On my reportcard for my Writer's Craft class I had one comment:
"Record your songs." That made me happy.

Teachers typically wondered whether I had actually written my stuff myself. They'd scour for evidence of plagiarizing and when they were satisfied I'd written it myself, they'd sometimes say something about the dictionary...

In Grade 13, many years ago, I wrote what I thought was a good essay for my French class. After handing them out my teacher asked me to step out into the hall for a chat.

He told me that he was immensely dissapointed in my work and said, what he would like to do is throw it in the trash (a trash can was conveniently close at hand). He couldn't believe, "That someone as smart as I and with as much potential would hand in something like this...".

I was greatly taken aback by this as I thought I'd written a fine essay. I met with him later to learn what he was looking for and he taught me what was expected...

The next paper I wrote for him was a comparison of Epic Poetry and Le Petit Prince. I recieved an A- on that paper (mostly due to poor grammar - it was in French after all).

I should mention that this teacher was one of the men in my life that made a difference. He was largely successful in preparing me for University and my success there... (and not just in essay writing... just life in general).

You just don't get many teachers like that in you life.

Not an essay, but I do have some great "comments" from one of my instructors in college.

We had a programming class (Fortran to date myself). The instructor would hand out an assignment sheet describing the program you had to write. You were then to do the program, turn in the hardcopy of the code, the flowchart (there's an oldie) and the assignment sheet was to be the cover sheet of what you handed in.

This class was REALLY boring so my buddy & I would draw dumb cartoons & captions & pass them back & forth (we were occasionally under the influence of something or other in class) to pass the time. One day, I made a little comment about one of the weirdos in the class getting a blowjob from the instructor. I filed the paper away & forgot about it.

About a week later I turn in my assignment. The next day the instructor tells me I forgot the assignment sheet & would need to turn it in again with my program. So, I shuffle through my backpack & find the assignment sheet, staple it to the rest of the stuff & forget about it.

The next day in class, I get my assignment back with the following:

Assignment: 85
Turned in wrong: -10
Deduction for artwork: -10
Score: 65

I couldn't figure out what the artwork meant until I flipped over the assignment sheet & realized it was my nice drawing of one of the students getting a hummer from the instructor. I was absolutely panic striken!

c172g, that cracked me up!

My high school social studies teacher gave me a "If you studied half as well as you wrote, you would have gotten honours."

That was par for the course at the time. Studying isn't my forte.

Pretty good one I just got back today:

I wrote an examination of a poem (that was supposed to be 300 words+) in 15 minutes before I had to leave for school. Later in the day, I handwrote in some extra comments at the end. I got back my assignment today, and I got "Well done! 50/50!"

Wow, and in 15 minutes.

By Bio teacher is a total hippie/all-around odd-ball
I had to write a paper on a subject related to any form of science
Out of a joke I decided to write about manufactured drugs (namely LSD)

I actually did a good paper on it, and explained everything about the drug and wrote every possible fact I could find on it.

I ended up getting an A on the assignment, but the weirdest thing was that at the bottom of the front page, she had drawn a retarded looking bunny in red marker and wrote "Silly Indian, Trix are for kid "

considering my family is from India, I thought this was hilarious, absolutely dumb but intuitive all at the same time.

My comment was much less creative, "crazy hippie lady!!!!"
