A charter for my new group.
So, I've an idea for an organization. Let it be known as the "International Association for the Conservation of Apostrophes." Let it educate the public about the proper use of the punctuation mark apostrophe, because I swear I'll end up killing myself if I see too many more of them where they shouldn't be. It started with those little wooden things that people put on their house that read something like "The Smith's." Dammit, unless you are "The Smith," then the house is that of the Smith family, spelled "Smiths'." Now it's everywhere it shouldn't be. Here are some examples I've seen recently:
(On a concession stand sign) Chip's: .50 (On a flyer) The winning floor's will win a party. (In an instant message) I have the shit's. I am actually curious to see if you all have been taught the correct use of the apostrophe, and if so, does it bother you to see such misuse??? |
I don't understand exactly what the problem's i's. Everyone's got problem's and learning to use apostrophe's correct'ly is s'orta at the bottum of everyone's list's of thing's and problem's to worry about. :D
On a more serious note, I feel your pain!! |
This irritates me too. I deal with it every day at work with a program that was written by our office people. I don't think anyone else even realizes that it's a problem. I think people rely too much on computer programs to pick up grammatical problems nowadays. Count me in as a member!!

Hell yeah I'm in.
I'm also a part of the Grammar Gestapo. |
It bugs me to be sure... Another abuse of the apostrophe... I was born in the 60's... It's the 60s... There is nothing posessive about the decade in that sentance.
Its or It's... Only use when it is a contraction for it is... Pronouns can't be posessive. It bugs me but I don't usually say anything... I just grind my teeth down a little more each time... |

"Where you at?" - not a single verb there folks and the prep at the end of the sentence leaves you dangling! :D Arrrrgh... |
I hate being left dangling!! RARRR!
lol :p |

I'm in....btw, I was always taught that it's not the 60s, or the 60's but actually the '60s. :p |
I'm not really much of a grammar Nazi, but their are a few things that bug me. For instance I see two many people who can't use the correct spelling of words in they're sentences. It is almost as if there to lazy to give too thoughts to what they are writing.

Me two... me two...
|
Two words that really tick me off are irregardless and conversate.
Irregardless is not a proper word! Some illiterate shithead said it and now everyone thinks it's correct. The proper word is "regardless." When people use that word and think it is correct, it makes me want to strangle them. Same with "conversate." You don't conversate, you converse. You *have* a conversation, it's not a fucking verb. The worst part is when people know that it is wrong, but still say it to be cool because they heard it on tv. |

Add spelling to the group and I'm in. |
I will except you're offer, two many times I see apostrophe's wear they should not be. Wear are these people have learned to right so bad.
Irregardless, look at this following quote. 'Chip's chips were a saltly kind of chip.' You should bee happy about wear all the apostrophe's are at. |

This bugs me, but I'm willing to be quietly smug about it. ;)
The thing that I rant and scream about is quotation marks used for emphasis. Tomatoes "On Sale" 3 for $1.00 Who are we quoting here? The tomato grower? The salesman? I want attribution on that quotation, dammit! |
