Quick Question About College(s)

Quick question, how long does it usually take to get the letter of acceptance from a college? If i registered a few days ago what's the minumum/average waiting time I should expect?

Check the particular college's website or call. That'll probably be your best source of information.

Just a point of clarification -- did you register or did you apply.

Some colleges, all you do is register, pay your fee and start attending classes. No application process necessary, so no acceptance neccessary.

Others, you need to fill out that application write a check for the application fee and mail it in, at some point during this process, you might have also scheduled an interview. It seems a bit late in the year to be applying to colleges.

Depending on the review process of the school, and how many candidates they get, it can take any where from 1 week to over a month for t hem to figure out who to accept. A few days isn't a lot of time, I'd give it a week or so, then give the admissions office a call. (But before then, I'd also find out when and if they shut down for the summer)

Yeah some schools are better than others.
UIUC took 3 FUCKING MONTHS to tell me no.
Purdue and UIowa took 2 weeks to say yes.

What Maleficient said.

I got accepted into my university within 3 weeks. However, it took other universities up to 5 months to reject me. Makes me wonder if I was that close to getting into a better program. :(

I went to Purdue and applied in October 2001 for the August 2002 semester. I had my acceptance in hand a week later.

if you're wondering, call the admissions office (provided you applied for the college, instead of just registered for classes.) Just don't pester them and ask if you've been accepted yet- they get pretty pissed when you do that.

It took about a month and a half to get my acceptance letter after I applied. You mentioned registering though, so I'm not sure if I understand your situation all the way.

As stated above, it all depends on the school you are applying to. When I applied to community college, I was accepted that day, given a date for placement tests, and registered later that day.

One the other hand, when I applied to ODU, they had a deadline for “early acceptance” (this was 9 months before I would start there). Even though I made sure I had everything in well before the deadline for that, it still took 3 months for them to review my application, and mail my acceptance letter. If I had sent in my application after the date, it would have taken much longer to hear anything, as they had to process all of the pre-deadline people before they would think about doing the others.

The best bet is to check with the registrar. Every school has their internal schedule for when to deal with applications. Do this early! Records & applications can get lost (either in the mail or on someone’s desk), so knowing about it ASAP can be critical in getting through in a timely manner.

Good luck!

It took a month for my acceptance--I got mine a week after my best friend and a month before another friend, and we all sent our apps in at the same time.

Just a note for everyone else who has replied--some smaller state schools have rolling admissions, meaning you can apply any time for the next term or semester. I picked a school with rolling admissions as my back-up.
