Hi. I'm a college student in New York City. Seems like an extremely active forum here. It's only my second time I've joined any forum. The other one was much small than this one. Please be gentle.

found this site at work when I was bored. Laughed loads and winced at the sexuality history! There's some funny, charming, nice and some sick sadistic, heartless people out there.
Don't know if I'll post much, depends what is being asked.
I'm from the UK and am in my 30's. A man for sure.

My name's Mike. I'm an easy going guy. I just recently decided to contribute to this forum (I had an account for a while but never really visited.) After going through pages of posts, I said, Hey, the people at this forum are friendly so I'm going to join the community.

I'm a 24 year old guy and live in the ATL. I wonder if referring to it as "the ATL" makes me pretentious? I guess time will tell

Yes, Mike, we are very friendly. And fun, too. Just watch out for our welcome wagon Tecoyah (just kidding, Tec- you know I love ya!).

And handsolow, I don't think saying the ATL makes you pretentious, but then again, I really don't know what you are referring to. Maybe that makes me slow?

Big Bear, I don't know what you are drinking, but save some for me!

Welcome everyone! Have fun and try to clean up after yourselves a little. I hate cleaning up after parties.

So is this title a new thread? "hybrid tree-linear view"???

Can someone explain to me why this interface is as good as, for example the Google Groups interface (after you select "view as tree" and "show title only")

I see there is a claim that using some kind of "option" I can view threads as trees and then even "hybrid" view as a combination of "tree" and "linear".

But I dont see anything to click on that looks like what this claim is.

Granted the Google Gorups ( ie old Usenet) GUI gets complicated when 20 or more people are replying to other people on the thread at times ranging over several days or weeks. Though usually the people replying are doing so within the same day before the thread replies go some where else... so the chronology of the conversation is usually not too difficult until replies get over fifty or so.

SO MY QUESTION I GUESS IS:
Does anyone know what is meant by the claim in the TF FAQ that there are options for viewing threads like trees or "hybrids of tree and linear"
All I see is one long linear list with a reply button at the very top of the list... I cant even see a way to reply to one specific person in this list on a thread.

You can change it either in your User CP under Options, or change it in the thread under 'display modes' in the top-right corner of the thread.

however, I'm guessing that 99% of the people use and are used to the default linear mode.

If you want to reply to a specific person, just use the 'quote' button

Hiya - just a quick hello and introduction to the board. I'd been feeling a little lost and lonely since my previous boards faded from existence - a little sad I know, but I find that message boards can be some of the best ways to discover new things, new ideas, and to express oneself. A friend of mine mentionned that tilted was her favourite place of all time, and so I find myself here. I have no idea what her s/n is here, I know her as clipsey, but I'll try to hunt her down soon enough.

I'm looking forward to shooting the shit with people here, discussing anything and everything from philosophy to pop-culture (and especially where the two intersect).

-edit- I'm used to being the old-hand, it feels like a long time since I was last a n00b, so this will definitely be a little bit of culture-shock...

Meet me.

Not entirely sure how to use this forum yet, but this seems like it'll do the trick.

Since I've just joined now, I'm likely to be the newest member of this here forum.
I've never used an online forum thing before, but it seems like a really good idea.

I was going to ask if there is a place to post my own written works as I bleed my creative self dry, and then I noticed Tilted Literature, so I can only assume I've already found my niche. I'll be sure to explore the rest though.

This was supposed to be an Introduction I believe, so here goes. You can call me either benny or stone, or ben or stoner, or veneno mortal or stoned. All pretty much apply pretty much all of the time. I hail from a small town called Cardiff by the Sea, which is located in Northern San Diego County. It happens to be one of the more beautiful and quaint places to grace the surface of this earth. Most of Cardiff's residents are rich or lucky, I am far from both.

I work in a small pizza place right behind a bar. There are four employees, two of which are the owners. Going to work is like traveling to Boston. So much so, that I've started wearing Red Sox gear to work. If the Sox game isn't on the tv, it's on the satellite radio. If the Sox lose, I get a demotion. If they win, I get a bonus. The only reason I usually make rent is because they're having a good season.

At work, I've mastered the art of making pizza piess, but my true job is delivery. I didn't take my job seriously until one night, I brought 3 pies to a raging party in Leucadia. Ever since that fateful night, I realized that pizza delivery was a blessing. Now I make it my duty to crash every party that occurs in a 3 mile radius from my work.

I'm a jack of all trades and a master of none. At 19, I've traveled to 4 countries and 40 states. My preferred language is English, but my Spanish gets better every day.

I drive a 1983 Oldsmobile Cutlass Brougham. The hood, grill, and side-front panels are red where the rest of the car is black. This is because the first, and only other, owner nailed a deer going 50 mph. The mpg is awful, and it's aggressively ugly, but I've added some character to it. Two sizeable horns protrude from the bare-boned skull that adorns the grill of my car. People frequently ask me if I'm from Texas. I'm not, by the way, just a very sick individual. The rear is slathered in bumper stickers advocating beer, spirits, liquor, and fornication. The CD player that I have installed is not half bad either.

Other than my looks, I'm nothing special. Beautiful? Yes. Sextastic? Yes. Interesting? Not so much. I can't even say I've kept my looks up that well since I haven't had a photo shoot in nearly 5 months now.

I'm learning guitar, but every time I practice my neighbor calls the cops because he thinks that someone is killing a cat somewhere. I don't let that get to me.

I play about every sport imaginable, but none very well. Tennis twice a week, beach volleyball once a week, basketball thrice a week, boogieboarding/surfing/bodysurfing thrice a week, softball once a week, weightlifting five times a week, rugby once a month, ultimate frisbee twice a month if i can.
I'm best at tennis, but since I only play against one guy who is phenomenally good I haven't ever won a game. But I make him work for that win, dammit!

At this point, I'm sure you can only possibly be thinking one thing. How could one person possibly talk about themself for such a long period of time. Perhaps it's because I talk about other people all day long. Perhaps it's because I am insufferably long-winded. Or perhaps I'm just incredibly arrogant. Actually it's all three.

And that concludes the longest introduction to TFP you've likely ever suffered. Look for my works in the Tilted Literature Forum if you're into very dark, strange, and demented fiction.

Benny

I'm fairly new, though my join date isn't. I originally was part of Table Talk and followed a thread there through the demise of TT, then the demise of People's Forum, then it just got too small and insular and became a closed community - which means no new ideas, no new fun. So I finally went through with my plan to start somewhere in a new community, with my secret identity and my tendency to turn green and muscular when angry.

No... wait... that's David Banner. I remain pink and pudgy.

Married, no kids, journalist, wannabe a wannabe writer.

Not a moderator here, but I think you should stop making pointless posts just to get an avatar. You need quality posting dude. Contribute. Share. Give your opinion. I've noticed your BS "one more closer to an avatar" posts in more than one thread. Moderators are watching what you post man. 'They' give you the avatar option. As a matter of fact they decide if you move up from rookie status depending on whether or not they feel you've contributed the good stuff or the bullshit.

Anyway, welcome to TFP. It's a great place to pass along knowledge and take in knowledge as well.

One last thing - You can be silly in the Nonsense Forum.
Oh one more thing - There is this little button on the right bottom corner of all your posts which read 'EDIT'. Use it.
