I've been on boards where member rating was activated, and it was a mess. members DEMANDED to have it turned back off. it just sucked that bad. I think y'all will just have to read eachothers words, and judge them based on that. as will we mods.

Personally, I am enjoying my time here. I like posting, and if one day I get a little picture, great, but in the meantime, I like the reading. (It is really educational and helps me a great deal. One thing though - I would never log on at work!)

If you actually participate and post your thoughts on forums and such then you'll suceed in becoming active in the community. Simple as that, myself if I have something to add I do, maybe it's not elegant, maybe it's not a graduation speech, but it's my thoughts that relate to the topic.

True interest and activity are what create value on the board. As rushed and busy as I feel sometimes I realize that if I do not make time to post and interact then I am nothing more than a moocher

BWPinAZ, I would love to hear a graduation speech from you. You could start with something like..."First of all, I would like to congratulate everyone for their hard work." Hey, maybe TFP could make a generic graduation speech for when you go from level to level in the world of titles.

guys, i don't know how much clearer i can put this. #1: fuck post counts. THEY ARE NOT IMPORTANT. don't worry about it. I am NOT gonna say "post 50 times and you will get to fuck a star of your choice" so y'all will post 50 times, never to be seen again!

SO: as has been said a million times before, relax, enjoy the boards, and quit worrying bout it!

Rating a user's contribution via the number of posts they make is quite common on a lot of boards.

It's not perfect, but hey, what is?

What I find works best is to rate someone on what they say. There are a lot of people that post a lot here. There are also many that don't. Post count doesn't validate an opinion when it comes to politics or advice. I like watching new members sharing their ideas. It's nice seeing people go from relative obscurity on the boards to becoming a recognized name. And surprisingly, it's not that difficult to do.

That's not quite what I meant. I mean that if you make quality posts over quantity posts, people will know and respect you much more.

This is a very interesting experience for someone who is appraising the merits of joining this community. I realize that the Tilted News thread was shutdown because Halix had exhausted his patience with the subject matter. It is not my intention to re-ignite the conflagration nor join in with the others who have attacked him personally. I have no desire to cross-pollinate these two forums.

I have never experienced the severance of a forum thread before and I wish to address a community member’s response to my post. As a newcomer who has been affronted in public forum, I am unsure of the proper etiquette once a thread has been shut down. Is a private message my only recourse?

not what he meant but think of it this way. If you never post, no one will ever recognize you. You get out what you put in.

In response to the original question (I haven't read all the answers):

This is not a childish board (most of the time, at least). It's not about signs of status. Some of the most interesting, and as I believe, most respected members have few posts, or no avatar, or no funky status tag. It's all about quality.

isn't that what people tell other people with small dicks?

Seriously, it shouldn't really matter what your stupid profile says. People seem to take these things too seriously. I frequent a few chans on DALnet and have for quite a while with no reward system in place at all. Hell, most of the ops in one particular one dislike me because i'm all the time so freaky deaky happy, weirdos. Anyways, my point was, an ideal for chatters on the internet should be happy, intelligent or otherwise fun conversation, not some retarded little phrase you can put under your name.

Priorities mean the world!

I agree with the anti-postwhores. I'm a member at forums with postcount perks and everyone whores until they get to the bonus number and then they level off and post regularly. It's so much better when people just start out posting meaningful stuff. That's my $.02

I didn't see a profile button but I DID see where I could do a search for replies. I did the search and the search turned up 80 but I didn't see where else I could find this.

I hope this isn't one of those "Your pencil is behind your ear, dumbass!" kind of obvious answers but I just didn't see a profile button. (grimace )
