Hello. I keep having dreams that I wish came true. No not these "unrealistic" dreams where I'm flying all around and stuff. They seems so real and I even question and convince myself that they are real when I'm in the dream.

Do dreams mean anything? Like I dunno...what are they there for? Are we supposed to pay any attention to them?

I had this dream just now that I met this beautiful girl and her father was a king (that'd make her a princess right?) and we really liked each other and we wanted to get married but her father didn't agree and she left a necklace and braclet (instead of the traditional ring) for me to give to her. These things had jewels and stuff on them so I wouldn't have been able to pay for it. And I gave it to her and her father was like congrats sorta and went back to wherever he went in my dream and then I woke up.

See. Dreams that could happen realistically but only in a different lifetime. Not this flying around stuff. And they seem so realistic and stuff. Except for this dragon one I had a few weeks ago which scared the crap outta me. And I LOVE dragons. Wow. I woke up in a sweat from that one. I don't get scary dreams. Maybe once or twice a year. Most dreams I forget immediatelly after waking up or they start fading rapidly in my mind.

So what do they mean? What are they there for? What do we do with them? Been bugging me since I'd rather live the life of a lot of these dream I'm having instead of the life I'm living right now. Not that it's a BAD life or anything. Just the life in my dreams looks/feels better than what I'm living right now. Like the good life of someone before a s/he wins the lottery and then after. Nothing wrong with it before but s/he'd rather stick with the life after the winnings.

Weird stuff huh?

sorry, couldnt resist... personally I agree though, while they may have valid pyschological interpretations, I dont think dreams signify anything.

I always have heard dreams are conglamarations(not spelled right, I know) of things we thought about or happened during the day. Even little things you barely noticed during the day. Not sure of the whole science behind it, but that is what I have heard.

I dunno bout that. I either look at lots of pr0n or play games on my computer at night before I go to sleep. Rarely do I get in bed with a hot pr0n chick

or re-live a video game (which I'm glad I don't: AVP2, HL2, Doom 3, etc...

I remember hearing a long time ago that if you die in your dream, You actually die.

Now, I don't think this can be proven or not. I always have dreams that i'm falling, then right before i hit rock bottom..i wake up with a jolt.

I had a dream once that I was shot in the chest, And it felt very real, It's really the only dream i remember perfectly. It was by far scarier than any nightmare i had as a kid. I felt the burning in my chest and was sitting in a pool of my own blood, But what i don't get is this..Usually whenever i dream and there's something suddenly happening like a Bang or anything of that sort..it always wakes me up. But in this dream the gun went off and i still was dreaming.

I have never been shot before, But after that dream..I have a pretty good idea of what it feels like.

It's the realest dream i have ever had.

I think dreams do mean a lot... While I have no first hand scientific knowledge to back this up, if you look at certain dream symbols, they do have a lot of meaning to the person. Sure, like horrorscopes, anything can be applied. But I really do think that dreams are your subconscious bringing things to the surface for you to examine.

I, purely for entertainment purposes, did a dream analysis on someone that I didn't know from a hole in the wall, and the symbols that I interpreted from their dream were completely on target for that person, and I apparently knew things about this person, that I couldn't have known. (It was all in the dream symbols)

and according to many dream dictionaries, dreams about death don't mean that you are foretelling your own death, but they usually represent anxious or angry feelings. To dream of your own death is actually positive - it means renewal and letting go of an old stage of life.

Ten years ago I dreamt that I was shot point blank in the face - twice the same night actually - and I'm not dead yet. Although I have a pretty good idea what that was about, and the issue was resolved in a way shortly afterwards. Most of the stuff in my dreams I can trace back to things that has happened recently. I really really really hate the dreams about work though!
In my teens I used to have reoccuring dreams a lot. I've yet to figure out what those were about, especially that bloody bear dream.
And then there are the "waking up" dreams. In the mornings I can dream about getting out of bed, showering, eating breakfast, brushing the teeth, only to wake up and discover I have to do it all over again! Sometimes I do this several times in a row, always perfectly realistic. Anyone else get these stupid dreams?

I did dream analysis on myself and a few others, quite frequently a while back...
It's actually pretty entertaining and easy with some practice and a lot of abstract reasoning. Everything in the dream is just your subconciousness working through things with symbols, for instance, a princess could mean a beautiful girl or it could mean an very good opportunity in your life and a king holding you back may mean an authority holding you back from that opportunity. And the jewels could mean that your subconciousness thinks that offering some of the benefits from the opportunity to the authority holding you back could solve the situation.

It's actually not feasible to do when you don't know the person, because dreams are highly subjective to your feelings and views on life and your daily experiences.
It's cool though, because if you can analyse your own dreams, you can find out some of the reasons for how you react to certain things in the way you do and who you are, deep inside.

I quit it because it was consuming too much of my time though, especially for something so esoteric. And in the end there is very little you can actually DO with the information.

In the dream I was sitting around and relaxing with two girls. Sheila and Ely(pronounced Eli). I knew they were both in love with me and that I had to make a choice. Sheila I was closer to physically, I don't mean sexually. Rather, I felt more comfortable hugging her, cuddling, etc. Ely was more of my match mentally. I had the feeling she and I could talk for hours.

At one point Sheila laid her head on my shoulder. This repulsed me and made me feel trapped, almost smothered. So I chose Ely.

The dream shifted into a new sequence. I was with Ely and she showed me a book of hers. In the book it was revealed that Ely could only make love to a man(or woman for that matter) once in her life. Anyone who tried after that would die. Dream rules apply here I suppose. Thus one had to be prepared to have a purely emotional relationship with her.

Why is this significant? Well, if our seers and savants would be so kind as to try and interpret this I have an interesting idea. The dream itself was easy for me to interpret, coming from my point of view. However, I'm curious to see if anyone else, and I realize this is a really hazy thing to do, sees anything in it.

If anyone does, and is interested, I'll come back and post why I found it significant.

I am of the opinion that dreams don't really mean anything, but that's only because I have never heard anything to prove it otherwise.

Anyways, I had an extremely scary dream last night. I was with my mom and sister, and we were on a small jet. We were in the clouds, and all the flight instruments indicated straight and level flight (I wasn't the pilot, but I had all the flight controls and instruments in front of me). Suddenly we broke out of the clouds and the pilot yelled that the controls weren't responding, and the aircraft began a roll to the right. I pulled on the stick as hard as I could, but the jet wouldn't respond. We began to turn inverted and the ground filled the windscreen and I realized that we were going to crash. I was really afraid during my dream and I thought about my mom and sister and how I couldn't save them and that we were going to die.

Luckily we did a complete roll and hit the ground just as we levelled out. The tail hit the ground first, and the aircraft nose was pointing towards the sky at about a 45 degree angle. At that point I closed my eyes and felt the aircraft sliding and then flipping, and then hitting the side of a building. I was flung out of the jet and was laying on my stomach when I opened my eyes. I was inside the buillding that we had hit and so was my mom and sister. We were all unhurt, but no one else on the jet survived..

It felt extremely real and I felt genuine fear during my dream.. It was one of the most intense dreams I've ever had.

Taking psychology this semester and just having read the chapter on dreams, I might be able to shed a little light on this. Just be forewarned this is just my opinion,

Dreams are of course, the indication that you are currently in stage 5 of the standard sleep stage scale. Which of course, is REM sleep. Sigmund Freud believed that the reason that we all dream is because of wish fulfillment. We want something in our lives. So that dream you had about meeting that girl and wanting to marry her is a representation of some woman in real life. Is there someone who you're attracted to but haven't told her? Don't know how to tell her? This is just your subconscious telling you your wants. So to answer your question, yes, our dreams do mean something, in one form or another. You just have to look for the hidden meaning in your dreams. In your case, your desire to get with the object of your affection.

IC3, I had a dream similar to yours once. I dreamt that I was shot in the back multiple times once. That's the most realistic dream I've ever had to date. I woke up with multiple pains in my back like bullets were still lodged in my back. I was amazed at how my back muscles twitched thinking a bullet was separating them.

I wish that dreams did not have any significance but I have had far too many dreams that came true or have shown me what terrible and great feelings I can have. Personally, I think a dream that is too real to be a dream, like when you lucidly dream, your mind is trying to convey to you a message that your conscious mind will not accept. It is your unconscious mind that has pieced together all the little fragments of reality that you were too consciously busy to acknowledge. Sometimes these messages are ambiguous (like and good horoscope, sorry Maleficent) or very clear. I had a nightmare of a man that told me a message after a nightmare was over. He told me "Be aware of times in your life that seem to dissappear. These momentary lapses will give you better insight to what is truly happening to the world around you." That phrase simply stays with me. And what is worse is what happened after ward... Yes this was in Tilted Paranoia but I don't want to copy chunks of it out into this post.

Oh, I disagree. I make a point of dreaming during the day, just staring up at the sky and emptying my head.

Personally, I think dreams are the result of your brain needing to barf out extremely basic interpretations of feelings, desires, and events. They're complex things in themselves, but the parts are just very simple renderings (like a tapestry). Thus said, dreams are extremely important; not so much for other people to decipher for you, but for you to understand yourself.

Somewhat on-topic, lucid dreams rock. I've had a couple, most recently last night.

We were driving in a car, my dad and some siblings (can't remember which, I have many). All of a sudden, I'm like 'Hey, I'm dreaming!' Concious thought kicks in, I make the car fly and have a ball for a minute or so before waking. I was careful to bring myself out of it, I've had sleep paralysis before. It's nice and relaxing until I think I see something out of the corner of my eye, then it gets freaky.

I think that dreams don't necessarily mean anything, but can.

Read an article somewhere that said that all night your optical nerves send signals to the brain -- white noise -- and that the sleeping brain can interpret these as images, and build an image or sequence of images around those images from recent memories or, alternatively, from things that you feel in your subconscious.

Sometimes your subconscious knows or understands things that you don't know, and dreams are a way of telling you about it. Sometimes they're not; my wife dreams copiously and remembers them all. Sometimes she'll relate some bizarre dream, and I'll recognize elements of movies we saw the previous night, things we saw on television -- but nothing really meaningful.

But there are many examples of dreams in which the dream is telling the dreamer something he or she already knows, but not consciously. Here are some examples or dreams that influenced scientific and technological discoveries:

Yeah ive heard the same thing..
I have also had afew of those "falling" dreams but waking up before you hit the ground. And it gave me that "gut drop" feeling.. like when you're on a rollercoaster.

I had three dreams regarding my grades came true last year. But that might have been because I know myself and my abilities too well and subconsiously...

Don't you hate that period when you know you're awake, but you're still living in the dream and you try to stay, but eventually you have to wake up?

I have to agree with you there, I'm not into Freudian or neo-psychic interpretations of dreams. If I have a dream about something, it's just because I had a relevant thought or experience during the day. In your case, UnderCover_Man, I hope it's a premonition and you get the princess!

dreams dont mean anything. i had to do a project for a class a while ago on dremas and through research i found out that when you sleep sometimes your brain is still working and it perceives sensory information such as the wind blowing or something and displays it as a dream.

One time, I was pissing in my sleep, and when I was pissing, I was dreaming of pissing into a pisser. Oh my god I successfully said "piss" four times in one sentence.

It also pisses me off when something I really want to happen in real life happens in my dream and I think its real then I wake up because I have to take pisses in the middle of the night.

Sigmund Freud believed that the reason that we all dream is because of wish fulfillment. We want something in our lives. So that dream you had about meeting that girl and wanting to marry her is a representation of some woman in real life. Is there someone who you're attracted to but haven't told her? Don't know how to tell her? This is just your subconscious telling you your wants. So to answer your question, yes, our dreams do mean something, in one form or another. You just have to look for the hidden meaning in your dreams. In your case, your desire to get with the object of your affection. IC3, I had a dream similar to yours once. I dreamt that I was shot in the back multiple times once. That's the most realistic dream I've ever had to date. I woke up with multiple pains in my back like bullets were still lodged in my back. I was amazed at how my back muscles twitched thinking a bullet was separating them.

Hain has a plan Location: middle of Whywouldanyonebethere	I wish that dreams did not have any significance but I have had far too many dreams that came true or have shown me what terrible and great feelings I can have. Personally, I think a dream that is too real to be a dream, like when you lucidly dream, your mind is trying to convey to you a message that your conscious mind will not accept. It is your unconscious mind that has pieced together all the little fragments of reality that you were too consciously busy to acknowledge. Sometimes these messages are ambiguous (like and good horoscope, sorry Maleficent) or very clear. I had a nightmare of a man that told me a message after a nightmare was over. He told me "Be aware of times in your life that seem to dissappear. These momentary lapses will give you better insight to what is truly happening to the world around you." That phrase simply stays with me. And what is worse is what happened after ward... hulk C'mon, just blow it. Location: Perth, Australia	Somewhat on-topic, lucid dreams rock. I've had a couple, most recently last night. We were driving in a car, my dad and some siblings (can't remember which, I have many). All of a sudden, I'm like 'Hey, I'm dreaming!' Concious thought kicks in, I make the car fly and have a ball for a minute or so before waking. I was careful to bring myself out of it, I've had sleep paralysis before. AfterBurn Psycho	dreams dont mean anything. i had to do a project for a class a while ago on dremas and through research i found out that when you sleep sometimes your brain is still working and it perceives sensory information such as the wind blowing or something and displays it as a dream. __________________ smoking weed everyday keeps the doctor away

Painted Pleasure Burn	One time, I was pissing in my sleep, and when I was pissing, I was dreaming of pissing into a pisser. Oh my god I successfully said "piss" four times in one sentence. It also pisses me off when something I really want to happen in real life happens in my dream and I think its real then I wake up because I have to take pisses in the middle of the night.
