To London

These great Englishmen say it better than I ever could

Quote:
They came at us the same old way. We saw them off in the same old way.

Arthur Wellesley (1769 - 1852), first Duke of Wellington

Quote:
We shall not fail or falter; we shall not weaken or tire. Neither the sudden shock of battle nor the long-drawn trials of vigilance and exertion will wear us down.

Sir Winston Churchill (1874 - 1965), British Prime Minister

Quote:
Never give in--never, never, never, never, in nothing great or small, large or petty, never give in except to convictions of honour and good sense. Never yield to force...

Sir Winston Churchill (1874 - 1965), British Prime Minister

Quote:
One ought never to turn one's back on a threatened danger and try to run away from it. If you do that, you will double the danger. But if you meet it promptly and without flinching, you will reduce the danger by half.

Sir Winston Churchill (1874 - 1965), British Prime Minister

Quote:
Cry "Havoc," and let slip the dogs of war.

William Shakespeare (1564 - 1616) English dramatist & poet

Quote:
In peace there's nothing so becomes a man
As modest stillness and humility;
But when the blast of war blows in our ears,
Then imitate the action of the tiger:
Stiffen the sinews, summon up the blood.

William Shakespeare (1564 - 1616) English dramatist & poet

Quote:
This England never did, nor never shall,
Lie at the proud foot of a conqueror.

William Shakespeare (1564 - 1616) English dramatist & poet

Quote:
This royal throne of kings, this sceptred isle,
This earth of majesty, this seat of Mars,
This other Eden, demi-paradise,
This fortress built by Nature for herself
Against infection and the hand of war,
This happy breed of men, this little world,
This precious stone set in the silver sea,
Which serves it in the office of a wall
Or as a moat defensive to a house,
Against the envy of less happier lands,--
This blessed plot, this earth, this realm, this England.

William Shakespeare (1564 - 1616) English dramatist & poet

Quote:
War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself.

John Stuart Mill (1806 - 1873), English economist & philosopher (1806 - 1873)

Quote:
The way was long and weary,
But gallantly they strode,
A country lad and lassie,
Along the heavy road.
The night was dark and stormy,
But blithe of heart were they,
For shining in the distance
The lights of London lay.
O gleaming lights of London, that gem of the city's crown;
What fortunes be within you, O Lights of London Town!

George Robert Sims (1847 - 1922) - English journalist, author and dramatist

Quote:
BURNING WITH FEAR? MY ARSE.

Dave Tom Williams inscribed on giant Union Jack, Liverpool Street tube station

Don't forget another important one:

Quote:
"Oh dear. He has betrayed my trust."

Neville Chamberlain, upon learning that his negotiation/appeasement policy with Hitler had been a miserable failure.

follower of the child's crusade?

if anyone thinks that these attacks will shake people up, they are very mistaken.

Most people I know while being sad about the innocent victims, were rational and sober about the whole issue. A lot of people I know were saying we had it coming because of Iraq.. but I dont know anyone who is burning with fear. London survived the blitz and was made stronger by it, does anyone think that they can intimidate us with these sort of tactics?
