Hey wannabe ... try to be original, please [a rant]
I can't stand bandwagon humor. People that see someone else is getting the attention, then they take whatever that thing was that got the other person attention and try to modify it slightly then regurgitate it.
I HATE THAT It happens with posting too. You have some really clever or thoughtful post and people decide "hey since blue went over so well I'll start this blue green conversation over here and they'll tell me how bright and good I am just like they told that person". But they never tell you that do they bandwagoners?... its because you're not! Come up with your own stuff, for crying out loud... stop living in other people's limelight. Figure out what makes you you and then milk that, develop it. You have great ideas, you don't have to ride other people's coat tails. Do you want to be remembered as "the guy that was kind of like that other guy, just not quite as good"? I get REALLY embarrassed for people in party/public situations that regurgitate jokes or ride on joke coat tails. You've seen it... the crowd that laughs genuinely at someone's something and then the sad follower wanna be that follows up with the rehash only to get politely giggled at and then all the uncomfortable and annoyed people disperse for "drinks" or to go to the bathroom... really just to get away from wannabe.

I totally agree with you Marco. I have something similar that happens to me at work all the time. I have these great ideas and someone always ends up stealing them before I get the full chance to share with my boss. I have learned well to write my ideas down, then give them directly to my boss instead of asking anyone else what they think.
I feel that we are all individuals here and in life. That being said, we should all have our own ideas and thoughts without having to try to get ourselves glorified by what others say and do. This isn't a popularity contest anyways.. because we are ALL unique and special in our own ways. No one is better than anyone else.

Why be original? It takes too much work, and most people are lazy asses. Why come up with your own material? Why be the person to set an example?
Be a sheep... Come on everyone, let me hear you "baa". That being said... Time for me to go be myself so people can continue to stare at my tits |

Hmmmmm. Be original, what an original idea. Hope it catches on. The original ideas are the ones I enjoy the most.
Especially the humurous ones.

I agree with you up to a point.
Sometimes a thread will trigger a thought that needs to go into a different direction from the original. Rather than clutter one good thread with multiple directions, I prefer to start a new thread. The trick is to make the difference clear. Now, if it is just a juvenile attempt to get attention, don't bother. But if it interests you, go for it. Just another opinion.

the worst offenders are commercials--people who weren't creative or artistic enough to create their own works, stealing something original and beautiful for the sake of selling doritos.

From what I can tell, unfortunately not enough people are sufficiently creative and witty to start their own fire and instead must settle for "riffing" on other people. Most people also don't particularly care about the limelight of others.

Isn't as bad as the Naked Co-Ed fad or the Ain't Skeered fad. I remember when everyone had those friggen' shirts.
And there was a "Johnson" shirt fad too that just made me want to beat someone with a rusty iron skillet.

There are a lot more sheep than shepherds, so this kind of behavior is inevitable. It may even serve some socialization function. We are all guilty of it to some degree at some point, but most of your active TFPers are the type who minimize "me too" type behavior.

You mean like "I'm Rick James bitch!"?
I heard it hundreds, maybe thousands of times before I actually got to see the skit, and it made the skit less funny than it should have been. edit: On that note, I'm thinking of getting a "Mrs. Strombolopolous" t-shirt. Last edited by Suave; 09-30-2004 at 09:22 PM.. |

hmm, sort of reminds me of a flash animation trend that has really pissed me off as of late. y'know the ones where they oh-so-cleverly lure the viewer into concentrating on the screen and getting really close. yeah, concentrate real hard, motherfucker. then BAM. some scary pic or something with some ear piercing scream playing in the background. har dee har har, never gets old. never saw it coming.
okay, i'm through. |
