That is just unbelievable. I still can't wrap my mind around the amount of destruction that tsunami caused. And like gringo and dostoevsky already said, I haven't seen that kind of devastation since I first saw aerial before/after shots of Hiroshima back in middle school.

What is amazing too is that from that second picture you can see that the water hasn't really 'receeded'.
The earthquake was so large and close to Banda Aceh that the ground level is actually lower than it was before. Those dark areas are now under water permanently. At least the people on the other side of the ocean just got waves and then the water went back out.
