So I'm selling my Dad's car ...
Some of you may recall that my father past away this past December. As a part of bringing closure to his estate I am trying to sell his Cadillac DeVille.
Well get a load of this email exchange ![]() I'm interested to know if any of you have ever seen anything like this? > Blackthorn, > > I am pleased to inform you that after deliberating with my client who > just contacted me now based on the state of the car in the description > you gave me plus that of the ad, he has finally accepted your > price, hopes the engine is serviced and oil changed as he cant wait to > see the car parked in his garage. > > However,My client made out a certified cashiers check of($40,000) > before he travelled to london on a business trip, for a previous car > and its shipment charges etc,but it was unfortunately sold. The amount > on the check he deposited for the car is bigger than what should be > paid to you now, so the check is now meant for the total expenses > which includes the purchase of your car,the pick up of the car from > its present location and the shipping charges/other necessary shipping arrangements. > > However he has instructed us to carry on with this transaction; but > due to company policy this check has to be made out in this amount to > you because company policy only allows a refund payment on one cashier > check. So you're required to deduct the cost of your car ($30,295)and > send the balance > of($9,705) to my client via western union money transfer or money gram > tranfer to enable him offsett shipping charges/arrangements. > > After payment has reached you and balance sent back to him, our agent > will come for the pick up on an open vehicle and then drive to a pre > paid shipper for shipment, and also conclude other necessary shipping > arrangement so you dont have to bother yourself about the pick up and > shipping arrangements, while title papers and other necessary documets > will be sent by you to my client. > > Please Confirm this and provide FULL NAME,ADDRESS and PHONE NUMBER for > check payment to be delivered to you. > > Thanks for your time and co-operation and God bless, > > Joe. > > Below is my reply to good ol Joe to which I thought there was no way I'd ever hear back from him but stay tuned... there is more! On to my reply: Greetings Joe, Wow! Thanks for finding a willing buyer for this exceptional car. This sounds almost too good to be true but your client is really getting a great value for our agreed price of $30,295. Since the car is estate owned my attorney will be handling the transaction. In the interest of trying to make this transaction as simple as possible I recommend that you, on behalf of your client, sort out the issue with the certified funds. If you could confirm that you will be able to deliver a certified check in the amount of $30,295 to my attorney I will ensure that he is prepared to complete the title transfer to your client on your behalf. If this is not possible for any reason I will still be willing to complete this transaction in the manner you describe but only after we receive the $40,000 in certified funds from your client. The money will have to go into the estate of my father and be verified as such by my attorney. Following this we will be happy to accommodate the return of the credit difference of $9,705 through a certified check payable out of my father's estate sent via priority, certified mail to either you or your client. The mechanics of either of the above scenarios are agreeable to all parties involved in my father's estate. We are ready to proceed in either manner you feel appropriate for your client's circumstances but again we will look to you to confirm the approach you would like to take. Upon confirmation from you of your desired approach given one of the two scenarios above I will put you in contact my attorney and authorize him to proceed accordingly. Thank you again for bringing us a buyer for this vehicle! Your client will enjoy this car for many years to come. Best Regards, -Blackthorn

This is the "Nigerian" email scam, like Cynthetiq said. There are many variations, some including a "distant, related-by-marriage" relative has deceased and to inherit his fortune (anywhere from 50,000-millions of dollars) you have to send a similar "fee."
Back off immediately! My best friend's cousin's family got duped by it, his stepdad eventually quitting his job when he received a fake check in the mail for 8 million dollars, only to get the authorities after him when the bank caught sight of it.

You're a smart guy Blackthorn, so you spotted this as a scam, and have decided to play a little bit.. but people like this deserve way more worse than someone playing with them...
tarring and feathering is too good for people who would take advantage of someone like this dude is 'trying' to do to you... Put that delightfully evil mind to work... ![]()
