Tattoo cover up makeup?
Okay, so I chose in my younger years to get two smaller tattoos on my right shoulder and one on my left. Two are all black and the ladybug is dark but small. And found a gorgeous halter-necked floor length dress with a rhinestone accent under the bust for a dinner with my love's bosses and the upper eschelon of his company and I'm fairly sure they won't go. I'm going to get a coverup jacket/shawl/something but just in case....
Any thoughts on types of makeup to use on the back of my shoulders? I'm allergic to zinc, iodine, and a lot of minerals so I have to check ingredients and I'm super fair-skinned. I'm going to check out David's Bridal tomorrow because I hear they have "something" but I was looking for personal experiences from anyone. :) Thanks in advance ladies. |
I tried to cover up one on my arm before I was to get married. I bought some expensive tattoo cover up makeup off the internet. Let's just say it looked WAY WORSE covered up then it did letting it show. It was so obvious and I am not at all fair skinned. I think you better just let them all hang out!

Google is your friend. :)
It looks like your best bets are either Going with this video's instructions or buying Dermablend. Hope that helps! |
My sister was studying to be a tattoo artist and said there are patches that can cover tattoos, but I'm not sure what the name is. You might be able to google it or something, but there is something besides makeup to cover them up.

I don't have any tattoos, but when I bought the brand of makeup I currently use, the cosmetician told me it works wonders on covering up tattoos. She showed me pictures of some cover ups she did with the makeup on herself and on clients, you couldn't tell a tattoo was ever there!
The makeup is called Cover FX, its made in Toronto. http://www.coverfx.com/ I have fairly sensitive skin too (thanks to going on Accutane for 3/4 year -_-), and this stuff is great for me; doesn't make me itch, the cream-based cover up is light and keeps the skin soft and moisturized, it doesn't smear, etc. Check out the site. I got my Cover FX at Shoppers Drug Mart (Canadian version of the US Drug Mart Walgreens) Though, this stuff is quite expensive. Mine has lasted me a year though because I don't have to constantly re-apply, and only need just a little bit to actually cover up. :P |
Thanks so much for the suggestions.
My first move was to Google, but I was looking for more personal experiences for exactly the reason Nikki mentioned. Unfortunately, CoverFx isn't available outside Nordstroms (which is only in the swanky areas of Florida) per their website, but I'm going to try the Dermablend counter at Dillards this week. I have some pretty gnarly chicken pox scars on my forehead so I'm thinking this might help there, too. Usually I don't really worry about the tattoos, but I'm being respectful of my man's wishes in being more subdued for this semi-formal event. :) |
I am curious to know how well this is working for you should I be needing something similar in the future. Please do let us know.
|
I think you should just leave them as they are. People who judge you because of tattoos aren't worth dealing with, and it'll probably still be obvious anyway.
|
I'm also curious to see if you find anything good as my company hates tattoos so I wear a lot of long sleeves and it will get hot eventually.
Unfortunately I don't have anything to add though. |
Ugh. What a horrible experience.
The dermablend made a tiny ladybug tattoo the size of a dime look like poorly repaired gunshot wound. At least the lady behind the counter was cool about it. We both decided it was wretched and I'm just going to wear the shawl/cover up thingie. Plus, it's going to be freaking COLD. Around 40 and rainy that night. |
Hate to say that I knew that would happen. I think unless you are a professional makeup artist covering a tattoo is almost impossible.

Tattoo Camo
I've used Tattoo Camo to cover up my tattoo in the past. I mixed two different shades for the best skin tone match. It stays on all day and doesn't look to cakey or fake. You can watch a youtube video they made on how to apply by searching "tattoocamo"

Kat Von D has a tattoo concealer. I haven't tried it, but I figure that she's the pro, right? It's available at Sephora.

I tried covering up SI scars for my sisters wedding this summer and it was a nightmare! I hope you find something that works!
