Yes - Last I checked, posts in Nonsense and TB don't count towards your post total because the quality of posts in those two areas do not reflect the same as in the other areas of the board.

Poppinjay 09-22-2005 08:44 AM

I understand that, since most of my posts have been in "reveal the last poster's secret" which are mostly one liners. However, the Henry Earl thread I started (which hardly anybody has seen) took a trememndous amount of time and html. I guess I should have put it in Humor.

Could a mod put it in humor? I don't care about the post credits. I think I made the incorrect choice when I put it in nonsense. I am a n00b, after all.

maleficent 09-22-2005 09:09 AM

Posts in Nonsense, while fun.. don't count against your total post count...

amonkie 09-22-2005 09:10 AM

Poppinjay - just PM a mod - you can find a list of them Here

or hit the "Report Post" button, and in the comments section state you are the creator of the thread, and would like it moved to Humor.

Poppinjay 09-22-2005 11:14 AM

Thank you!

Humor doesn't count, either, so I could move it there if it's funny, but there's no post count in it. :)

Poppinjay 10-06-2005 10:19 AM

Ooh! Oooh! Mistah Kotter! I have another question. It's 2:19 here, when I post this it will say 6:19. Where is this server located? Switzerland?

2quillmadness 10-06-2005 05:02 PM

Hi, Ok, in my profile it says I have a referral. The problem is, I've only been here a few days and I've never used the referral link. I didn't even know what a referral on this site was until I saw that I had one and looked it up in the FAQ.

Are the referrals used in a different way here? Can they be accumulated in a way other than using the link?

I'd just hate to think I was somehow stealing someone else's referrals if they are what the FAQ says they are. :/

amonkie 10-06-2005 07:08 PM

Poppinjay - if you go into the User CP at the top of the page, you need to go to :

Edit Options:

Scroll down to the Day/Time Options, then select the correct time zone for your area. That should take care of your issue.

2quillmadness, referrals appear when someone else registers with the forum and gives your name as the person who led them here at that time. As far as it having telling anything more than the number of people who put your line in the blank when they registered, I'm not aware of anything.

2quillmadness 10-07-2005 07:03 PM

Thanks for clearing that up for me amonkie :)

What is considered "Quality post"?

tecoyah 10-18-2005 02:31 AM

Something that contributes in any way to our community, and follows the guidelines of civil discourse:

1) U R such a dweeb (not a quality post)

2) Your reply to the post was difficult to understand, would you mind rephrasing it?
(quality post)

iblade 10-18-2005 11:46 PM

What are the best forums to start off. I mean, I don't really feel like jumping directly in the Politics forum, if you know what I mean...

trickyy 10-18-2005 11:57 PM

try clicking on the New Posts link up above...

tecoyah 10-19-2005 02:55 AM

General Discussion is an excellent place to begin, calm and active. Also lets you get to know the community.

Grasshopper Green 10-19-2005 04:57 PM

tec is right about General Discussion, or pick one that you are really interested in, like Music or Gaming or something. My first home was Paranoia (hehe) and I read all the posts in there for my first few visits until I got the "flow" of the board.

iblade 10-23-2005 04:16 PM

What's the quickest way to have access to own's own posts? I usually search the forum for my own posts, then click on my user name... I usually want to see if someone answered my posts. Isn't there a way using like the CP?

Click on your username on one of your posts, then click "Find more posts by iblade." (Or look at the bottom of the forum index page and scroll down to the "Currently active users" box, click on your name, which should be first on the list, then click "Find all posts by iblade") Then, look through the searched threads and look for this icon: http://www.tfproject.org/tfp/images/...n/post_new.gif. That icon means there have been new posts to the thread that you posted in, but not necessarily that anyone responded to you.

Poppinjay 10-24-2005 01:31 PM

What's the difference between an administrator and a moderator?

tecoyah 10-24-2005 05:43 PM

Admins talk alot louder....and dont warn people they are coming. Mods are pleasant and understanding individuals who smell nice and give expensive presents on holidays.....

Actually the Administrators are the force behind the changes, and evolution of the program we use here. We Mods are just here to keep the peace.

All of a sudden, i got the picture of my head of tec handing out iPods this christmas while wearing Armani di'Gio.

that made my boring night of HW that much more amusing.

Philosopher 10-29-2005 06:16 PM

If I agree with something that has been said a few times in a thread, can I still post saying I agree? Obviously not just a simple 'I agree'. But on some subjects that have been thoroughly covered I still might like to express my opinion. Would it be regarded as a quality post?

amonkie 10-29-2005 07:06 PM

The biggest indicator of Quality is that you have read and thought about the Opening Post and subsequent posts, and the words you type in response have some substance. I often feel as you do that I agree with a lot of posters who reach a thread before I do. At that point, I choose either to withhold my voice because I don't feel I have something to add other than simply "I agree", or I can try to find something new to add. This doesn't merely mean that I have to provide useless drivel - often times I might have a question for one of the previous posters, or have a related question or issue come to mind based on how the discussion has gone.

tecoyah 10-30-2005 03:29 AM

Quality Opinion....makes a quality post. The length makes little difference in this. What we look for are patterns in personality, and use what the percieved , and combined quality is , to form a picture of the member.

I don't have the option to have an avatar. Is that because I am new, or did I screw something up?

Glory's Sun 11-08-2005 08:39 AM

katie-- the option to have an avatar (among other things) doesn't appear until you reach 250 quality posts. If you click the 'click this' in my sig, all will be explained :D

# MEMBERSHIP ADVANCEMENT AND FEATURES

1. Member participation is strongly encouraged and rewarded, though we insist that you make your contribution to the TFP as meaningful as possible. Please do not post frivolously to achieve status. Our economy does not run on post counts.

2. The TFP has many private forums that are not accessible to new users. They are more private, sensitive and community oriented in nature and so we have a very strict screening process to gain access to them.

3. After a brief probation period (one month at the VERY LEAST), users are reviewed by our moderators to determine if they are mature enough to participate in the private forums.

4. Infractions of TFP policy will hinder your review and may indefinately postpone it.

5. 250 worthwhile posts and at least two months of membership will earn you a custom avatar. 500 worthwhile posts and at least three months of membership will earn you a custom title. You CANNOT attain these privileges if you have not been promoted.

Was lurking around and saw some mention of exhibitionists on this board. Is that true? If so, who are they and how risque are the posts? I wouldn't mind going there and showing off a little but if I have to wait to long,....

One more. Who are the mods and the admin people? Is there a list somewhere that tells us who is who?

How do you get to the most recent thread?

I seem to be attracted to threads over 2 years old. How do I get to more recent (like right now, today, yesterday) type threads? Gracias!

Poppinjay 03-01-2006 02:01 PM

At the top of the page, you will see a NEW POSTS link, which will take you to the most currently active threads.

Though sometimes bumping up an old thread can be very interesting.

amonkie 03-01-2006 02:04 PM

Carl614 When you click on a forum, scroll down to the bottom and make sure your options is set to "Descending by last post". This will ensure the most recent threads are at the top of the list for you.

percy 03-03-2006 07:19 AM

Thanks spectre. Now that I know who the mods, super mods and admins are I am quickly learning who the members are since I keep on opening their personal profiles by clicking their name instead of the checkmark for threads that have no titles. AAARRRRGGGG. Anyways, it's all good.

ok with all joking aside, why is it that you have something to do in another room and then when you get into the room to dont remember what it is until twenty minutes later when your doing something else.

This is usually a result of the tendency in this society to overextend our attention span. Over the last several decades American Culture has changed as a result of socio-economic expansion, to the point where many are forced to Multi-task priorities throughout the day/week. Due to the limited ability of Humans to define these many tasks within the brain, as to where they all fit into the list of neccessities, we tend to Jumble the list at times which can lead to one item or another dropping off the list for a bit.

ash 03-25-2006 08:33 PM

thank you oh wise one, no really i should get you to type my argument paper for me :)

ash 03-26-2006 12:06 AM

new at forums

ok, i am new to the whole forum thing so this may sound stupid to you. when i post a reply and leave the site and then come back, the time i last visited is all screwed up and everything that i posted is not on the site, what am i doing wrong.

tecoyah 03-26-2006 04:17 AM

If you are on a dial up connection....it may be as simple as waiting an extra minute to disconnect from the site. If not, I would place all blame on the spooky effect Einstein used to express interaction on a quantum level. Simply stated he postulates that some aspects of reality are simply too wierd to be explained logically, it wasnt just his Hair that was cool.

If you're looking to remember what it was you came into the room to do, go back to the room where you were, resume doing what you were doing, and it will most likely come back to you. =)

How about a teaser? Other than the "tittie boards" what other kinds of boards are there for full members?

tecoyah 05-20-2006 03:29 PM

There are boards for fun, boards for pun, boards for peeping (those were keeping).
Boards of Skill that test your will, boards with posing, never closing, and boards of frightful delight.....boards in which a few have spent the night.

I love to tease

If a tree falls in the forest, but no creature with any form of audio receptors is nearby, does the tree actually make a sound?....

tecoyah 08-25-2006 05:14 AM

Technically, the biomass we call a tree has indeed succumed to the effects of gravitational attraction, and has thus changed orientation from vertical to horizontal. That the lifeform in question is incapable of audibly registering this phenomenon will in no way reverse, or change the physical aspects of said alteration in landscape. One is required however, to incorporate the perspective of the lifeform into a philisophical interpretation of reality, and understand the relativistic view of this observer. That said, the soundwaves were created regardless of an ability to recieve them, and thus have traveled in all directions outward from the initial impact zone, creating an effect in this physical world whether the waves reached an observer or not.
As no interaction between observer an phenomenon transpired, there is no audible record of the tree falling, yet indeed, the tree did fall. One has merely to walk into the habitat to complete the reqisite observation to verify the position and location of the Biomass. From this we can infer the results of a tree falling in the woods, and imagine what sounds it made as a result.
