Worst "Found in food" experience

Just because the topic didn't quite make me vomit I thought maybe all of you might have some good stories to tell about finding things in food!

http://www.tfproject.org/tfp/showthr...1725604&posted

My personal worst was more dangerous than nasty really. A newer mexican food place that specialized in very large burritos had only been open about six weeks and they were running their grand opening special, a free drink or something similar, so my coworkers and I were eating there regularly. One day just as my friend and I walked in there was a very large crack as one of the panes of glass (about 36x18) seperating the food prep area from the dining area quite literally exploded.

I wasn't overly concerned and actually asked the manager if I needed to worry about any of the shards (it was safety glass, so it did that really cool car-window splintering into tiny little pieces thing) getting into my food. He assured me that all of the food that had been on the line when it had happened had been thrown away immediately, so I ordered my burrito and headed back to the office to eat.

Sure enough, about half way through I damn near chipped a tooth on a hunk of glass right in the middle of the burrito! I called up the manager, who took my name, and offered 2 free meals to replace the food that my friend and I had ordered, though sadly I've never been back to claim them.

And for those of you wondering, yes I finished the rest of the burrito anyway, and didn't find anymore glass in it

Hagen Daaz from Penn Station in NYC small shard of glass in the ice cream. No damage to the freezer no one could figure it out.

When getting ice cream at another place in Penn Station, the server used their thumb to help roll the ice cream into a ball, and then also used it to push the ball onto the cone. All after handing someone change for a $20.

A couple of times I've found hair, then they replaced my meal, but lost my appetite after that.

The worst one is, we were having a pot luck at work, and someone made a pasta salad. We all dished some up, and started eating, then one of my co-workers found a bandade, that obviously had been on a finger. The lady that made it said surprisingly, "oh that's were that went". I think we all stopped eating the pasta at that point. She was embarrassed, but didn't say anything else about it, and she continued to eat the pasta.

Just remembered one.. Some ice cream stand in the hills of Massachussets somewhere... ordered an ice creamcone with rainbow jimmies.. Took a bite of the icecream and spit it out pretty quicky when I saw that there was at least one dead fly in the jimmies.

(never again will I have sprinkles..)

I can out my own self as well... I am not home much... so I will buy groceries and it will stay in the cupboard for a while... Had some friends over for dinner one night, and I grabbed a package of rice out of the cupboard, and put it into a pan... there were all sorts of really gross meal worms in it... grooosssq

I work at Starbucks, and not only do we sell beverages, but pastries made by a separate bakery.

So far during my short career at Starbucks, I have had two customers complain about their pastries: One of the scones actually had a SCREW in it (which a little child had bitten into), and then there was a muffin that a customer had bitten into and found a big fly. Sick.

Note: These pastries are not made by Starbucks, and we take pride in how sanitary our work station and beverages are.

Oh, another thing: One time when nwlinkvxd, my dad, and I were eating out at an Italian restaurant, we spotted a cockroach crawling on the back of the booth seat. It wasn't in our food, but jeez, when cockroaches are out in the open in the light, you have to wonder how many more are hiding!

Eating at a small restaurant some years back with my grandparents I was munching on a nice salad and went to pierce what looked like a delicious crouton. Well, the tasty looking crouton didn't make it far until my grandpa snatched the fork out of my hands and examined the morsel on the end...after closer examination we got up and walked out.

Needless to say we got our meal free, and on top of that I (thankfully) didn't eat a fully cooked and seasoned dead moth.

I was in a swanky restuarant in Sydney Australia having dinner with a colleague, a native Aussie. My salad was given to me, and, like I tend to do, I was playing wiht my food a little bit, and was pushing the lettuce leaves around the plate. I moved a lettuce leaf, and saw a very large slug moving slowly across the plate. I swear the lettuce leaf had a bite taken out of it.

My colleague called the waiter over, and said, excuse me, she didn't order the escargot, the waiter swiftly removed the slug from my plate, never took the plate, and said, well, love, at leas you know the salad is fresh.

Did I mention this was a fancy restaurant? We left and went for drinks.

A slug?? I would have been raising such hell.....

Let's see I have:
Bitten into an eggroll from the machines at work and crunched down on a long metal rod.
Gotten halfway thru a donut from the entenmann's box and pulled a long blonde hair out of my mouth.
Bought one of those boxed complete meals and, upon opening the biscuit mix, found it crawling with pillbugs.
Found a dead fly in my soda from Wendy's.

This thread needs a warning label: do not eat while reading!

IF YOU LIKE BANANAS, DON'T READ THIS...

I was once eating a banana once (when I was 3 or 4) and bit right into a nice big juicy banana spider. I did some research and didn't find anything about them actually making homes IN bananas, but these bananas had been imported from South America. Maybe just a very ironic way of smuggling itself into Canada? lol

http://davidmichaelkennedy.com/blog/...a%20spider.jpg

Either way, it wasn't pretty and I had to go to the hospital and get a bunch of shots for the venom.

Regardless to say, I don't like bananas anymore.

EDIT: I decided to just link the image. For those that like bananas, didn't want to scar you.

Well, I used to eat KFC once every so often, my mom would grab a big bucket and some sides on the way home, and my brothers and I would have that for dinner. Then one night, I took out what I thought to be a chicken breast, and went ahead taking all the skin off, just because that's what I do. Well, in the process of doing this, I uncover and odd looking surface. Upon further examination, it appears to be a brain. And wouldn't you know it, there was still a spinal cord connected to it. How this happened, I have no idea, but I stopped eating right there, kept myself from throwing up, and dumped my plate in the garbage. My family saw it, it didn't seem to bother them, and they kept on eating. I vowed never to eat KFC again after that.

Then about a year later, there was absolutely no food in the house, and my mom had gotten KFC once again. I figured, "What the hell, it'll never happen again." I was wrong. Same thing, same reaction from myself and family. If only I had been a little smarter then, I coulda saved it and sued for emotional distress and made millions... or at least got some publicity

i was a waiter for a few years in college. the worst things my customers ever found in the food:

broken glass from grolsch bottles we used for salad dressing
piece of metal wire from the oven
moldy cherry tomato in the salad

funny synchronicity - the people that found the glass were my wife's aunt and uncle. we were just dating at the time, and i had not met them yet. first time i did met them with her they kept wondering where they recognized me from, and when they finally remembered we all had a good laugh over it.

I also found what seemed to be a long curly pube, or arm hair, soooo gross. I stopped eating and felt sick.

KFC doesn't butcher their own chickens in-store and even so, how'd a brain slip out of a severed head?...it was probably just some ball of chicken meat-but thanks for verifying my dislike of KFC!

A fly in my coffee (Starbucks). As I was downing the last sip I felt something solid coming through the little hole. I thought it was just coffee grinds so I pulled it out from between my lips and of course looked at it. Ugh, dead fly. A roach in my rice at a Chinese restaurant. At least they comped the food. Also a roach in my soda at a favorite lunch spot. I thought that one was really odd.

That's it for now, I need to go puke now that I've thought of that coffee incident again.

Thats exactly what I thought, but it was clear that several vertebrae were attached. I inspected it pretty closely, because I thought to myself that it couldn't be real, I couldn't see how it could possible happen. It was somehow jammed in with the chicken breast, quite disgusting honestly.

EWWWWWWWWWWW @ this thread.

Now, on to my disgusting stories.

I found what appeared to be a pube hair in some frozen vegetables once. Gross.

I used to work at a "gourmet" popcorn store, which was about as gourmet as McDonalds. We kept our popcorn in huge bags, like a large lawn and leaf bag. I was getting some caramel corn one day and found a bloody bandaid from my idiot bosses finger....I guess he didnt notice he lost it. I'm glad I'm the one that found it because I doubt any of the other employees would have cared...they'd have probably taken out the bandaid and still served that popcorn. I threw the entire bag in the dumpster.

^^^ Now that is just wrong!

Worst thing for me is a rubber band (wide kind) that was in a ceasar salad. I suspect it was on the lettuce or somehow part of the packing for the produce. No harm no foul. One other time I almost took a sip from a glass of milk that had LIP STICK on it. It was definitely not my shade so I sent that back.

Hairs just don't bother me anymore..

My mom was making an oriental dish when I was younger, used ramen-like noodles. I was happily chewing away when I noticed something funny hidden by a green bean or two.. A big, black beetle. I'm sure it came from those noodles.

I worked in a KFC too when younger, and never noticed these brains you're speaking of, although it's probable, i suppose. The breast cuts could just not quite cut through the spinal cord where they need to cut..

Wow. Some of you guys have some really gross stories.

I found a fingernail in a taco once at Taco Bell. I took a bite, decided to add a little hot sauce and opened it up. Low and behold there was a rather large, infected looking fingernail waiting for me.

I took it up to the front and talked to the manager, who promptly found the suspect (he wasn't wearing the little, clear gloves). The manager apologized profusely, gave me my money back and sent me on my way with a veritable treasure trove of coupons.

I now make it a point to inspect all food I haven't prepared myself.

I have never seen a clean starbucks. I know many a person who works there and they always say its a breeding ground for death. I think Starbucks over charges, but theyre super unsanitary.

I work in the kitchen and I am OCD about cleanliness... and I ALWAYS check my food and if I find anything wrong.. I send it back. The worst thing I ever found was a HUGE palmetto bug(flying roach) in my soup from some hole in the wall place on my way to Savannah, GA. Ive found various hairs, glass, chunks of spices, rocks, fingers, a piece of someones clothes, matches, some plastic thing, wood, dirt, Ive had my food taste like bleach, windex, grease cutter, comet, soap, and oven cleaner.

nothing surprises me anymore. I carry a thermometer and inspect all my food before eating. Nobody likes eating with me.

I'd honestly rather have an insect in my food than a hair...the thought of hair in my food makes me really sick, and prevents me from eating that specific meal at all, let alone another one in the same time frame. I've had hair in salads and soup before...disgusting.

A while ago I went to McDonalds and got a ice cream in a cup...and when I put the first spoon full in my mouth, there was a large chunk of tissue inside, luckily I didn't throw up all over the place. The sad thing is, when I told one of the employees for another one, he said that the tissue I put in my mouth was the only one and there are no more inside, so he didn't give me new one. He said it was clean; it just happened to get in there somehow...forgot what he said, but whatever, gross nonetheless, clean or not.
