Valentine's Day movie....Am I an idiot?

Mods grant me leniancy. I wasn't sure if this should go in sexuality(as it's not about sex really) or Entertainment(but it's not really an Entertainment thread)

Ok I ran this past my sister and she looked at me like I had grown a tail out of my forehead..

I want to take my girl to the movies tomorrow and basically do a prep St.V day date. My girlfriend enjoys the occasional horror flick and I don't mind the fact that she's basically in my lap by the end of the movie. This typically would be a nobrainer BUT since it's supposed to be a "romantic" time of the year I was thinking..."Well wouldn't a date movie be more appropriate?"

So I asked the first female I could think of,my sister, what she thought and she recoiled in horror that I would even consider taking my girlfriend to a horror flick on St. Valentine's day weekend.

So...what do you think?
Go see Hitch and do the typical date movie on V-day thing that she might not really enjoy....OR Go see Boogeman that I know she'll love?

BoogeyMan.

If she like horror than give her what she wants. Makes sense to me.

Screw what's appropriate... gotta do what you like to do.

If you both enjoy horror movies, that'd be way more enjoyable and more memorable than some sort of soppy chick flick.

I think it'd be kinda cute, and more than a little corny to tell your girlfriend that you are going to the horror movie because you love the fact that she ends up in your lap by the end of the movie, and that it's the perfect excuse for you to get close to her.

You know your g/f better than anyone. If she'd puke at the movie any other time of the year, she'd puke now. StV day is about expressing your love to one-another. Do something you know she'd like.

BoogeyMan definitely.

She is your "Valentine", make it about her, not what standard fare says is correct.

I have to agree with the above posters. If you know horror is what she loves, then see that. After all, isn't Valentines Day about love, not what society says is appropriate?

Well see that's part of the problem that I've run into.
She wouldn't HATE to see a date movie but I think she would normally prefer seeing a horror flick. But in the past with other women they've made the claim of being unconventional when it comes to the Valentine's day thing(i.e. didn't want the typical flowers and candy) I didn't do it and I got the silent raking over the coals because I didn't do what was "expected". Eh...
But thanks for the advice I think I'll just go with the horror flick and if she goes batty on me because of it I still have Monday.

Even though a horror flick isn't what you think of when it comes to V-day movies, a girl appreciates the fact that her man knows her. A typical love movie would be great for a first date because you don't know the girl, you know? Personally, there is nothing more attractive to me than a man who knows what I like. :)

Then again, you could just be up front ... and tell her your plan to see the horror movie. Communication... it's always a good thing. :P

Good luck!

It doesn't matter what type of movie you see with her, as long as you are with her. If she wants to see a horror, then a horror it is!

Boogeyman! Just be sure to go to a nice romantic dinner too :)

Refuse to conform. I demand it.

Why embrace the confines of society telling you that you need to celebrate V-day in a particular way? :)

Do what you feel . . . if you feel that you and your girl would like to see a horror flick . . . Do what you feel would be the most interesting. I personally think that is fine :D

And for those who feel they need to see a "date" movie and then get bored while watching it . . . it's their own fault. ;)

Buy a video camera and make your own movie ;) Just tell us all about it but don't plug it up on these boards lest ye regret it when you run for president...

Oh...no. That's one thing that I'll never do for exactly those reasons(well kind of). Never can tell when something incriminating might pop up at the worst time.

But everything was a go and she liked the movie. Even got the old "I'm scared so I'll bury my face into my date's chest." action.
Hurray for stupid horror flicks!
