Chronic Candy?

I thought this article was pretty interesting:

Critics Say Pot Candy Is Being Marketed To Kids

ORLANDO, Fla. -- There's a new lollipop in town and its flavor is controversial to say the least. It's called 'Chronic Candy' and it's made to taste like marijuana. Critics of the product say it's one more way to make illegal drugs seem cool.

The little lollipops really are made to taste like marijuana, but there is no THC in them, which is the active ingredient in pot that gets you high. But that fact hasn't stopped critics of this crazy candy.

Beyond the plastic wrapper, buried in the colorful candy is the flavor of marijuana.

"It's not good at all, it's sweet," said Florence Marr after tasting the candy. "It tastes like crap."

Not everyone shares Marr's opinion and drug prevention experts say the sweet stuff will be very tempting to a vulnerable crowd.

"I mean, I'm thinking middle school kids as being really intrigued with this. They're so much at that pivotal point, rebel a little bit. 'It's just candy, mom, how can it hurt me,'" commented Jody Scott, Center for Drug Free Living.
The ad campaign for the pot-flavored pops is almost more shocking than the candy itself, using pictures of marijuana and slogans that make parents cringe, such as "tell a friend, not a cop," and "every lick is like taking a hit."

"Every lick is like taking a hit, that's nice. And then of course, the packaging is called nickel bag. I mean, that's uncalled for," said parent Wade Marr.

"I feel sorry for anybody who needs this to make a living," said Brian Foster.

The man making that living expects it to be quite a living.

"Actually, to be honest with you, you'll hear it first. I'm gonna make a billion dollars out of this," said Tony Van Pelt, the creator of Chronic Candy. "This is a business, controversial, but a legitimate product, hard work behind it."

Van Pelt's already begun to find his clientele. "Snoop Dog got the chronic candy and the Chronic blue beenie."

He says his is not kid candy. "I don't want it in kids' hands. It's not meant for kids. It's an adult thing."

But experts say, if the makers think kids won't get their hands on this product, they must be high.

"I think the most dangerous part of this message is by connecting marijuana or pot with candy. It makes it seem so safe. I mean, what could be more harmless than a lollypop?" questioned Scott.
Whats funny is I went to a Wyclef Jean concert and while he was on stage he had a green lollipop that he said was marijuana flavored. I thought he was just trying to be funny.

I think they probally wouldnt taste that good, but I would try one. They probally would go over big in canada.

OK, so I can't speak from experience, but isn't the point behind marijuana to get high? Is the taste of it really that good that you'd want to eat it without the high?

Maybe they should market it like Nicorette... Marijuanette- for people trying to kick the habit

except that THC is not physiologically addictive, like nicotine.

I don't like the idea of marijuana candy. It's like those chocolates that are liquor flavored- Both of these substances have a pronounced effect on the mind that should be limited for minors, and creating a "kid's candy" (how many adults do you see sucking on lollipops?) is not a step in the right direction.

okay, honestly, as a regular smoker, even i cannot really comprehend what a marijuana flavoured lollipop would taste like. i love the smell, but the taste? something that tastes like a plant doesn't sound too good to me.

Yeah, Thats exactly what I thought when I read this article. I have no idea how one would actually taste. I think it probably could taste good...but it could taste bad so easily.

It is probably like a Tequila pop...

They have both of them at the Spencers here in the mall.

Difference with the alcohol filled chocolates is that you can't get drunk off them- maybe just intensely hyper from the sugar, but not drunk.

ive tried weed lollipops before and they taste like stems.
its more like a lolli with a scorpion or worm in it in terms of it being more for novelty than taste.

You can't get high off these marijuana pops either. They are just pot "flavored".

The taste is usually quite revolting (although Vanilla Coke in a 6-foot bong improved it significantly in my two-time smoking experience.)

Just a thang to sell to teenies so they can think they're doing something bold. I've never had one, but I've had marijuana brownies; so I'm going to assume that marijuana pops are to lollipops as pot brownies are to regular brownies: Yeccchhhh!
