching for wedding dresses that incorporated red and found the perfect one. My mom suggested that since its not likely the style will still be around in two years we should buy it now especially if it was what I really wanted. So we went, tried it on and put it on order since the store dress had makeup smudges on it. Here's the dress:

The funniest part of the day was the reaction of the staff at the shop. We walk in tell them my wedding won't be for 2 years, don't even have a real date set but I know the exact dress I want. I try it on walk out of the dressing room let my mom zip me up look in the mirror, look at my mom and she asks if I like it. I say yup, ask her if she likes it she says yes its pretty. Then I turn around to take it off, one of the ladies asks if I 'd like to try anything else on we say no we'll take this one. All the women: brides, brides mothers, wedding stylists all turn to look at me in astonishment. It was great, it fit perfectly, we found the right veil and headpiece, ordered the dress paid for all of it and walked out the door. LOL

My mom later told my dad that she could tell the ladies didn't think we were seriously looking for a dress yet, that they just thought we were just browsing. And the better part is that the whole shabang cost $888.00!

Just wanted to share my funny story and ask if any of you ladies had any funny stories about shopping for wedding dresses?

I thought I knew exactly what kind of dress I wanted and had talked to a friend about making it for me since I hadn't found anything close to it in my size. My sister convinced me to go to David's Bridal and try some dresses on. I knew I always wanted to wear color for my wedding so we started looking at bridesmaid's dresses. I confused several people around me because they figured since I was shopping in the bridesmaids section my sis must be the bride.
I found my perfect dress there which is 180* from what I thought I wanted. The best part it that since it was color, it was half what a similar style in white would have been.

What a fun thread. My wedding was June 7, 2008. We spent about that much time planning, I too purchased my dress long before the big day.

Kudos to you! Always an adventure, picking out the dress. And to have the perfect one without dealing with salespeople - even better.

I was rather un-impressed with the craftsmanship at the David's bridal near me. Great that you found something that worked so well.

After having little luck searching for dresses in local bridal stores, I found my ideal style online. I pieced it together from different vendors, and was quite pleased with the result.

I spent a total of $277 on my wedding ensemble before minor alterations. Alterations included installing a french bustle and making the top super tight so it wouldn't fall off (I don't trust strapless gowns).

The deal that I couldn't believe was the price of my veil. It was everything I was searching for - utterly ideal for $12.29. They made a typo when they posted it on Amazon. The description said $122.90, but the price said $12.29, and that's what I paid. I wanted a traditional chapel-length mantilla veil. For a solid year I thought I would never find one in my price range. I was just thrilled when this one worked out. My dress was so simple, I needed the delicate veil to complete the ensemble.

I have little to no experience with weddings, but I have to say, LCfedup that's a pretty beautiful dress! Stunning and different...I like the back better than the front but it does stand out.

I don't know if I ever got married that I'd be gutsy enough to wear red, but this is definitely making a statement. Congratulations to you on your wedding. :icare:

I really like the dress!!! Of course I had to click the little boxes to have it come up in different colours. :) I'd pick the royal blue I think. :D

Gorgeous dress, but a word of advice re: strapless. Do NOT raise your arms to throw a bouquet, toss doves, etc. A couple of photos have been making the email rounds of brides doing those things and giving their wedding guests a view they hadn't bargained for.

I think the dress is stunning. Just make sure your weight does not fluctuate much between now and the big day, that is the only issue I foresee with buying a dress that far in advance.

I wanted a different dress also, mine kinda had stripes....

My fiance loves me in the color red and surprisingly my complexion with my dark hair and dark eyes looks good in red.


As for weight, I'm actually hoping to lose another 20 lbs and the David's Bridal shop said as long as I had the receipt I could bring the dress back to get it altered. As it stands it fits perfectly.

Along those lines, don't jump up in the air without holding the rest of your dress! My dress + poofy thing underneath weight about 15 lbs (heavy satin fabric), and there's one picture of me with the bridal party, after the ceremony, where we're all jumping up in the air at the same time... and yeah, I was *this* close from a Janet Jackson wardrobe malfunction. My body jumped up, and the heavy dress stayed put. I mean, you can seriously JUST see the top of one areola, no joke!!! But it was pretty funny when I got the pics back... we all had a good laugh.

Anyway, your dress is lovely... I loved shopping for my wedding dress, so it's always fun to watch other people pick theirs out. :)

I'm not engaged, but yesterday, me and a bunch of friends went to various wedding dress shops and tried on dresses and took pictures in the change rooms. It was lots of fun, and i can't wait to actually shop for a wedding dress.
I had lots of fun. I'm no where close to being engaged, but I have an idea of what kind of dress I am looking for now though.

What a great way to add color to the gown, I probably would have insisted on that one or the same with a different color for my wedding and then tried to get my bridesmaids in the same style in the same color-minus the white.

Thanks for sharing, wow I love that dress so much-maybe for my ten year anniversary we could get remarried and I could buy that dress. LOL

I've decided that my bridesmaids will wear pearl pink dresses probably about knee to mid calf length with red crinoline underneath so that it peaks out from under the dress to add a little spunk.

Oh and red shoes dyed to match my dress.

I happen to be very partial to the color red and think it's fabulous!

What month will you be getting married, just curious?

Been married twice but never had a really big wedding or super fancy gown. For my first (1980), I wore a Victorian ecru lace and satin mid-calf length with an antique short veil. I still have that size 5 dress in my closet. I have no idea why I keep it as I doubt any of my girls would ever wear it.

Probably April. I want lilies for the flowers so spring is my best choice plus living in So Cali its the best time not too cold or too hot. Plus my mom has vacation from school normally during that month and the months before and after her break are always in the middle of report cards or state testing. Don't want to drive my poor mom batty.

That is a gorgeous dress. A very classy way of stepping away from the norm. I would have never thought of that. I remember shopping for dresses with my mother. We walked into A&S and walked out with my gown, $300 off the rack. I wanted a simple dress, with little beading. Turns out my dress looked almost exactly like my mom's! I used her headpiece and got a new veil.
