Poll
If you read part or all of this thread vote "Yes" to the poll.
I was just reading the "Average TFP member age...?" (http://www.tfproject.org/tfp/showthr...&threadid=9483) and several people were wondering why so many members would view the thread but select their age and click submit. This is just a little experiment to see how many people will vote in the poll and how many people will just read and pass it over. I also want to see how many people will vote No (when they obviously read part of the thread) I hope the results are interesting. |
I voted no even though I read the whole thing.
I knew that someone would.
read and voted yes.
There are many reasons why someone may vote but not comment.
1) They don't want their opinion to be publicly known but would like its representation in the poll. 2) Other comments already summarized what they would have said and they chose not to post "me too" 3) They don't see the need to make a post with nothing but their age Just to name a few. |
I know that there are many reasons why someone would vote and not comment, what i was interested in seeing was how many members view a thread with a simple poll question that is applicable to them but don't vote or comment.
Just interesting to see. |
Isn't this the type of thing we have tilted nonsense for?
Yes, I should have posted this in nonsense but I clicked new thread while I was reading the "Average TFP member age...?" (http://www.tfproject.org/tfp/showth...=&threadid=9483) thread in the Genereal Discussion section.
If a Moderator wants to move it, that's fine with me (not that I would have a choice if they did want to move it). I think this could develop into discussion. For example, there are only 14 votes yet there are 45 views. Why is that? |
I voted yes. But the concept doesn't work if people check the thread again to see what other people wrote...
i read just enough to make a vote :P
Read the whole thing, Dont know why...Honestly this expiriment doesnt make a whole lot of sense to me....
I just like taking polls.:)
maybe some people honestly don't care enough to vote. i read all of this and voted yes though.
perhaps because a view is logged each time the page loads. you view the page once. one view. you vote in the poll and the page reloads. another view. you write a response and post it. another view. you realize you fucked up and edit that post, another view. you check it back later to see how it's doing. another view. you're bored so you reload the page to see how your poll is going. another view.
just imagine everyone doing this and you soon realize why number of views to the number of actual responses/votes isn't really all that accurate. |
yes what?
Now if only we could separate teh number of people who viewed it from the number of views ...
no thanks - not today...
read and voted
*smile* I voted and posted... looks like we've got a discussion going too... *smile* I'll be back...
This is an interesting concept for a poll. Obviously, I voted just to prove that I can follow instructions.
phredgreen, that is even more sad. Maybe that means that there are only about 50 of us who actually post (vote/comment) on TFP on an ongoing basis.
Where is everyone else? |
I don't get this.
I smiled when I saw this. Had to stop by and mark my little spot.
Quite often if there's a poll I'll just vote but not comment, the only time I don't vote is if there's no option that applies to me or whatever... I voted yes.
I voted yes... at first I wanted to vote no even though I read it but then I read on and found someone else did already :(
i read it, voted "no" anyway. heh. that was before i read how it was an experiment, though, so there you go.
I refuse to vote unless you give me one of those little stickers that say...I VOTED TODAY!!:D
My cursor vote yes... i abstained
Ha! I read it all and I refuse to be a number!!!! I am not a number, I am a free man! I no vote. Shit, now I'm a number.
Read and voted here... why... no idea...
I voted, then read, just because...
You want to see how many people vote "no"?
Do you ENJOY playing mind games with contrarians.:) |
Regarding the age thing, I did just the opposite. I commented but didn't vote. I wanted to explain. It takes all kinds.
I read all and now i am blind.
I was initially attracted by the subject "Poll:Poll" Voted & posted.
I voted no, for two reasons. One, to be an ass, and two, because it said to vote yes...I'm a rebel, I tell ya...a rebel!

I voted no, even though I did read every post to this thread. Just felt like being a little different. :) |

what's even worse is how people will check back on this thread to see what others have written and how the poll is going, increasing an artificial view count even further. i assure you, never judge a thread by its view count. |
Just a little update
(I should have updated this sooner as it is almost two years since the last comment) 309 views 37 Posts But only 74 votes. I wonder if phredgren was right that it may just be about 30 of us coming back here plus the 44 other people who voted that made the number of view bump up to 309. Or do poeple view and refuse to weigh in on such a simple poll? |
i voted yes, but i only read a little of this thread.
