Do NOT rip people off over the internet.

At this point, with over 1600 posts, the thread has kinda deteriorated, however, the first few pages are well worth the read.

alot of people don't like just clicking on a link, its better to quote the info from the site and also include the link. Also it helps to include more info for actual discussion. Not sure what to discuss here. I think we all can agree that is wrong to rip anyone off in any situation. karma baby.

That's pretty wicked... For those that didn't click the link, A guy named Cdub cashed someone's check for 115$ then didn't send him the an item, well the mods and other users tracked him down, got his address, parent's names, house value pretty much everything, and threatening to post all of his phone number unless he quits bullshitting them.

People seem to think they're anonymous and can just get away with ripping someone off via the net and this guy was proved wrong.

Someone I know scammed someone from Korea into giving him their credit card number. This was to play Lineage. Yes, that is both sad and wrong.

Apparently, the Korean guy managed to get a hold of him. I don't know what happened after that.

AquaFox 11-13-2005 02:47 PM

okay i couldn't read much more than four of those stupid pages

anyone know how this ends? LOL

maleficent 11-13-2005 04:00 PM

... and for anyone who has ever requested that TFP have some forum where people can sell unwanted stuff to other users.... Let them be referred to that thread :)

How it ends? Ihad to jump to page 68 -- MochaMike got his money order - Moderator Matt shouldhave closed down the thread but clearly hasn't yet... some of the more insane users on that site, even crafted a website dedicated to poor Charlie http://www.wenzeled.com/.... Ithink MochaMike called the cops on poor charlie too -- but to be honest I got bored reading..

JumpinJesus 11-13-2005 05:39 PM

This is yet another one of those internet thingies that has gotten way bigger than it deserves. Sure Mr. Wenzel is an ass, but this thing has taken on a useless life of its own.

It was amazing to watch all the new users register wildly and start posting. They're like those imbeciles you see waving their arms wildly outside television studios on their cell phones wanting everyone to see them.

And the website you posted, mal? I imagine it getting hit after hit after nutty hit for about a month, then no one caring at all about it.

I will admit, though, that it was a fun read until it became a circus.

p-p-p-powerbook!

Grasshopper Green 11-13-2005 07:26 PM

I had to try a few times to get on...and after seeing how many forums this has been posted to, I'm guessing it's because the site was crashing.

I'm sure glad I'm not in that kids shoes. It really, really must suck to be him right now. If there is such a thing as karma...this is it.

Usually this works, brian. I don't know if you followed the link or not, but the last I checked it was a forum thread about 70 pages long. I don't think quoting would work so well in this case. :p

apparently, upon further reading, it appears that many people from the forum have been calling this kid and harassing him. Now, if you get into the whole soap opera of what's going on there, he essentially brought it on himself.

They posted his home phone, home address, parents home phone and address, his employer's information, his yearbook photos, google earth images of his house - you name it, they dug and got all his information and posted it for all to see.

This thing seems to be taking on a life of its own now. It's still ongoing as well.

The site is pretty much farked, though, since its become so popular.

Especially since some of us have to turn off our spyware protection in order to access the link.

Well guys........ I'm both Happy & Sad.....

The first he didn't lie (1st & only time) about sending the money.

I got a Western Union money order from 7-11 today from Charlie.

As far as I'm concerned, the situation is finished (provided the MO is good).

Thanks to everyone for your help....... Especially to MattS.

And to Charlie..........

This kid certainly got more than he bargained for in his rip off attempt. I think he will be carefull how he conducts himself around those 4x4 guys in the future.

Getting ripped off on internet transactions is nothing new but people who do so should be very careful to hide their identities if possible. There are some very crazy people out there and you do not want to become one of their targets as the following link shows. It is a long story so to sum it up: Some kid ripped off a guy on some radio equipment and shortly after a packege bomb killed him and crippled his mother.
Murder by Internet

Am I the only one who keeps getting asked for a username and password on the site you've linked?

they probably changed it from yesterday. in a few hrs, they went from 60 to 72 pages. i think it was at 80 when i went to bed.

in the end, it was pretty useless. you're not missing much more than what was said.

this is just as good as the powerbook fiasco over at somethingawful. VERY entertaining, I about popped some popcorn while reading it. the best part is when they find the initial information about the guy and post it on the thread. HILARIOUS.
