Movie Memorabilia

Wizard of Oz Dress sells for 250K

The blue and white gingham dress Judy Garland wore somewhere over the rainbow in The Wizard of Oz was sold for $252,000 Wednesday at auction in London, reports The Associated Press.

The dress, one of six identical garments created for Garland for the 1939 movie, went to a buyer bidding by telephone who did not wish to be identified, said Bonhams, the auctioneer. It had been expected to fetch $63,000.

''This dress represents the quintessential magic of childhood in the most beloved film of the 20th century,'' said Jon Baddeley, head of Bonhams' collector's department.

Garland, who was 17 when she portrayed Dorothy in the movie, died in 1969, less than two weeks after her 47th birthday.

If price were no object, what article of clothing, prop, piece of memorablia from any movie would you want to own, and why?

Bill O'Rights 04-28-2005 05:14 AM

Indianna Jones' jacket and fedora. Why? 'Cause it's just so damn cool. Maybe Bogey's hat and trenchcoat from Casablanca.

Oh, I get it. You thought I was gonna say Alyson Hannigan's flute.

I never answered my own question -- but ^^^ is what I would really want. Casablanca is probably my favorite movie of all time... and that hat is just sooo cool...

Second choice would be the hat that Bette Davis wore, when the ship pulled into NY in the movie Now Voyager... Not that I'd have anything to wear with it, but it'd be fun to just have.

Glory's Sun 04-28-2005 05:20 AM

I'd want the coffin coffee table from Rocky Horror Picture Show.

StanT 04-28-2005 05:33 AM

How cool would it be to drive around in a James Bond Aston Martin?

hulk 04-28-2005 05:35 AM

I got the next best thing. And soley for the Ep 3 premiere, too.

Nisses 04-28-2005 05:42 AM

there's a James Bond movie where he has a little helicopter that he can just put together himself with parts from 2 or 3 backpacks. Really a tiny little thing. But I always wanted it. Seems like the ultimate freedom (ok, if you consider some kind of infinite fuelsupply that you fit in your pocket too I guess :) )

I dunno. Something about personal freedom, even from gravity...

the_marq 04-28-2005 06:07 AM

I want an APU from The Matrix Revolutions. It would be great if it worked, but even if not it would look pretty killer in my driveway.

lurkette 04-28-2005 06:39 AM

I'd want:

- Lauren Bacall's entire wardrobe from The Big Sleep
- The statue from The Maltese Falcon
- Grace Kelly's ballgown from To Catch a Thief http://www.operagloves.com/vidcaps4/...hathief140.jpg
- This dress from Rear Window http://cinegor.granadaenlared.com/00477.jpg
-Gloria Swanson's' house from Sunset Boulevard.

Maltese Falcons Valued at Over $3 Million Most Expensive Props From American Cinema
Of the ten plaster and India ink statuettes that were created for the film, art historian and collector Hank Risan owns three.
Risan's three statuettes have been conservatively valued at over $1 million each, making them some of the most valuable film props to date.

Fremen 04-28-2005 11:14 AM

I wouldn't mind having the cockpit of the Millenium Falcon in my living room, while I dress in my new blue and white gingham dress. :D

bparker805 04-28-2005 11:19 AM

A bartender R2D2 from ROTJ would be pretty cool...

Cuatela 04-28-2005 11:20 AM

I'm leaning towards the lightsabers, although I'm thinking either Kit Fisto or Anakin Skywalker.

Elphaba 04-28-2005 12:05 PM

The piano from Casablanca.

Grasshopper Green 04-28-2005 03:40 PM

The green dress Scarlett makes from the old curtains in Gone With The Wind. Old velvet curtains never looked so good.

The one Carol Burnett wore on their take off of GWTW is also a classic

I second the Indiana Jones stuff and add Duncan's sword from Higlander the series.

lurkette 04-28-2005 04:49 PM

Ooh, how about the crystal shard from The Dark Crystal? I'd have that.

Zephyr66 04-28-2005 05:01 PM

Have you ever seen any episodes of the Carol Burnett Show? This was comedy the way it was meant to be - Funny.. .watching Tim COnway and Harvey Korman try to crack each other up... The Real Gone With the WInd episode had me in tears I laughed so hard..

Fremen 04-28-2005 06:22 PM

^^Designed by the famous Bob Mackie.

I really shouldn't know these things. ;)

I want the Ghostbusters' car and one of their proton guns.

present_future 04-28-2005 07:44 PM

The clippings from Forrest Gump's beard.

glasscutter43 05-03-2005 08:06 AM

The robot mask Brigitte Helm wore in Metropolis. Fritz Lang 1927

Charlatan 05-03-2005 08:40 AM

The Illustration of George Lasso's the Moon, Clarence's book and Jimmy Stewart's Football uniform from It's a Wonderful Life.

Elisha Cook Jr's drum kit from Phantom Lady.

Jimmy Stewart's cast from Rear Window (good call on the dresses Lurkette... Grace Kelly looked smashing throughout the entire film).

Indiana's Jacket and Fedora and Bogey's Trench and Hat are excellent choices. I'd also like to have the letters of transit from Casablanca and the Arc of the Covenant from Raiders (It is a telephone for talking to God!)

I'd want some Models of Thomas the Tank Engine.

Models used in making Davey and Goliath (I don't know Davey).

Adam West's Batman costume with the belt.

BigBen 05-03-2005 09:53 AM

Hmmmmm,

I'd have to go with Forrest's shoes,
The Back to the Future Delorean
Darth's Mask
Jason's Hockey mask (and potatoe sack from the first one)

Freddy Kruger's hat
Haloween Mask

I guess I would have a good mask collection. Remember, themed collections are more valuable when grouped together. That, and they would look super cool.

Sp0rAdiC 05-03-2005 11:05 AM

Let's see, the first thing that comes to mind is stuff from the Blade movies. I'd want all his weapons and gadgets, and I like his leather coat/cloak thing. I'm sure I'll think of several other things at work tonight, hopefully I'll remember to add them here.

My mom used to watch the show when I was very young, but I really don't remember it much. Do I remember correctly that part of the introduction credits was animated?

Blackthorn 05-05-2005 12:09 PM

I would LOVE to have the real Millenium Falcon!

Of course it would have to be completely operational and come with an endless supply of gas so that I could drive it to work every day. Operational weapons systems are also a must. Who wouldn't love a set of quad laser cannons strapped to their vehicle for that morning commute? :D

Cuatela 05-05-2005 12:28 PM

The Millenium Falcon can't run on gasoline, and depending on where you live, you'd probably be attacked the first time you took off.
