Thank You.....

To all those who fight in my place, for the bravery shown in the actions of my protectors, and for the willingness of many men and women to place precious life on the line, in unselfish love of country.

Well said, tecoyah.
Apparently, others view this day more with shame than pride. Unfortunate.

Happy Veterans Day

And the award to the only person trying to turn a day of solemn remembrance into a political attack goes to....

During World War II my grandfather (a young Dutch gentleman) was taken prisoner by the Germans and held in a forced labor camp in Germany, welding locomotives. Eventually he escaped (with the help of a Swedish consul) and made it back to the Netherlands. There, in his home country, he camped in the dunes with other members of the resistance movement.

Were it not for the American soldiers who drove the German occupying forces out of the Netherlands, who knows what would have happened to my family--my grandfather probably would have been recaptured, among other things. But the fact is that the American soldiers came and helped the Dutch people--something many Dutch are still grateful for to this day, myself included.

We owe a great debt to the soldiers who put their lives on the line so we may live our lives freely.

Thank you very much for what you do and what you have done.

Seconded. I don't think there's anything much more profound I add.

Thank You.

I thank every veteran today, but especially the great men in my life...my grandpa, Uncle Tim, hubby, brother in law Tony, and good friend Mike. We all owe you so much.

Cynthetiq 11-11-2005 06:57 PM

an important day for many people and their surviving families.

There was an article I read today about the "trivializing of WWII" due to the recent video games using it as a backdrop. War isn't just a PS2/Xbox game... it's real life.

I am fortunate that I was in between my grandfather who served in World War II and my own son who is now a veteran himself. Or more accurately I suppose in between those who served us well in my grandfather’s time and those that serve us now. While I could personally call my son today and thank him, I would like to thank all the veterans who may find their way across this thread.

Thank you all for your service. Dave I still miss you and am proud to have been counted as your friend. You died a hero in the eyes of your country, your family, your friends and your fellow soldiers. Your Dad would have been proud of you, just as i know your little brother Sean is. You will never be forgotten.
