Basically, it's a pretty simple question, where do you shop for 30-40 dollar shirts, and polo's? I myself am a fan of the "vintage" look, and AE offers the best quality for the price.

Stores I don't much care for are Abercrombie(cause I'm not rich) and Aeropostale(cause their quality is shit).

Express for men offers some decent stuff occasionally, but also, they are usually quite pricey.

I like some of the stuff from AE and Abercrombie(jeans)... but even though it has a good look... it is way way way over priced for a shirt.

40bucks for a Tee is dumb.

If you like "vintage" go to a Good Will, faded/damaged jeans are really nicely priced there as well...

I am a Purchasing Agent, by trade. As such, vendors (and potential vendors) give me shirts, and whatnot, with their logos on 'em.
A recent "inventory" of my closet revealed a startling shortage of shirts that didn't have some company's logo or another.
I think...I may need to go shopping.

I'd say 90% of my shirts come from Kholes or however its spelled. I am thinking of getting a couple nice 'clubbing' type shirts one of these days but its hard to spend a lot of money on somethng that will end up smelling like someones second hand smoke.

Pretty sure Hollister is Abercrombie's evil younger sibling. Abercrombie pisses me off to no end, how can someone in their right mind pay $100+ dollars for a pair of jeans that are torn/faded/and have paint stains on them.

I just got this ridiculously cool Burgundy dress shirt for $20. Put that with a $10 pinstripe jacket from Goodwill, and it's sheer sexyness.

A & F and Hollister clothe lines are both owned by Abercrombie and Fitch. Hollister was brought about in June 2000.

Abercrombie's new brand, Hollister, is more of a surf and skate-oriented venture.

AE is pretty much the least expensive store in that segment (without dropping to the level of aeropostale and less expensive dept stores) with the exception of the gap. I don't think you'll find much else in that price range.

AE has been skewing towards a younger market, and i'm getting older... don't go in their often anymore.

hollister is nice... but also younger and more expensive.
abercrombie... i don't shop there on principle
j crew... nice stuff,expensive
gap... i like the gap, i don't care what people say.
banana republic... top notch clothing, high prices
express... often too metrosexual for my tastes
pac sun... younger/skater stuff, but if you look closely they'll have a few items that might be in your target range

It's kind of hit or miss - depending on what stock they get in that week - but try marshalls or tj maxx - you often have to dig thru the rubble, (I've yet to see a store that is kept neatly) but you can often find good quality, sometimes designer stuff at really good prices.

I usually only buy stuff when it's on sale or I really like it. T-shirts and polos shouldn't cost more than $35 and even that's too expensive, in my opinion.

In my city there are a few stores that sell AE type things at substantially reduced prices (like Winners) also, there are a couple places that do the same thing except with designer clothes- but these are in the 45-60+ range, canadian. Look around for local stores that do this sorta thing. Not only are ya supporting your community, but you're getting cheaper prices then at the chain stores

for vintage stuff, lands end has some really classically cut men's shirts, stuff like that. quality is fantastic...they're the kind of clothes that never look the fanciest, but last for freaking ever. i usually get their high thread count trim cut shirts for my basic colors, and express for widening the palette.

I buy my solid dress shirts at Brooks Brothers. They are around $40 - $50, and they are the highest quality shirts I've ever bought. I actually buy all my boxers there as well for the same reason. The price is a little higher, but the quality is top-notch and the clothes last forever. I'm sure my choice of where to shop dates me, but I love the clothes.

We've got 'em in California, in spades. I usually get my clothes at http://www.bbclothing.co.uk/. A might bit expensive, and you can't use $ (*£ only), but they have a decent selection.

We have Hollister here in Salt Lake, and I like their things, but they can be a bit pricey for me. I have to agree with Maleficent..if they have a Marshalls where you live, go there. There is a lot of good stuff there, you just have to search for it. I've found that TJ Maxx and Ross has less of the good quality stuff, but I've never looked in their mens department, so it might be worth a shot.

Some people have suggested garage sales; the last couple of weeks I've gone to 20 or 30 and I haven't seen much, if any, men's clothing. Tons of clothing for women or children, but very little for grown men. Can somebody explain that to me?

"High-end" thrift stores are a good place to look, especially the places that separate out the premium stuff in a particular area. Some Salvation Army stores do that. I scored a ~$150 suede leather jacket in perfect condition for $40 bucks in the premium section of the SA a couple of weeks ago.

Stores that sell overruns and end-of-season surplus fashions are a great way to go, because they often have the best brands at 40-60 percent off. But their stock varies week by week, and to do well by them you have to come back every so often to see what's there, as at a flea market. I like Ross Dress for Less a lot -- never pay more than $15-20 for a new, name-brand men's dress shirt or for name brand slacks or jeans -- but you don't have them in Ohio. I'm sure you've got something like that, though.

Of course, if you want _real_ traditional clothing, go with Ben Davis :-)

I buy most of my stuff at a place called Rue 21. My sister worked there and said that their stuff comes from the same place as Abercrombie. I can find polos for around $15 and jeans for around $25.

My theory is that guys keep their clothes until either: 1) they die, 2) their wives or S/Os sell them or give them away because they are so sick of seeing them. Also, fashion trends for men tend to move more slowly than women's trends. That's why you might see lots more ladies garments, but everything is out of style.

Anyway, I like Express for men, but can't fit my long arms into any of their cookie-cutter sized shirts. I usually find custom-tailored or altered shirts after combing any of the 10 thrift stores in my area (and I assume most of the clothes I find once belonged to some guy who is now either really fat or dead).

Where in ohio are you at ? There should be a Gabriel Bros somewhere near you...They're located in virginia, west virginia, OH, PA, and around in that area. They're a discounted name brand cloth store - they have AE, express, levi, gap, and a few other name brands too - it's good stuff.

I did my back-to school shopping there: bought 9 pieces of clothes [jeans, dress shirts, other goodies] for $85 - good deal Besides the various thrift shops and L.L. Bean [as mentioned, but pricey] , I'd highly recommend to check the GB too...
