How do I get rid of my 'noob' status?

Just post more? Just wondering.

Welcome!

More or less yeah, that's it, but membership doesn't thrive on post count alone.
Check out this forum:

and an excerpt from a the sticky:

1. Member participation is strongly encouraged and rewarded, though we insist that you make your contribution to the TFP as meaningful as possible. Please do not post frivolously to achieve status. Our economy does not run on post counts.

2. 250 worthwhile posts will earn you a custom avatar. 500 worthwhile posts will earn you a custom title. That's all you can gain by posting in volume.

If you really don't like your "Rookie" status (which I can understand too) my advice is to read a lot, and post in the threads you find interesting. It will go away before you know it, seriously.

Esen 09-29-2004 02:01 AM

HI,
Well first off welcome to the forums.
This thread will most likely be moved to tilted newbies, but that is why the tilted newbie board is here for.

Yes you will need to keep posting BUT that does not mean you are guaranteed to one day have access to all the boards.

When you post remember that you are a part of a community.
Think of each board as a wealth of information and support for you to utilize and share.

If you just keep posting " great post" or I "agree" etc.. you will wind up missing out on a lot and will not really have benefited from the community.

Find a few forums that you really like, ones that spark your interest and you will find others who have things in common with you and you may find yourself having fun.

Having fun is in my opinion the sure fire way to lose your "newbie status".

nukeu666 09-29-2004 04:10 AM

when i joined...i made something like 10-20 posts a day till all the current threads wre posted in
i had my avatar in no time

so u just gotta keep posting without getting banned
(and posts in the erogoneous zone dont count i think)

telekinetic 09-29-2004 11:49 AM

Just don't spam the boards....

Ummm - nope - I'm no longer a rookie, but my post count is only just over 100.

It is not about post counts - membership basically requires contribution - not a specific number of posts.

rail 10-12-2004 11:57 PM

lol... sorry, but from what I see, you have to participate the entire time. They give and take things from you easily here... good luck and keep posting to gain the respect you think you deserve!

retroboy 10-14-2004 07:17 PM

so is it 100 or 200 posts to get rid of the rookie tag?

bitrunner 10-14-2004 07:34 PM

I think when I had 50 posts the rookie tag went away..

Zoz 10-14-2004 10:03 PM

For those who weren't reading, the Rookie Tag is not based on post count. It is based on contribution. I would suggest you all read the posts to encourage your contribution ;)

Glory's Sun 10-15-2004 05:56 AM

If you contribute on a regular basis..you'll lose that tag before you know it. Around here there really isn't much focus on the tags. What I mean by that is we don't hold rookies in a lower regard than anyone else, as long as you are contributing meaningful posts and following the charter.

naruto510 10-15-2004 04:04 PM

oh i get it now

Are they any regions of the site that are off-limits to rookies such as myself? What I'm trying to say is, is there any more tangible reason for wanting to upgrade my status?

3. The TFP has many private forums that are not accessible to new users. They are more private, sensitive and community oriented in nature and so we have a very strict screening process to gain access to them.

4. After a brief probation period, users are reviewed by our moderators to determine if they are mature enough to participate in the private forums.

5. Infractions of TFP policy will hinder your review and may indefinately postpone it.

I finally lost my rookie status. I have to say that losing access to the errogenous zone has totally opened up my eyes as far as how great the different forums are. I went from posting solely in the Titty board to posting in the Motors, gaming, nonsense, sports, music, and sexuality forums. I'm actually enjoying the tfp more now than i did before.

Beatlefan58 10-20-2004 06:57 AM

I just moved from Rookie to Tilted (not sure exactly when, but it was in the last day or so). Now what? Can you get into chat rooms or something now that you're not a rookie? I guess my question is "What should I notice as different?" because as of now, I don't see anything as has changed.

Averett 10-20-2004 07:15 AM

Moving strictly from Rookie to Tilted doesn't necessarly grant you anything special. Just a new title :)

As far as the chat room, anyone can join that. I think the specifications on that are in the General Discussion forum. I haven't been in ages myself.

When you become a "full member" you'll see new forums such as Members Playground and Tilted Exhibition. Cool stuff like that :)

analog 10-20-2004 08:25 AM

Congrats to Beatlefan58, who just made it to full member status. Enjoy the rest of the board! :)

Averett 10-20-2004 09:48 AM

*golf clap*

Missy 10-20-2004 01:16 PM

Congrats Beatlefan!!! I'm still looking for the big move myself, I'm dying to see what all the hub-bub is about :)

jadedt 10-20-2004 06:48 PM

Decent concept about members contributing more than vapid chatter or just plain monetary transfers. I emulate Missy's curiousity about the glory of membership as well.

bigcid420 10-22-2004 07:48 AM

Man first post 199 to go :)

JackBurton 10-22-2004 04:32 PM

This site is pretty damn cool. i doubt it'll take too many rooks (like myself) long to get of the bottom.

jenjen 10-23-2004 10:42 PM

I was feeling pretty proud of myself that I am now "tilted" and not a rookie, then I looked on the front page and saw that some user has 6790 posts - that is unbelievable!

kycnl 10-29-2004 11:10 AM

Hope my status checks out

Bustello 10-30-2004 04:00 PM

If the posting doesn't count to make to full member, does it mean that the administrators check personally every member contributions?

So, am I basically just hoping somebody with power here recognizes that I'm posting and lifts my noob status?

I understand the desire for a real "community" status. Arbitrary rules on status changes just kinda rub my desire for order the wrong way.

SiN 11-01-2004 02:47 PM

Please read the policy link in my sig.

your user titles are affected by your post count. So, if you're associating noob w/rookie, that's how that works.

Status is based on rank (for potentiality) and quality (in actuality).

Are we clear now? :)

Just out of curiousity, do you basically hope that some admin notices your contributions and promotes you or is there some system by which you are considered?

tecoyah 11-02-2004 06:13 PM

In short....yes. Many are raised in status "Early" due to excellent contribution to the community.

McG 11-02-2004 10:32 PM

Thanks for the Info

jon_264 11-25-2004 04:48 AM

Thanks for all the info in this thread! It helped me to get an understanding of the way this site works! I would love to drop my 'Rookie' status but have enjoyed the past few days just reading what's going on in all the boards and posting where I feel I had something to add! Before I knew it I had posted twenty something posts so I agree that just getting on with it is the best method!
