Some people don't need to own pets

Stuff like this is REALLY starting to tick me off....

yesterday this story was in the news

Quote:
A local woman was trying to help some dogs left in a car and ended up getting fired.

Valerie Cheathem was the assistant manager of precious jewelry at Neiman Marcus in Buckhead.

"Two of my co-workers and a police officer were pointing out the window saying two dogs were locked in car on the parking," said Cheatham.

Cheathem says it was 90 degrees that day. She got the number for animal control and went to write down the tag number on the black BMW, when she realized the sun roof was open and decided to get some water to the dogs.

"Because the car was so tall, I could not reach inside. So, I took off my shoes and got on the hood. That's when the owner came out, yelling screaming cursing."

The owner of the dogs, Ramona Lindsey, said Cheathem damaged her $80,000 car. She complained about Cheathem's actions to store managers and filed a police report.

In the police report, the officer says other customers complained of seeing the dogs in the car. Atlanta Humane Society officials say even with the sunroof open, the temperature in a car can climb to 105 degrees in under five minutes.

Lindsey, who says she spends thousands of dollars a year at the store, says she was trying on clothes for between 15 and 40 minutes. Cheathem was fired for improper behavior.

11Alive asked Neiman Marcus to comment on Cheathem's firing. A corporate spokesman says they do not comment on personnel issues.

then there was this one

Quote:
A woman who spent the past two decades rescuing animals faced a judge in Clayton County Wednesday on charges she harmed her own dog.

Patricia Siems, the president of All Dog and Cat Rescue Angels in Lawrenceville, was arrested in Forest Park Tuesday by authorities who say she left her dog in a hot vehicle for more than two hours.

Siems was attending a Georgia Companion Animal Advisory Board meeting when members of the Department of Agriculture's animal control section parked next to her and spotted the animal alone in the car.

The animal control officers tested the car's temperature at 103 degrees, waited for Siems to return to her vehicle and arrested her on a charge of one count of animal cruelty.

Siems said she left the meeting three times in two-and-a-half-hours to run the car's air conditioning for her dog, Hank, and to give him water. She also said she left the windows down halfway.

“She is 200 percent for the animals, she went to check on Hank three times, turned on the air conditioning, she gave him water, he was not in distress,” said Patricia Dougherty, a friend of Siems. “If you could have seen him when he got out of the car, he was rolling over, sitting, doing tricks for everybody.

Dr. Gloria Dorsey of the Atlanta Humane Society said a pet’s life is at risk when left inside a car. “You’re looking at the potential for brain injury, or even death,” she said.

Dougherty said Siems’ actions were a result of “bad judgment.”

“This woman has done more for the rescue committee, more for animals than most people I know,” she said.

Siems was released after posting bond.

If convicted, Siems would likely have her license to operate a shelter revoked.

Yesterday Dave and I went to Barnes and Noble to do some shopping, when we got out of the car, there was a car next to us with all the windows rolled up...you could hear a dog yelping inside it.....we had a heat index of 105 degrees yesterday.

What the hell are these people thinking? They "love" their pet enuff to take them with them during the day, going somewhere they know full well where they will have to stay in the car IN HEAT LIKE THIS?!?!?

I really really really wanted to find the owner of that car and smack the hell out of them...While I was walking around B & N I was talking to Dave about the "idiot" who must hate animals enuff to leave them in an oven while they enjoyed their shopping in a nice air conditioned place. UGH

I cant BELIEVE these people actually think they arent doing anything wrong!!!!

Some people are just assholes, period. Lock the owners up in their car instead a hot day and see what they'll think of it after that...

I hate, hate..HATE people like this..(Where's the emoticon of a brick being smashed through a face? It fits here).

People that abuse animals like this and physically deserve the most brutal painful death imaginable.

I have never seen an animal locked in a steaming hot car or being smacked around by it's owners..If i ever do, I would probably lose my mind.

I don't see too many animals locked up in cars, but I do see an inordinate amount of dogs tied up in the back of pickup trucks (I live in the center of the beat-up, junker pick-up universe.)

A friend of mine (real big animal rights fanatic) had business cards made up to leave under the wiper. Usually something witty tinged with acidic sarcasm.

I see dogs in cars ALL THE TIME. I used to hae some things to stick under the windshield, but I'm not sure were they went. And once I had a guy grab it, read it, and say "whatever." Like someone would go to all that trouble just to piss him off...

Tied in the back of a pick-up truck isn't any better...I've seen/heard too many stories of dogs jumping out when the car is stopped and hanging themselves, or even worse, jumping out when the car is moving and geting into all kinds of bad stuff.

I can't abide people abusing animals. I haven't seen a dog in a car for ages, but I am not sure I could resist kicking out the window.

I would just call the police on them. I had a neighbor who used to shoot the dogs with a pellet gun if they would bark. One night we caught him hitting the dogs with a shovel and called the police on him. Fucking maniac.

Wow, that's insane. I don't really ever see much outright abuse of animals, but when I used to live at the parents' house, the neighbors had a dog they left outside 24 hours a day, they never even paid any attention to it. It's not abuse, but it was definitely neglect.

I just don't see the point of having a pet if you're not going to take care of it or even acknowledge its existence.

My uncle once ran into a guy beating the crap out of a dog. He was like, "What the hell are you doing?" They guy told my uncle to take the dog or else he would snap its neck. We had a new dog. He was afraid of everything for at least a year. Never did get over a fear of thunder or fireworks. He lived a very very happy 3 years with us before he died of stomach complications.

I dont know what became of the asshole as I was not around when my uncle ran into him.

I will never lock an animal inside a car. I now know what it feels like when it is 120 degrees and I dont have fur....
