Er...yeah, I see what you mean. I think I want a Pocky too!
I can't turn the volume up because I'm at work and it's hard to read the writing, but it says someting about doing "waku waku" and a decoration of some kind. Sorry I can't be more helpful... |

Hot damn. I always want pocky, but now I just want it more.
I've also taken 3 separate "What kind of Pocky are you?" tests. They always tell me I'm Milk Pocky. Now if only I could get that kind here. |

This seems to be the perfect ad campaign. We have no idea what they are selling, but yet -- for some odd reason.. we want it

Can someone help me find where I can buy the damn green tea mousse pocky online? Hrumph. (Seems to be pretty rare.) Edit: Crisis averted, I found asianfoodgrocer.com with a little more googling. Damn them.

They're speaking a mixture of languages ( I can catch English, Japanese Kansai dialect, I think French and I think Portuguese)
What's written as subtitles looks rather simple, except that the contrast is quite poor and I can't read some of the characters. Here is what I can read: 1st line: Girls become nervous/tremble 2nd line: Decoration (the Pocky name) tastes especially like cake 3rd line: It tastes very good. That's how it tastes. 4th line: Pocky Decore, Pocky Decore 5th line: Let me tell you, it tastes like strawberry *** 6th line: Decoration tastes especially like cake 7th line: It tastes very good. It tastes very good. 8th line: Pocky Decore, Pocky Decore...... I don't know French or Portuguese so I can't say how accurate the subtitles are for those parts. The Kansai dialect seems to match pretty well, but interestingly, the English part ("Candy is especially great") is subtitled in line 5. |

My Japanese colleague says that they are not singing in Japenese. The subtitles (which are hard to read) translates something like:
Pocky are very exciting, They taste like cake. Decorated Pocky, Decorated Pocky. The text above the message says that they are singing about Pocky in French! She also says that these two girls are famous stand-up comedians in Japan! What a culture, huh?

Wow, I need a cold shower. And some Pocky.
I love that it's in French. This reminds me of the Japanese girl surf band in Kill Bill (I think they're called the 5, 6, 7, 8's). I didn't know they were singing in English until I turned on the subtitles to see if I could learn any Japanese words... in retrospect, a fruitless endeavor but hilarious nevertheless.

Green Tea pocky. I didn't know they had flavors other than chocolate, but I guess I'm not really surprised.

I still don't really understand what Pocky is, but anyway...
I happened to see this linked at Boing Boing: Sex sells Pocky snax. The text of that mentions a translation over at Dan’s Horrendous Waste of Bandwidth » Further Japanese Pocky Comercials: “Can you see that I am serious?”. So, I figured, let's see if they did a better job that the TFPers. And... Quote:

I'm plain old normal Chocolate Pocky. Some of the grocery stores around here carry something called Men's Pocky. Aside from it coming in a green box, I can't tell the difference between it and regular Chocolate. Maybe Men's Pocky has extra testosterone in it?
Edit - Asianfoodgrocer.com says Men's Pocky is for the dark chocolate lover, but the chocolate isn't any darker than the other Pocky... which I guess is only for ladies. Last edited by rockzilla; 04-01-2005 at 05:44 AM.. |
