I did not know anywhere else to put this, I did not think it belonged in the "outdoors thread" or the "tilted motors" thread so here it is in the general maybe a mod can move it around for me.

Anywho to the post.

I just got into the RC hobby, my gf purchased a Traxxas T-Maxx for me for my birthday (which is not for 2 more weeks but I got it early due to work and school and some company coming into town to spend some time from out of state)

I have only grown up having the little cheapo TYCO ones from Toys R Us and the such that I used to get as presents, this is my first nito vehicle and first top of the line model as well. It is ready to run out of the box with just the batteries for remote controller, a charger to charge the starter and starter batteries, as all you need to buy seperate plus the fuel and away you go. Does anyone have any experience with these vehicles or anyone else in the hobby currently I can use to pick your brain on thoughts, ideas, hop-ups or any general maintenance tips and tricks?


There is a pretty good manual and DVD that come with the truck I have went over each a few times and will be gluing the tires to the rims and doing the 5 step engine break-in period starting tomorrow which according to the DVD takes about 2 hours then I can start shredding and running over things.

This place has any and all info you will ever need related to rc monster trucks. While I don't know very much about the maxx trucks, I can tell you that you can do most anything from those trucks, from keepoing it stock and just beating it around the neighborhood to spending thousands of dollars on titanium suspension components and make the truck a hardcore race vehicle that can reach rediculous speeds and do all sorts of crazy shit. In any case, have fun.

Hey montana if you have any questions about that tmaxx let me know I work in a hobby shop on the weekends and have had about every type of monster truck to play with at one time or another. I know a pretty good bit about them even know I fly rc helis and planes

I'm not sure of the law but the police have never bothered me. Just don't drive it down a busy street and you should be fine.

Its all about the RC Drift cars! My buddy has a AE86 bodied one, its beyond badass.

They are incredibly fun, but prepared to spend lots and lots of money. Other than the price tag, it's one of the funnest hobbies out there.

sweet I might have to do that I am registered on the Traxxas forums and have been looking there for info, but they all seem to be pro guys or well into the hobby. There is not much in the way of simple question and answers for a newb like me, they are all about their hopped up engines, new chassis, tires etc. I am all for keeping the truck pretty stock for the time being as what I have been reading it is one tough cookie right out the box. Also as far as running it I have to get some CA glue for the tires (this is just super glue though right?) and do the engine break in as instructed by the manual and DVD since it is some new kind of a engine they just came up with it needs special breaking in procedures.

I do not have any kind of a track to run on just some open grassy soccer fields, there is hoever, a BMX bike track that is somewhat overgrown and not used anymore near work I can take it there and run it when I want too it has some jumps and some small hills to ramp over.

cj would you suggest I look for anything to add to the truck to help me out getting started or leave it stock? The Traxxas forums guys said I should get a throttle return spring and something else that cuts the truck off if the batteries in the remote go dead or gets out of range.

also the gf bought me a Wing Dragon beginner park flyer for my b-day last year but I broke the wings up pretty good and have not gotten around to fixing it yet.

It is basicly super glue, but the ca you will get from the hobby shop is of much higher quality than you will get at the corner store. I bought the big bottle of zap a gap and ive had it for almost 2 years.

I wouldn't change a thing on that truck until you get comfortable with it and a throttle return spring is a great idea the device they are talking about is a fail safe it returns the throttle servo back to idle if your battries go out they are both worth having and do just as the dvd say's about break in you have to break in all rc engines you get more performance and longer life if you do a proper break in what type a fuel are you running in it I suggest sidewinder 30/12 it has high nitro content and good lubercation

she grabbed me a gallon of the Traxxas brand 20% when she bought the truck. I have a pretty wide open area to run so if it gets away from me I am not overly worried about wrecking, just being able to catch up with it and shut it down so I probably will not mess with the return or failsafe right now, but will grab one in the future as they both seem like a great idea, do they run on the batteries in the truck that the receiver runs on, or do they need a seperate pack added onto the body somewhere?



also they told her (also in the manual and DVD I watched) that if I break in on 20% do not use 10% and to stick with whatever % nitro I break in with

Wow, That truck looks great. Used to be into RC cars when I was younger. After reading about that one I think a trip to the hobby store is in order.

The fail safe has a battery built in it and I don't like blue thunder it gums up the engine. I use byrons or sidewinder in my car and truck stuff you can go to higher nitro content after break in it wont hurt the engine

Waaay too hot outside today to mess with the truck so no CA glue or break in just yet.

Yep that's a stock maxx go to your local hobby shop and check out the savage 25 and the traxxas revo those are great trucks to

You will not be able to catch up with that truck if the throttle gets stuck wide open. Those trucks haul ass, even stock. This thread really makes me want to break out my clodbuster, see if she can still crawl like back in the day.

This thread while only being hit by a few is getting quite some attention it seems, I just got back from the shop and I eneded up buying the CA glue along with a failsafe.


On the failsafe it looks like nothing more than a small chip that plugs in somewhere, no batteries or anything on it or any place to put any, it is from a company called Dynamite and it cost me in the neighborhood of $20 so is this the right thing I needed to get?

Also guy I heard them Clodbusters were some bad trucks till the Maxx came out and it took over as the best selling truck around, what are the specs on the clod buster?

The clodbuster is a dual motor, soild axle monster truck released by tamiya in the late 80's. Out of the box they where slow and cumbersome, but damn near impossible to kill. But, there is a huge aftermarket following allowing you to turn them into anything from rock crawlers so flexy you could wear them as a necklace to fast as hell race trucks. They still make it, but they call it the ultimate clodbuster or something to that effect. All they changed were the decals and colors of the molded pieces. Mine has a home made lexan chassis and has a little more than 90 degrees of articulation.

Montana just hook up following the instuctions it has a battery in it it's small you got the right thing man it will save you greif if the throttle hangs.

I am back and after a not to successful day yesterday trying to do my engine break in procedure. I did not fry any glowplugs but the GD thing would not start and I kept flodding the engine out. The call to Traxxass told me that my battery in my EZ Start was not charged enough to get the glow plug up to heat fast enough to start the combustion thus just flooding it out. Any suggestions on this? I have a (as far as I know) pretty nice charger a Dynamite Vision Peak 2 charger, and a 3000mah 6 cell battery pack for the EZ. I am charging it now to make sure it is 100% and heading out to try the break in procedure again.
