me neither -- I guess that's a good thing, walking the red carpet is not my idea of a good time, Joan Rivers just wouldn't be kind...

Mel Gibson's gotta be bummin' No major nominations for Passion...

I didn't see a lot of movies last year, but it looks like some interesting choices...

This was a great year for movies, sounds to me like you just saw the crappy ones (I kinda liked Shrek 2).

Same here... no wait, I did see part of Shrek 2 before turning it off. A *cough* friend had *cough* downloaded it. It wasn't even worth watching for free.

I wouldn't mind seeing Sideways. That looks like it might be good.

The rest of the process is just self-congratulatory tripe. I have never seen an awards show and I don't ever care too. Well, maybe the Nobel Prize awards ceremony, but even that is pushing my tolerance.

That isn't surprising given the furor raised by Jewish groups promoting the movie as anti-semitic and given the makeup up of those who run Hollywood.

Man, I've only heard of a handful of those (the "real" nominations, anyway--I don't count effects and art direction) and I'm a big movie buff. Just goes to show the crappy year it was cinema-wise.

i too enjoyed eternal sunshine of the spotless mind. i definitely thought that it had a bit more potential than what was put out, but regardless, great and refreshing idea for a film. the rest of it though, ill readily admit, sounds like crap
(haven't seen any other movie on the list).

And here I thought I was the only one. I guess Ray was the only one that I had REALLY heard of.

I thought Man on Fire was real good, and to not see Denzel nomintated...

Same here. Its been a really shitty year for movies. I heard Ray was pretty good, but I really don't give a fuck about Ray Charles.

The Incredibles and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind were good movies. Spider-Man 2, Before Sunset, Supersize Me and the Passion of the Christ were all good as well. And Sideways is supposed to be excellent.

Yeah, Hollywood has made some crap, but it's not all crap.

I saw three of the movies nominated. They are: Collateral (Supporting Actor) which I saw a bootleg of, The Village (Music), and Troy (Costume Design). The only movie of those three that I remotely enjoyed was Troy. Most of the other movies nominated seem like pretentious boring shit to me.

Sideways was excellent, and I very much enjoyed Closer (Clive Owen and Natalie Portman deserve those acting awards--it was an incredible performance) and and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. Maria Full of Grace was also excellent.

Shrek 2 and The Village. As a film, The Village was pretty poor, I don't remember the score though...

I see 1 rainy-day-with-the-kids movie at a theater each year. Beyond that, it's DVDs. I can't remember the last time I saw an Oscar-nom movie before the awards ceremony.

I would bet money that 75% of the movies I watched this year were produced before 1960. If you have to use sex and/or violence to sell tickets to your movie, you have failed as a film maker.

Where have all the writers gone?!?!
