I was just about to post this in Health and Fitness. Then I thought, heh heh...
I love stories like this. Why?
Because I've always thought being old is the coolest thing you can be! Why?
Because that's the opposite of what the media tells us...

Germany's oldest man thrives on beer and cigars

Duesseldorf: Hermann Doernemann, the oldest man in Germany, turned 110 on Tuesday saying the only exercise he ever believed in was walking to the corner shop to buy beer and cigars.

Mentally still alert, though now restricted to a wheelchair and his eyesight failing, Doernemann marked his birthday at his daughter's home surrounded by four generations of offspring, including great-grandchildren Nick, 2, and Noelle, nearly 1.

"If I had known I was going to live this long I would have taken better care of myself," he said in a statement through his daughter, Rita Klein, 63.

After all, besides drinking and smoking all his life, he was wounded in the arm in the war - World War 1, that is.

He was the runt of his family, born in Essen in 1893 as the youngest of eight children, all of whom have long since died.

Kaiser Wilhelm II was in power when, as a boy, he helped his father repair saddles, reins and bits for teams of horses used in nearby coal mines.

He remembers when his family house was wired for electricity when he was eight years old.

The Berlin Wall had come down before he turned 100. At that age he was still spry enough to fetch his own beer and cigars from the corner shop.

He worked as an electrician for four decades before finally retiring in 1959.

This guy has one foot in the 19th century and one foot in the 21st century!

It's not so much your health, that I worry about.
It's how the hell do you keep the bills paid?
Hell, if you retire at 65, you still have over 45 years left of living to do.
That's why I went into a job where you can use your mind, not your body to make money.
That way I don't really have to retire, I can keep working on all the accumulated knowledge & experience.

At the same time, I would love to live that long to see everything happen.

Imagine the history you could learn at the side of his wheelchair. It'd be different from what's in the history books, I'll bet!

This guys great, imagine the stuff this guys has seen and done!

No wonder the German pensions system is about to collapse. I mean, come on, 44 years... the nerve of some people.

I found this story of another 110 year old this one is a lady, people are living to be old er and older everyday.... mabey whisky and smoking is prolonging life.


Sequim, Washington — Eva Fridell has seen plenty of progress in her 110 years, everything from horseless carriages to space flight. But her favorite invention is a little closer to home – the flush toilet.
As a girl, one of Fridell's after-school chores was to empty the family chamber pots. The Washington state woman turned 110 Tuesday, making her one of the oldest people in the country. Her family held a low-key celebration at the home of grandson Greg Saunders.

And what do you buy for a woman of 110? A bottle of her favorite whiskey, Crown Royal. Saunders says an occasional nip is one of the secrets to grandma's longevity.

hehe, actually in 7th or 8th grade Science class, I learned that ONE beer a day is actually good for you.. and will increase your longetivity, the problem is that most people go beyond ONE beer a day....
