How could the breast cancer survivors be OFFENDED because of the use of a pink jersey? So they made pink ribbons, are people not allowed to use pink because of that?

What in the hell? So can someone not wear yellow (colour of military) because they're relaxing? Sounds like a bunch of ridiculous shit.

It doesn't say that cancer survivors were giving them hell about it. Not directly anyway. Even if they are I don't see how any one group can claim a color. Sure you associate colors with a certain group often times but they don't own the rights to it. I guess I can't wear my pink Volcom shirt because it might offend someone..wait..that's even more reason to wear it. Besides, if a color is assoicated with a certain group then they should be happy that people wear it. It's a form of marketing.

Eitherway, I'll wear what I choose and ignore the PC oversensitivity.

I absolutely don't mind. I'm a survivor, and i find this overly PC attitude disturbing. (petite, why is yellow a military colour?)

I'm with you guys, the people making the complaints are ridiculous, though I do have respect for the coach that rather than make an issue out of it he decided to change the color out of respect for the cancer survivors and owing to the negative connotation that the pink jerseys had, at least he could be mature about it, that or he's just covering his ass.

On the reading this article, first thing I did was click the link to look for an April 1st date-stamp.

This is painfully stupid. By this logic, anyone wearing black is belittling Columbine victims (after all, the kids that committed the crime wore black a lot, so there has to be a connection), anyone wearing blue is belittling the tsunami victims (well, water's blue, there's a connection)...

I could actually see someone saying they'll stop making slackers wear pink because that's saying a "girl's color" (and thus girls) represent weakness.

That I could see. For me, innocent as I am, pink is a girl's color.

(As both are very wrinkley, sometimes color coding is required.)

(Think of the possibilities there! Color coding people! If you're voted an idiot by your peers, you wear brown (because your head is up your ass); if you're mean or short tempered you wear red; if you're cool and collected you get blue; if you're excited all the time you get yellow; etc.)

Now, if these guys are slacking and having to wear pink, it must be because "girls wear pink, and you're wearing pink becuase you act like a girl." Right? That's what this is really about, I think. The whole breast cancer thing is some dumbass who got in a tiff over some imagined BS and complained. Then the idiots didn't just say "nope, I'm not seeing the connection."

However, if someone had complained becuase punishing boys by making them wear a girl's color was offensive, I can actually see the point. Maybe not agree totally, but see it.

It's an easy way to show your support by buying something that most likely came from Taiwan and does not acutally support the troops in any way. I fell that if the best way you can think of to support any cause is a bumper sticker or magnet, then you should just leave it off to avoid cheapening your belief by turning it into a stupid fashion statement.

Yellow is also a symbol of a soldier coming home. There is a song about it. Tie A Yellow Ribbon Around The Old Oak Tree or something like that. I know when my dad came home from the first Gulf War my mom put yellow ribbons on all the trees in the yard.

The way I see it, to be blunt, pink has been a "pussy" color longer then a cancer color. They need to have a big glass of "suck it up" and mover the fuck on. I hate this PC shit.

For generations, coaches, PE teachers, drill sargents and other men in positions of authority over young men, have been calling those young men who don't measure up "girls" and "ladies" as a form of insult, a way of saying they're not as good as the others. It ties into two perceptions about the sexes in our culture. The first is that women are inferior to men in athletics and certain other endeavors of a physical nature. This is on average, true; the typical adolescent and adult male has physical advantages over the typical female in sports, and the top males outperform the top females in nearly all types of athletic competition (with the notable exception of ultra long distance swimming, where women dominate).

Boys who cry or show too much soft emotion after a certain age are also belittled by referring to them in a feminine way. Sometimes, it's overt, as in calling a boy a little girl. Mostly though, it comes in a slightly more subtle way. What do we call a boy who cries easily when hurt? A "sissy", which is a variant form of the word "sister". Sometimes a girl's name is used overtly, as in calling a boy a "Nancy". In other words, an inadequate boy is the same as a girl. Again, there is some basis in reality for this assertion. Girls are more free to cry or express joy in public than are boys, so labeling a boy in this way is, at least on a denotative level, somewhat accurate.

Putting pink jersies on the lazy players, the slackers, is a not too subtle variant form of calling an inadequate boy a girl, and by doing this, they're implying that girls are lazy. That's the only part of this that I find offensive. The idea that anything pink automatically is a reference to pink ribbons and thus, breast cancer is reaching a bit far. It would make as much sense to say that the pink represented a pink triangle, ie, none. The pink jersies clearly mean "female" in this case, which is mildly offensive, but, I think, harmless.

not really familiar. But I think that you're referring to the 'tie a yellow ribbon' campaign that started with the Iran hostage crisis in the US. so now it kinda make sense.

How do you know the coaches aren't feeding the boys compliments by labelling them members of hte opposite sex, hm? Perhaps all the inequality is just in your head?

Context. The players wearing the pink tops (symbolically calling them girls) were wearing them as punishment for being lazy.

well.... it could be a compliment, after all these "lazy" boys may have learned the old rule that hard work is rewarding after years of effort, but laziness pays off dividends immediately.

So they could be receiving compliments from the coach for learning one of life's lessons, and therefore the inequality IS all in our heads (as per hulk).
