I feel like walking in front of a bus...
Today was a crappy day at work, lots of bitchy people on the phone, and I just wasn't feeling it. I left a little early, as I'd been working OT today and gave the girl I've been seeing a call. To cheer up, I took her out to dinner and a show in downtown austin.
Dinner was fine, and the show was good, although the band seriously needed an intervention with its addiction to distortion pedals. When we got outside, I put my arm around the girl and walked to my car. Well, I walked to where I had parked my car. It was gone. The cars on both sides of it were still there, but it was gone. I freaked out. I called the police, and gave them the plate numbers, and they said it hadn't been reported being towed, so they would send an officer out. So there I am, sitting in disbelief when a guy came up to me, trying to sell me weed. I told him no, I don't smoke, although I was seriously contemplating it at the moment, and explained that my car had just been stolen. He laughed and said it hadn't been stolen, he'd watched a dude in a tow truck pull up, hook up to it, and drive away. He even gave me the name of the tow truck. So I call the towing company, and yeah they have my car. They didn't know it by the make and model as I'd expect, but when i said it was the only car in the lot with out-of-state plates, they said they did have it. Bleh. They told me it would be $156.89 to get it out of the lot. I went to the nearest ATM, luckily only a block away and withdrew the amount I'd need to get it out, plus 20 bucks for a cab. This left my bank balance at -$12.56. Thank god for automatic overdraft protection. Unfortunately I got paid this morning, and had paid rent already counting on the rest of my check to get me thru the week. Whatever. I got a cab and went to the towing place, and other than them giving me shit because I didn't have exact change (I had to give them an extra $0.11), getting my car out was pretty painless. On the way home I was just getting into a better mood, as I had my car back and although this was gonna be the week I ate ramen for 3 meals a day, I would survive and be happy. The girl I've been with was so supportive thru the whole thing I was feeling great. Until about halfway into the ride home she said we needed to talk and sprang the "We should just be friends..." speech on me. I do love the girl, and understand completely. We will make much better friends than anything else, but the timing was atrocious. I'm upset, but I'm dealing. It will be for the best I think. So I took her home and drove home by myself, no music, just thinking and listening to the rain and the tires on the pavement. Shhhhhhh, vroom, thunka thunka thunka. A flat fucking tire! Have you ever changed a tire in the fucking rain? in the dark? On a fucking german made car where everything is backwards? Its no fucking fun. This has been my day, I want to know who up there I fucking pissed off so I can apologize before anything else happens. With my luck so far, my apartment will burn down tonite and fall on my car and I'll escape with nothing but my underwear. That would figure. Send happy thoughts or stories my way tonite, I could use em. |
Aw man, sounds like shit.
But you just gotta think, when you're having the worse possible day, it's just a day. And tomorrow will be better, guarenteed. |
ya got no where to go but up from here , bud... Hope today is a better day...
DOn't walk in front of a bus, that'd really only screw up someone else's day... |
I fully feel G-d provides and G-d takes away. An old expression my grandmother says "it is better this then a doctor bill." Which basically means it is better G-d takes the money away via something like this then making you sick...
Everyone has a shitty day, there are a ton of girls out there (as one who has broken up before, i know how you never want to hear it at that point but you have to pick yourself up, dand move on). |
Oh hon I really hope things improve from here.
Why in the world did they tow YOUR car? Why didn't they report it? Something sounds screwy to me. Glad you did get your car back. That girl just did not have any tact. I hope you find someone better before long. Rough days toughen you up and the good days feel like a breeze then. Good Luck. |

That was my first thought. Unless you left something out, sounds like these guys are making money by towing random cars and charging people to get them out again. |
As the wise Q once told me... this is the day you can compare other nasty days to, and realize that it's not AS bad as that one day, yeah, when the shit poured down... At least you had a friend to help you with the last part of the crappy day. :*
And yes, why did they tow you and not the others? Were the police records just not updated?? |
I'd say that the out of state plates made you a pretty easy target for towing... Who actually authorized the towing? the parking lot where you were parked? The city? or was it a random tow...
In a few weeks, you will come back to this thread, and hopefully find the humor in the "if anything can possibly go wrong, it will scenario". JUst blame the band, it was all their fault. |

men are not made by their good moments, but how they react during the bad ones.
at the moment life stinks, the sun will rise and you will be okay. |
dude...as soon as you found out your car was not stolen......i don't see anything that bad in this story. You don't have some terminal illness and you got another day to live.......its all about perspective......go out, get drunk and take home some hottie from the bar and have a night of fun....
|
Well, I found out later it was a private lot, and their are no parking signs posted. However the signs are posted on the other side of the building where there are no chance to see them if you pull into the parking lot where I did. Also my car was the only one towed, the ones on both sides of me were stilll there. I was the only one without Texas plates tho.
Bleh, I'm sure I'll look back on this and laugh in a couple weeks, but right now it sucks. And now I get to go to work! Yay! |
It could be worse. You could live in someplace like Bosnia, or the Sudan...
or, God forbid, Austin... :) You had a hell of a night, but you are upright and taking nourishment, you can get through this. It is true that every cloud has a silver lining, I'm sure some good will come of this. Keep us posted, and good luck! |
I don't even have any words of encouragement, that's just one craptacular day my friend. :icare: *manlove*
|
That does sound like a bad day man. I think everyone gets one like that now and again though. They are a pain in the arse. Makes u enjoy the good ones though.
|
My buddy discovered his car stolen on Christmas morning. He discovered it a few blocks from his home, in the middle of the street, flipped over on its side.
At least you car was right side up when you found it. |

We all have our bad days man. The next one WILL be better. You've topped the bad things that can happen to you, so...you should be all set for good things... :) I think that makes sense... |
The fact that there were no "no parking" signs posted by the entrance you used could mean that they had no right to tow you. It's worth checking out.
|
Holy Jesus Sean... that sounds like the night from hell. Just remember everything happens for a reason.
|
Ha ha, great story. I mean that in a good way too. Remember that your suffering resulted in others' entertainment. That seriously sounds like something that would happen to me.

IrishSean......I've had that night. Not quite exactly yours, but mine cost more money. Sometimes that's just how it goes, and in a few weeks you'll be able to tell the story to friends and they'll buy you a round for it. It'll all work out.
Hopefully things are going better for you! |
reminds me of this book i used to read when I was a little kid...
http://images.amazon.com/images/P/06...1.LZZZZZZZ.jpg just put Irishsean instead of alexander. |
Wow, that sucks. I've had some pretty bad nights myself. But you'll get through this. Also, seconding the point that this girl has NO tact whatsoever, you're better off without her. The timing for the "just friends" speech was atrocious. I really question why she chose such a bad time to drop a bomb like that...it definitely will be for the best that you're not seeing her anymore. Good luck man.
|
What a terrible time, but look at it this way:
your car got towed after you spent some money on a girl who eventually proved she wasn't worth your time. I'd say that's money well-spent because you could have found out about her after you'd invested even more time & money on her. (I can't believe that she didn't at least offer a few dollars to help out.) |
Bleh,that does suck. Alot.
Pity you couldn't afford to buy a lotto ticket. Something has to go right for you. Weekend now, hopefully you're not working it. Sit back, chill, next week will be a blast. Er, a good blast, that is. |
Dude, we've all been there. Shitty, shitty couple of days, man. Hope everything perks up pretty soon.
|
I'm sorry about your shitty day. I can relate.
I went to church today, and a family with a girl the same age as my son told me that she has leukemia. I've spent all day thinking about that. The best way to fight out of a shitty day is being thankful for the problems you DON'T have. I don't mean to be insensitive -- I just want you to know (and to remind myself) that it can always be worse, much worse. |
