One day I will be...

Today I was talking with the wife and I told her something about "when I was kid". Then I asked her, "I'm not really a kid anymore, am I?"
"Not really."
"Then what am I?"
"An adult?"
"I'm a man!" That's the point when we both giggled and the conversation ended.

I spend a LOT of time thinking about what I might do with my life. Here's a short list of what I am mulling over:
  • A vice president of a giant corporation
  • A grad student in an MBA program
  • An expatriot - anywhere but here almost
  • An author
  • Self confident

What are you gonna be one day?

analog 08-21-2005 12:23 AM

A famous screenwriter or director... or maybe just locally famous for saving lives as an EMT paramedic... both would make me happy... both are passions...

FatFreeGoodness 08-21-2005 04:43 AM

We asked our son what he was going do when he grew up. He said “I’m not sure, but I am going to make enough money to enjoy it before I get too old.”
I said “Better yet, why don’t you make enough money so we can enjoy it before we get too old?”
He said “I think it’s already too late for that.”

Johnny Pyro 08-21-2005 05:05 AM

I would like to be a director. I love movies! A horror movie director. I would also like to be a rockstar! Who wouldn't!

Those are my pipedreams. In reality I want to do something with computers or maybe be a cop. Ya, a cop with fourteen tattoos, that should go over good.

I can't work at the factory anymore. A piece of me dies everday I waste there. *SIGH*

connyosis 08-21-2005 05:19 AM

I have no grand plans for my future. Getting a nice job, marrying and getting kids. I'm happy with that. (Maybe those are grand plans in their own way)

Why can't you do both... think of the stories you will encounter as an EMT.

Sue 08-21-2005 05:30 AM

One day I'm gonna be an ultrasound technician, making good money, having a nice place to live, and an awesome guy :D

la petite moi 08-21-2005 06:35 AM

One day I will be good enough for my parents. They will see that I don't need 15 years in school to become something worthwhile that makes plenty of money and ives me plenty of happiness.

Grasshopper Green 08-21-2005 06:38 AM

One day I will have a job that doesn't deal with the mindless public, be happy with my body, and have my own small aviary in my own home (although, I've already started on this one). Oh, and be a world traveler (I've barely started this one too).

thatoneguy 08-21-2005 06:43 AM

One day I'll finally finish school and get my Master's of Engineering and then get a great job, then I won't have to be a poor student anymore :)

Marvelous Marv 08-21-2005 06:48 AM

Retired, and no longer required to deal with whiners, asshats, government regulations, and full-blown idiots.

Guess that means I'll be a recluse.

Thanks for the chuckle.

maleficent 08-21-2005 06:53 AM

One day I will live up to my own expections for myself.

Pragma 08-21-2005 07:55 AM

One day I'll finish all this damned schooling, get a job that I enjoy (involving some travel and a decent salary), and spend my spare time playing with sportscars. Something tells me it might take a while to get a networking job that pays that much money, though.

tecoyah 08-21-2005 08:00 AM

Enlightened....then a holistic healer

Then quite dead

Stiltzkin 08-21-2005 08:17 AM

Actually, I'd like to be an astronaut. Not because it's one of those cliché things that kids say when they're five years old, or because it's one of those "American Dream" type jobs--no. It's for the simple fact that I'm obessed with outer space, and I just want to get as close to the stars as humanly possible within my lifetime.

You really hit home w/ that one LPM, I used to feel the exact same way. As life went on I slowly began to realize that until I was good enough for me, I could never be good enough for them.

Now back to the topic, All I really wanna be, is my kids dad. Yes I have goals, dreams, and desires but if I have to sacrifice what really matters to me to attain them, then I don't want them.

healer 08-21-2005 09:31 AM

One day I will be a complete person.

Zeraph 08-21-2005 10:29 AM

One day I will thrive on what used to drain.

Sage 08-21-2005 10:33 AM

One day I'll be able to look back at my life and say "you know, I did everything that I wanted to do, and I'm totally happy with the way I did it!"

Karby 08-21-2005 02:23 PM

dead.
eventually.
but until that happens, i think i'll just set my sights on being happy.

ShaniFaye 08-21-2005 03:24 PM

when I was younger I would have said

One day I will be a great romance novelist

now....One day I will be able to sleep past 4 am...which will probably mean Im dead

ngdawg 08-21-2005 03:30 PM

not unhappy and quite unconfused

shesus 08-21-2005 03:37 PM

I'm tired of saying "one day" and one day I will stop...

However, I have met my goals so I guess I should set my new ones.
My goals were:
Be a teacher
Move to a large city
Get my Master's degree with a 4.0 :D
Marry a man who is not only a lover, but also my best friend
Become confident

Those have all been met, so I guess now I will just be for a little bit and set up more "One day" goals later.

meembo 08-21-2005 04:04 PM

I've been a dad, and I've loved it.

The only other thing I want to do is be a missionary somewhere when my kids are out of the house. I've enjoyed more than my share of the riches of the world.

Siege 08-21-2005 07:53 PM

Be happy.

Oh, and a non virgin. But one step at a time

tspikes51 08-21-2005 08:31 PM

-Married to a beautiful, intelligent, and fun girl (they're about as rare as raw meat).
-Playing music for people, hopefully for money, but maybe not.
-The owner of a fast car of some sort.
-Able to afford taking said car to the track every week or so.
-Financially stable enough that my wife won't have to work a day in her life if she doesn't want to.
-Standing next to a life-size statue of Mr. Peanut that adorns a special room in the house.

ryfo 08-21-2005 10:23 PM

One day I will be confident enough within myself to know that what I do i do well

5757 08-21-2005 10:38 PM

Happier. I hope.

bad jane 08-21-2005 10:45 PM

as a kid, when i grew up what i really wanted to be was a waitress. i have no idea why, but that is what i wanted to do with my life. not so sadly, i never achieved that goal. :) nothing against those who do it--but knowing people who worked in that industry, ugh--i would so not have enjoyed it!

my goals have changed so much in the last few years. the only thing that has really remained constant is the desire to surround myself with people i love, who love me back and take advantage of whatever opportunities come my way. there are lots of things i don't have that i want, but overall, i really am happy with my life. i'd love to have "more" but i can't complain--i consider myself very blessed.

denim 08-22-2005 03:52 AM

One day, I'll give up on trying to find someone else, give up hope (cruel stuff, that), and be happier.

BigBen 08-22-2005 06:54 AM

My teacher in grade 9 made us sit down and write a letter to ourselves on the first day.

I remember my letter very well:

I was preoccupied with finding the whistle to get to the 7th(8th?) level in Legend of Zelda.

I was also in love with a girl, Bonnie. She did not know I existed.

I was scared about not making friends and being not cool.

At the end of the year, the teacher gave us our letters back and I remember thinking "THE WHISTLE?!?! Oh my god, that is so lame. Of course it is under the waterfall."

And I was infatuated with a different girl. About 10 different girls, if I remember correctly.

I think that I will write myself another letter. A top 10 list is very cool, but I have done that before and haven't achieved more than the first couple of things (including 'get beer' and 'grow a beard')

I am happy with myself, and the things that I have accomplished. Yes, I would like to do more, and am planning on doing some very cool things soon. For those that have read most of my posts, you will realize that most of the time I am happy just being alive and in one piece.

I am truly grateful.

Post Script: I would also like to be a director, but I have been on a movie set, and don't think that I could take the pressure. I would keep thinking to myself "This is costing me about a thousand bucks an hour!"

streak_56 08-22-2005 07:37 AM

Paramedic and self fulfilled, I've got one out of the two already

snowy 08-22-2005 08:11 AM

One day I will be a stay-at-home mom. One day I will be a high school English teacher. One day I will publish a travel narrative. One day my dad will stop hassling me, because there will be nothing left for him to hassle me about.

One day I will be happy, not feel crazy, and be content with that.

mystmarimatt 08-22-2005 08:42 AM

A 7-year old mystmarimatt and his best friend.

M: "One day, I'm going to be an Astronaut!"
D: "Really? An Astronaut? Wow! That's sounds scary!"
M: "Yeah!"
D: "I'd sure miss you if you went to space."
M: "You would?"
D: "Yeah..."
M: "Well...May not an Astronaut..."
D: "Then what?"
M: "I dunno."
D: "What about a fireman? You could drive the truck! That'd be fun!"
M: "Naw. I wouldn't be good at that."
D: "Yes, you would!"
M: "Nuh uh."

Pause.

D: "I know what you'll be."
M: "What?"
D: "You can be my husband!"

mystmarimatt smiles at D. D grabs his hand and they continue walking.

Kubz18 08-22-2005 09:22 AM

when i was younger i always told my parents that i wanted to be a pro golfer...and the best part was my reason about why i wanted to be one

i said "because its the only sport where you can finish last place and get paid"

5757 08-22-2005 10:23 AM

...

That one day is TOday and I am feeling better.
^^^^^
Why cant I get that in the color, rather than having the name of the color off to each side???

frogza 08-22-2005 10:43 AM

One day:
I will be a well known (and highly paid :p) illustrator of childrens books
I will have discovered a new species of lizard.
I will have visited every continent, except Antartica.
I will be fluent in at least 5 languages.
I will open a community center that will provide job training and certification to provide a leg-up for those who need it.

Martian 08-22-2005 11:18 AM

What I'd like to be:
-happily married
-a father (joing the chorus on this one I think)
-someone who never has to worry about where my rent money's going to come from
-happy

I don't care about being successful or well known or any of that. I don't want to be fabulously rich. Enough money to live in reasonable comfort, married to and living with the girl I love with some children. That's all I need.

I used to harbour a dream of being a successful automotive customizer, in the mould of Chip Foose or Troy Trepanier, before life got in the way.

mandy 08-26-2005 02:36 AM

one day i want to be:
*a journalist who would possess the qualities to be...
-informed
-perceptive
-accurate
-FAIR
-smart
and
-widely knowledgable

cos these are the qualities that separate the people who report the news from the GREAT journalists.
