i'm just a tad behind things this year! most of the people i talked are about done with shopping and i have yet to start :crazy:



i have zero clue about what i'm going to buy yet :D

Haven't started at all and probably won't until a week before. Some are getting framed artwork or prints (already gave one via email), still working on a couple of things as well.
Times are really tough this year. I have no idea what to get my nephews-all 7 within 17-24 years of age. The past two years they got tins filled with cookies and sweets, topped with giftcards-don't want to do that yet again, so any suggestions in this area are appreciated as well.

I am ALMOST done.

A hint for the 17-24 year old nephews- I would get them all a nice razor with razor blade refills and a gift card. I love getting razor blades for presents because they are SO expensive to buy and if the person gets me enough of them, I don't have to buy them throughout the year.

Any other good ideas I have- I love getting home-made bath and body sets- not the sets that you can buy pre packaged. Get a nice basket from a store like Cost Plus World Market or even K-Mart and fill it with things like sponges, loofahs, soaps, shampoos, soft slippers, towels, oils and perfumes, and salts. I love things like that. It shows that a lot of work went into it, and you can get a lot of that stuff cheap at WalMart or Dollar General.

Another idea is Choxie- gourmet chocolate sold by Target. I wanted to get everyone some and put it under the tree this year, but my budget probably will not allow it.

Another thing I like receiving is matching glove, scarf, and hat sets- you can never have too many of those! I have tons of them and am always looking for more, but they just get more and more expensive each year.

You can also get a lot of this stuff CHEAP CHEAP CHEAP the day after Xmas and save it for the next year (hint hint!).

To be fair, I don't have that many people to buy for, and I only did it this early to make sure I got everything in time for Christmas. I left it a bit later last year, did the same amazon thing (while I was at work, no less), and was waiting till after new year for a couple of the gifts.

I'm pretty much done...

I only need to get some loafers for my dad, gifts for roommates, and we're pretty much done.

I only need to get something for little brother (I know what I'm getting him and where I'm getting everything) granda (No idea!) and for Simon's mum and dad (I have a basic idea of what I'd like to get them.

Everyone else has been bought for.

I just really need to work on Christmas cards now. :)

I got about 4 of the presents this past summer on different sales when I found things that I knew certain family members would like. I think all total I paid $15. One of the things was a set of handmade/handpainted ceramic Christmas ornaments - Hubby's Mom is TOTALLY into decorating and her tree is so covered with ornaments that you can't see the tree for the ornaments.

I have 4 more people that I have to buy for - but I just may make a big plate of cookies and treats for Grandpa. He's loaded with the money and needs NOTHING but he doesn't do a lot of cooking or baking for himself and he LOVES my peanut brittle. I made a batch of brittle one year that flopped and didn't harden. Between my Mom and Grandpa they ate the whole batch of goo in abuot 2 days. Talk about sugar high.

So I'm about halfway through my Christmas gifts and haven't spent even $50 total yet.

Shesus and I have been out a couple of times already, but something strange happens each time we go out. We end up buying stuff for ourselves instead. Eventually, we'll make it out and buy stuff for other people.

I had my Christmas shopping finished by mid-November until it was decided last week that we were going to do a gift-exchange at work. So I went to the mall last Thursday and did my gift-exchange shopping. Now I should be finished with this year's Christmas shopping for good.

I love HMV for Christmas shopping deals. Can almost always find something. I hate Christmas shopping in itself though. Next time, I'm doing it a month earlier.

Fuck man, I've only got like 3 or 4 people's presents and I'm only half way through. I doubt that I'm gonna get finished since the other half on the list of people hasn't even bothered telling me what they want for xmas or even bothered making a list too.

I got all my shopping finished yesterday thanks to a spout of illness, boredom, and the internet. I got copies of the Bunny Suicides for my niece and nephew which is the present that I have bought that I most want to keep for myself. Everything else is just tat that wasn't particularly thoughtful of me.

Ahh consume and die, the rest is all fun.

Still working on it... there was a sample sale in my building and I managed to get two really nice jackets and a scarf for my wife... she is going to love them.

The other gift I am happy with is the t-shirts I am making for my son.

rubyee...I love putting together gift baskets like that. I've given many a basket away for Christmas, and mother and sister in law will be receiving them this year :)

I'm making a lot of gifts this year...due to some financial circumstances we can't afford to give a lot away this year, so relatives and friends (including my dad, who is pretty well off and doesn't need or want "stuff") will be receiving some of hubby's kickass banana bread. The rest of my shopping will be done this Friday, when I get an employee discount at a local store.

I guess I didn't realize how many people I bought gifts for. I had a Christmas party last night for friends, and bought each one of them a small gift. They couldn't believe how many gifts were under my tree. We technically have three families to buy for-

Xmas eve night is his mom, stepdad, sister and her boyfriend, stepsister, and stepbrother. Christmas morn is my dad, stepmom, step and half sisters, grandma, and aunt. Christmas night is my mom, stepdad, sister, sister, niece, aunt, and other grandma. Then we have gifts for eachother, gifts for the cats (only one, but it is the biggest one under there), a gift I need to mail to my friend in Boston, and we still need to buy a gift to mail to his grandma. I didn't realize that that was a lot of people until last night.

I also like to get a lot of little things instead of one big thing for each person. I guess I still like the idea of a big haul.

If you want to get into the really pathetic, we actually have two trees- one of them has all the gifts for Christmas eve night under them so that we don't have to dig for them before we leave and are sure not to miss anything.

Medusa, I love homemade gifts! Unfortunatley I was not able to do any baking so far this year. Even more unfortunate is the fact that I was not able to make myself a bath gift set this year. It may be selfish, but I like to get a couple of things for myself and wrap them under the tree, too. Santa got me a nice loofah this year.

My Mom came by the house today and I noticed her footprints in the snow after she left. This little old lady with bad eyes and osteoporosis was trudging around in rubber soled shoes with out any tread at all!! On ice! And snow!
She was telling my b/f that she wants to buy crampons for walking in the woods (she doesn't really do any uphill or challenging hikes). I went right to Sierra Trading Post dot com and got her a pair of Solomon snow clogs! Cheap! $36. I spent like $80 on mine four years ago. Best shoes ever. Now I can stop worrying about her falling and hurting herself.

I'm not particularly big on Christmas shopping and I place almost no importance on it, so I often end up throwing things together shortly before the date in recognition that it is expected of me. Truth is though, I don't expect anything from other people - and I let them know that when they ask me what I want - and I don't feel obligated to necessarily get things for anyone else. I find the much more enjoyable part of the holidays is spending time with my family and those other people I care about.

Nonetheless, if I know someone is particularly interested in something, I may look for it, or if I come across something I know someone will like and it's at a decent price, I'll get it for them. This year, while I was shopping for books for next semester's classes, I looked at the bargain shelf in our school bookstore as usual. I saw many MANY books priced at $1 (and I still couldn't tell you exactly why because they were new and when I looked on Amazon after getting hom it had the normal prices) and got a few for some people in my family. Turned out to be really good deals too - the book I got my brother is actually priced at $25, for example. I have no issues with spending little to no money on Christmas presents because I simply don't feel they're very important.

(As an aside, situations like the one Manuel Hong described are exactly the type of situations where I would gladly get a present. Even when it comes to the books I got for people, I paid $1 for each of them but I'm quite happy about getting them because I know they will enjoy them. I simply don't often actually go "Christmas shopping.")

Almost done, finishing up this saturday. I've actually found a good deal on the gift for my gf. New winter-coat, daim with mock-fur for $36 (ok, and something else, but that's for my eyes only :p )

She more or less dragged me along to one of those big Christmas shopping markets in Germany, but we got several little gifts out of it.

The best part about Christmas-shopping is that I do it up front, cuz if not, I go bonkers... Can't stand the masses, *especially* while shopping

I already got my mom a new car, and I have to figure out something for my brother in the next couple of weeks. I keep it in the immediate family

I bought 4 outside fireplaces...they were like $40 off, so I snatched them up!
and if you are into wine, I just discovered that "reidel" makes affordable glasses for Target!!!! So, I bought some for my friend.

Just a few more to go. It's been an expensive year, what with our new son, so we won't be spending much: mostly CD's and basic clothing items.
