I am very proud to report...

That I have not seen a single movie nominated for an Oscar this year.
Take that crappy American cinema!!

http://oscar.com/nominees/nominees.html

maleficent 01-25-2005 07:08 AM

me neither -- I guess that's a good thing, walking the red carpet is not my idea of a good time, Joan Rivers just wouldn't be kind...

Mel Gibson's gotta be bummin' No major nominations for Passion...

I didn't see a lot of movies last year, but it looks like some interesting choices...

Crisis 01-25-2005 08:18 AM

Haha there's only 7 movies listed there I haven't seen and most of those come from the foreign language cateogory.

StanT 01-25-2005 08:21 AM

I've seen Harry Potter and Shrek2 on dvd, none of them in the theater. Just a crappy year for movies IMO.

This was a great year for movies, sounds to me like you just saw the crappy ones (I kinda liked Shrek 2).

braisler 01-25-2005 08:30 AM

Same here... no wait, I did see part of Shrek 2 before turning it off. A *cough* friend had *cough* downloaded it. It wasn't even worth watching for free.

I wouldn't mind seeing Sideways. That looks like it might be good.

The rest of the process is just self-congratulatory tripe. I have never seen an awards show and I don't ever care too. Well, maybe the Nobel Prize awards ceremony, but even that is pushing my tolerance.

Carno 01-25-2005 08:41 AM

I have only seen 4 movies on the list...

Skettios 01-25-2005 08:44 AM

Me either... well I haven't seen any of the ones nominated for Best Picture that is... am I living under a rock?

munchen 01-25-2005 08:45 AM

I thought Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind was an incredible movie. I'm very dissapointed it didnt get more nominations.

anleja 01-25-2005 08:47 AM

I bet Michael Moore wishes he didn't pull his movie from the best documentary category to have a chance at overall best movie.

trickyy 01-25-2005 08:54 AM

yeah, he was really dreaming on that one
he can hardly be called a filmmaker...his craft is on par with a middle market news station

That isn't surprising given the furor raised by Jewish groups promoting the movie as anti-semitic and given the makeup up of those who run Hollywood.

ratbastid 01-25-2005 09:18 AM

Man, I've only heard of a handful of those (the "real" nominations, anyway--I don't count effects and art direction) and I'm a big movie buff. Just goes to show the crappy year it was cinema-wise.

projectself 01-25-2005 09:21 AM

i too enjoyed eternal sunshine of the spotless mind. i definitely thought that it had a bit more potential than what was put out, but regardless, great and refreshing idea for a film. the rest of it though, ill readily admit, sounds like crap
(haven't seen any other movie on the list).

And here I thought I was the only one. I guess Ray was the only one that I had REALLY heard of.

I thought Man on Fire was real good, and to not see Denzel nomintated...

Same here. Its been a really shitty year for movies. I heard Ray was pretty good, but I really don't give a fuck about Ray Charles.

01-25-2005 01:43 PM

I'm down with Ray Charles... but Jamie Foxx? Are you kidding? I dont care HOW good people said he did, the guy is as bad as they come in entertainment.
Keep it on the DL Hughley.

Coppertop 01-25-2005 01:50 PM

The Incredibles and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind were good movies. Spider-Man 2, Before Sunset, Supersize Me and the Passion of the Christ were all good as well. And Sideways is supposed to be excellent.

Yeah, Hollywood has made some crap, but it's not all crap.

Grasshopper Green 01-25-2005 02:22 PM

I've seen quite a few of them and enjoyed them all. I think this was actually an awesome year for movies.

ShaniFaye 01-25-2005 03:07 PM

I saw finding neverland and quite enjoyed it....its the only one nominated for best picture I saw.....now for animated..its gotta be shrek 2 that was a great movie

The Magic 01-25-2005 04:18 PM

I've seen Shrek 2 and Collateral. Collateral is a damn cool movie.

Jamie Foxx did good in Collateral, hopefully he wins it.

whocarz 01-26-2005 02:09 PM

I saw three of the movies nominated. They are: Collateral (Supporting Actor) which I saw a bootleg of, The Village (Music), and Troy (Costume Design). The only movie of those three that I remotely enjoyed was Troy. Most of the other movies nominated seem like pretentious boring shit to me.

I agree with you 101%.

sailor 01-27-2005 05:41 AM

Sideways was excellent, and I very much enjoyed Closer (Clive Owen and Natalie Portman deserve those acting awards--it was an incredible performance) and and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. Maria Full of Grace was also excellent.

Powderedmaggot 01-27-2005 11:33 AM

I saw no movies last year. Take that crappy American cinima.

Agreed man. Vin Diesel suXXX.

TheBrit 01-27-2005 11:44 AM

Shrek 2 and The Village. As a film, The Village was pretty poor, I don't remember the score though...

Catmandu 01-27-2005 01:03 PM

I see 1 rainy-day-with-the-kids movie at a theater each year. Beyond that, it's DVDs. I can't remember the last time I saw an Oscar-nom movie before the awards ceremony.

Yakk 01-27-2005 01:27 PM

Finding Neverland (good)
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (good)
The Incredibles (good)
Shrek 2 (almost good)
Troy (meh)
Harry Potter and the Prisonder of Azkaban (meh)
Spider-man 2 (good)
I, Robot (meh)

I'm just a hollywood peon.

Cimarron29414 01-27-2005 01:45 PM

I would bet money that 75% of the movies I watched this year were produced before 1960. If you have to use sex and/or violence to sell tickets to your movie, you have failed as a film maker.

Where have all the writers gone?!?!

streak_56 01-27-2005 07:12 PM

I've seen more of the foreign films than most of the ones nominated.

degrawj 01-28-2005 08:46 AM

Well, I saw Passion of the Christ, which was nominated for best make-up and best score. but that's the only one.
