Explore your world
A friend of mine recently told me about the following site. It requires that you download and install some software (timed trial) which does have some hardware requirements; i.e. you must have a decent video card. Anyway, it is absolutely fascinating to see how advanced and available, satellite imagery has become. Just type in an address (USA street level maps only), and the program will literally "zoom" you to the location, in 3D if you choose. Exploring the crater in Mt. St. Helens was pretty cool. Have fun.

Yeah, I saw my car in the driveway as well. What's really amazing is some of the photography is in very high rez, such as Mt. St. Helens, the Grand Canyon, Niagra Falls. You can literally walk up the side of a mountain when using the 3D view. I've seen some of the other terra type software packages but I'm quite impressed with this one.

it is so sick that there are no loading times when you have a high speed connection, its like this big dynamic map.
when you try using it out check out the search feature, which lets you pin point certain locations

The timing on this thread is so coincidental. As some of the previous posters have pointed out, you can use Google to see the same thing without paying a fee. You ask how? Google "just" bought the Keyhole technology lately.
Here's a link via Yahoo to an article about this that appeared this morning (4/5). http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmp...ap/google_maps It's a fascinating world that we're living in these days!

The only thingI noticed is that some of the sections are a bit old. For instance I zoomed into my office and there is a giant field where the company put a giant parking lot...two years ago or more.
Other than that I thought it was great fun. My car wasn't in the driveway so I looked around town trying to figure out where I was. *I take that back* I had one office building top confused with another.
