Police: Beauty School Robber Beaten With Sticks, Curling Irons

http://www.ksla.com/Global/story.asp...1&nav=0RY5b1k8

A man who allegedly tried to rob aShreveport beauty school was confronted by a group of nearly 30 women and one man, some of whom beat him with sticks and curling irons. The bloody suspect left the scene by ambulance. "I put something on him, baby," said instructor Dianne Mitchell. "He wasn't coming up in here and telling nobody he robbed us and got away with it."

Shreveport police were called to Blalock's Professional Beauty College, 5410 Mansfield Road, at 11:59am Tuesday. Witnesses say a man walked into the school and pointed a gun at an instructor. He allegedly demanded money from the business as well as the purses of the nearly 30 students and staff members inside. As the suspect grabbed the only other male inside, a student, and escorted him to the back of the building, Mitchell says she tripped the suspect. A group of women then grabbed curling irons and sticks and began to beat the man, police said. "The suspect was trying to get out of the business and, as he was trying to get out, they kept pulling him back in and beating him," said police spokeswoman Kacee Hargrave.

Paramedics transported the suspect from the scene by ambulance. The trunk of a Shreveport police car where officers handcuffed the suspect, was covered in blood. "He's going to need some stitches," said Officer Eric Swartout. "He had some pretty good swelling and knots on his head and a lot of lacerations on his face," Officer Swartout said. Police later identified the suspect as Jared Gipson, 24, of Shreveport. Gipson was charged with armed robbery. Police say the suspect was listed in good condition at LSU Hospital in Shreveport.

that's hilarious. good for them! finally, sometthing good that came of the victimization america got from 9/11. people are standing up for themselves. (not that i think 9/11 was good, but at least americans aren't completely spineless when an individual tries to take advantage of a group!)

That is a pretty good story. It does go to show that woman are not wimps. What was he thinking, trying to rob a place filled with 30 women? Obviously a few brain cells short!

To say nothing of the comment that "women are not wimps," it was stupid of the guy to walk into a place that has red hot sticks, chemicals and sharp scissors as a staple at each station. I've never been in a gun store... but isn't that a lot like trying to hold one up?

The reminds me, I just watched the movie "Species" last night. The dumb doctor that made the alien in that movie said he made a female because they were "easier to handle". Yeah, right!

I seriously doubt that there's any connection. People have been defending themselves from armed robbers for thousands of years, and will continue to do so.

Beauticians are scary, especially in flock. I've cheated in the buissness, and the pros are some real tough ladies (and occasional gents) who won't take crap from noone. The robber was probably happy when the police came!

what i find funny is the fact they repeatidy drug him back in it beat him down somemore. some friends went to the place and asked if they had any survalence footage they would give out to them to host on the web. they said they didn't but if they did they would have gladly done it.

he got off light IMO. they could have just stuck him with shape objects and left him for a Porcupine exibit. I did find it strange that out of everyone there he chose the one male in the whole place to assult. ahahaha.

huh???

I thought Americans were always about standing up for themselves. You didn't need terrorist attacks to start that.

well, guess i should have expanded on that a bit. there's a psychological phenomena knowns as bystander apathy, where people end up standing around waiting for someone else to do something. there have been dozens of documented cases of it, which include what happened on the planes that crashed into the WTC towers. However, since the attacks almost four years ago, stories like this have started to show up. People are tired of being taken advantage of.
