This is a funny thread to run across today because I was actually thinking about this on the way home from work today. I am not sure why, but I was thinking about The Plantation at Kapalua on Maui. It is the club house for the Plantation golf course at Kapalua. The dining room is surrounded by shutters that are left open, so it is like dining outside. It is high on a hill overlooking a fairway towards the Pacific. They serve wonderfull local seafood done in a variety of styles with creative but elegent food. The key is to time your reservation so you are seated during sunset. They also have an amazing Sunday brunch that is very reasonable.
By the way Braisler, is the Merrick Inn still open in Lexington? Their pike is amazing. |

I think La Marche (also called Movenpick, a chain of Swiss restaurants) went out of business or were purchased by new owners... I have to admit, for a chain restaurant La Marche wasn't bad.

umm..for homey just relaxed places.. all state cafe (if anyones in NY you should check them out..great burgers and AMAZING chili), harry's burritos, slightly fancier is this place called bistro...its quant and has like french/american food, and for fancier still the oyster house in greenwich ct. :)

Saltwater, Nottingham: Amazing views over the city, and the food is great. A mix of modern and traditional british food with great service but a price to match which student debt can no longer afford.

If you're a fan of german cuisine... here in Colorado Springs there's a restaurant called Uwes. It's german owned and operated and has been for all the years it's been there.

Best BBQ/smoked meats I've ever eaten! The portions used to be huge too, but evidently they've stopped that and started weighing it out, but the food is still tremendous! Evidently quite a few famous people have eaten there, though I've only seen the pictures on the wall, never actually seen a celeb there. If anyone here watches Wheel of Fortune regularly, you might have seen Pat eating there last week sometime. |
If for some reason, you decide to come to Brampton (why?) and don't have any money, like myself, I'd suggest going to Pho Vietnam on Main, or Giggling Tomatos on Queen and Kennedy.
Pho Vietnam is looks sort of blah, but the food is excellent, and Dennis is an awesome person, who actually recognizes me when I come in. He says he's glad that my chopstickking ability has improved! It's also really really cheap! :) |
Osamu sushi in Coquitlam. They know me and what I like and treat me very well (lots of freebies). They always have uni, which for some reason alot of sushi joints rarely have.
Almost any restaurant in Tofino. If you're ever on the West coast of Vancouver island you must try a couple of the high end eateries there. |

In NYC:
For casual, well-priced meals, Saigon Grill is really good (Vietnamese food, very well priced), although the resturant is quite packed at most times and can get quite noisy. For something more fancy, I really like China Grill (asian fusion), although it can be hard to get seats and quite pricey...but the Pekking Duck Salad is a favorite of mine. Calle Ocho is really great Cuban food, also quite fancy/pricey. Haha there are just so many good resturants, I hardly know what to name. I'll keep it limited to those, as the first that popped into my head. Oh, and for good pizza, Sal and Carmine is a favorite of mine on the upper west side. The only problem is that they don't deliver, so I usually only get around to getting it when I'm passing by. As far as chains go, I really like The Cheesecake Factory for resturants...the staff in there always seems quite good-natured and friendly, and the food is always good and not too unhealthy...hard to find for chains, sometimes. There aren't any Cheesecake Factories in NYC as far as I know, but I go there sometimes on trips, if I'm not up for trying something of questionable quality. |
