KMA-628: What? How exactly do you figure? I wasn't attacking anyone. Not you, not Halx, not Tecoyah, not anyone. I was merely saying that I grew up a long time ago and that not liking a site is no reason to not support something you believe in and like. Chill out, you're really reading into something that's not even there.

Quote:
I will repeat, in case I wasn't clear.

I would like to donate and I have donated in the past (not through PayPal).

Not only did I lose a lot of money to PayPal "limiting" my account, any money that I would try and push through PayPal would never get to its intended destonation.

All because my info is similar to someone else's. Am I guilty? Nope. Is there anything I can do about it? Nope. PayPal is not regulated by ANYBODY. They can do whatever they please and there is nothing you can do about it.
Yeah, you were perfectly clear, hence why I didn't type a post in reply to you attacking anything you said, you have your reasons; I was merely pointing out to anyone else that comes along and reads any of "we're not donating tfp because we don't like paypal" that they shouldn't jump on the bandwagon for the wrong reasons. In my experience, I've never had any issues with Paypal, however, that doesn't mean that other people have been so lucky...I'm VERY aware of this.
As an FYI, Paypal has gone through a lot of changes since they're lawsuit and just because they were once not regulated doesn't mean they aren't regulated now. They recently have changed their policies and practices because of a lawsuit. I don't know if you are aware of this or not. Please, don't jump my shit further for this, as I will state this very clearly: I'm not attacking you or calling you a liar.

Quote:
Why you chose this issue as reason to attack people is beyond me. But it does seem to be the way you operate.

Why is this a problem with you?
As I see it, apparently, you like to go on one recent occurance (i.e. the "men are better cops than women" thread) and brand a person for life off of that. You obviously haven't read any of my former posts so therefore you don't know "how I operate". Thanks a lot...shows how diplomatic you are. I will reiterate, I WASN'T attacking anyone.
From your post, I've gotten the feeling that you are looking for a fight. In my opinion, if anyone is attacking anyone, it's you attacking me because I didn't specify anyone's name and I merely pointed out a fact as a means of an adversion so that a whole bunch of "newbies" (as I've seen this happen before on other sites) wouldn't say "yeah, fuck Paypal, sorry can't donate".
Reading your post makes me want to say "Good grief, guy, take a nap, will you?" Do you know how it feels to be that exasperated? I wasn't attacking anyone. Could you bother to ask me to clarify? Or even PM me and tell me to edit my post as it may seem aggressive? Why didn't you do this?
When I bother to type your name on a post and am obviously attacking you, then you can respond with "Why is this a problem with you?". Until then, please, back off.

Next time, try asking the message a person is trying to convey...otherwise, you may unknowingly hurt their feelings...

Amnesia - Its nothing to do with who has and has not grown up. I will admit i have yet to donate but when it comes down to it, i would love to and will in the coming months be able to do so with finally getting a job. I am a poor college student like a lot of people here are, and yes, $5 or $10 does make a difference if whether or not we eat or make rent. When it comes down to it, threatening is only going to piss off (and has) people. Encourage, its the way to go. Proof of justification is helpful to, but Hal's been on top of that.

If youve dontated, why doesnt it say so near your avatar? or is that just admin in need to play catchup? just am curious

Minyn,
In fear that this reply to you will come across as aggressive or attacking, I will do my best to convey my meaning the best and nicest way possible.
Originally, I posted a reply (indirectly, to no one in particular) in reference to a few people on this thread to their statements of not donating due to not liking Paypal. I feel, through experience, that sometimes when one person says they're unable or unwilling to do something that benefits someone or something, others tend to jump on the bandwagon...the end result: the someone or something, that would have been benefitted, suffers. I was merely stating this as a means to deter anyone immature enough to follow this path, however, it seems to have been misconstrued. My original reply I posted was then addressed by KMA-628 (see above) to which he expressed that I was attacking others (I got the impression that he took it personal, to which it was not) as I stated and replied to in the post just above yours.
In reference to your post, I agree with you. Even if it is 50 cents, it's something, right?
Minyn, forgive my confusion, but I'm not sure if you meant those questions to be directed to someone other than myself or to me. If they were addressing me, when did I say I have donated? I never stated that - I said that I would be donating in the near future. Perhaps you read someone else's post and thought it was me? I'm not sure.

I'd be happy to send a small donation. I don't want to get into the Paypal controversy except to say that I'm not willing to use it for this purpose. But if there's instructions on where to send a donation by snail mail, I'll send one.

donations are good, but cost savings are even betta!

Hal - have you thought about looking into a new host? Another forum I know of has a similar size, and probably greater xfer than TFP because of video's, and his previous host was giving him the smackdown. He changed over to http://www.carpathiahost.com , and now pays only about 60 bucks a month for BETTER service! I think almost 500 for hosting is pretty steep, but I don't know what kind of #'s your pushing. anyway, something to think about...

Donate to the TFP . . . and get a kiss from me

seriously people . . . let's pitch in together here.

If you like TFP . . . send some cash halx's way . . . it doesn't have to be allot . . . even if it's only 5-10 bucks . . . if we all give, it will be enough and every little bit helps . . .

as Halx noted in his announcement . . . you can pm him for his address to send a check . . . OR even easier . . . you can just go to paypal https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/websc...gistration-run , (i've used it for years and had no problems, it's quick easy and simple.) and Halx's paypal e-mail is develdevil@gmail.com.

It's fast, easy and simple. please, take the time to do it. This is a great site . . . let's all pitch in.

Sweetpea (and i wasn't kidding about the kiss if you do donate)

I seriously wish I could donate. I know the money would be well spent. Unfortunately, I am a freelance Web developer in the same boat as Halx is in. I literally don't know where my next paycheck is coming from. The summer months always suck business-wise. I'll be getting a fast food job soon to scrape by through the summer. If the board manages to stay afloat until autumn, I may be in a better position to help out at that time.

Halx, I wish you the very best of luck in finding a job. I will contact you immediately on the off chance that I get more work than I can handle or if someone pitches me a job I simply don't have the skills for. Based on the past two summers it doesn't seem likely that will happen, so don't let me get your hopes up.

Well you aren't donating to tfp technically, you are donating to Halx as a person -- whatever the money is used for is not really paypay's concern

I sent some too. I am sorry to say this, but it seems that running the TFP may have one thing in common with being a minister. People (me included) just don't think about sending in donations unless someone reminds us. Constant or regular requests may just be necessary. I will try to do better however.

Opposed to capitalism? WHAT?!?!? Where in the holy fuckin' shit did you pull that out of?

All I could possibly think of is my refusal to put ads on this site. Well, you obviously haven't been around for long enough, because I have tried ads. They didn't work. Here is why: The truth is, the TFP gets very few unique visitors in comparison with the total traffic. All the bandwidth gets racked up by the same users hitting the pages repeatedly. So, in terms of traffic, TFP is not the grand central station you think it is, it is, rather, a large company break room.

In other words, if I put ads up, it'll be a case of the same people viewing he same ads over and over. Now, I'm guessing that if you didn't click on an advertisement once, you won't click on it when it's presented to you again. And again. And again. And again. In fact, all that advertisement will do is take up space. That's all they have done in the past. That's all they will do, if applied to the TFP.

So.. opposed to capitalism? Wow. You have got to be missing some major people skills to think that up. You don't know me, and before I just typed that out, I'm going to assume you probably had no clue about the dynamics of internet traffic and advertisement. Please, stop and think next time you want to undermine someone else, kick them while their down. Yeah... that's the ticket.

The fact is, donations work excellently as a form of sustenance for the site, but only if I advertise for them. The users of the TFP are fuckin' awesome (well, MOST of them) and the only reason why I haven't been getting much in the way of donations is simply because I haven't been actively asking for them. Mathematically, the rate of donation-per-member is magnificently higher than any click-per-impression rate any ad company can dream of even imbellishing. Now, think that if the MINIMUM donation is $5 (nevermind that the AVERAGE donation is a little above $20) and the most you can get per-click is.. ohh.. 3 cents, maybe you'll start to understand why THIS capitalist (meaning ME) stays FAR AWAY from advertising on his humble little site.

Now, before I proceed to shove your hoof even farther down your throat, are you happy you made that statement? Have you proved your infinite wisdom and superiority by sniping at my methods from behind an anonymous screen name? Just sayin'.

The TFP is not a business. It is a hobby. It's a project. As I've found, you cannot even incorporate it into a physical institution as a business plan because the fact of the matter is - discussion is not a commodity. It's a freedom. FREEdom. My intention with the TFP is to provide a place for people to discuss their views and learn from others without interruption from some unwarranted complications (such as an idiot who thinks they know better... or some flashy, annoying banner ad) and all I can say is... we're getting there.

*exhale*
